Book Improving Exercise Testing Methods and Interpretation in Human Health and Diseases

Download or read book Improving Exercise Testing Methods and Interpretation in Human Health and Diseases written by Mathieu Gruet and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-28 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exercise testing is a versatile tool for health purposes. When used in combination with specific devices and sensors, it can provide valuable diagnostic and prognostic information in a wide range of populations. Exercise testing outcomes are also useful for training prescriptions and defining responses to clinical trials evaluating interventions. Whole-body maximal tests (e.g., cardiopulmonary exercise testing), field tests (e.g., walking tests), and modalities isolating a muscle group (e.g., isokinetic endurance testing) all have their advantages and limits and should be viewed as complementary. Recent advances in wearable technology and artificial intelligence provide unique opportunities to broaden the application of these tests and facilitate their interpretation. In the meantime, the clinimetric properties of some widely used exercise tests are still poorly documented in several clinical populations, which hampers optimal diagnosis and management. Moreover, most exercise tests used in clinical practice are suffering from a lack of ecological validity and there is a need to develop and valid new testing modalities that best mimic daily life functioning. This Research Topic aims to extend our knowledge regarding the validity and clinical utility of various exercise testing modalities and facilitate their interpretation. This topic supports a multimodal approach to exercise testing and welcomes reports investigating either whole-body or local muscle testing. Submission of research combining different exercise modalities and investigating their potential links are particularly encouraged. Inter-disciplinary research with studies integrating concepts, tools, and data from various disciplines like exercise physiology, biomechanics, and psychology are of particular interest for this Research Topic. This topic is not restricted in terms of age, medical conditions, or type of disease but manuscripts must have clear implications for human health.

Book Stochastic Flows and Jump Diffusions

Download or read book Stochastic Flows and Jump Diffusions written by Hiroshi Kunita and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-26 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a modern treatment of (1) stochastic differential equations and (2) diffusion and jump-diffusion processes. The simultaneous treatment of diffusion processes and jump processes in this book is unique: Each chapter starts from continuous processes and then proceeds to processes with jumps. In the first part of the book, it is shown that solutions of stochastic differential equations define stochastic flows of diffeomorphisms. Then, the relation between stochastic flows and heat equations is discussed. The latter part investigates fundamental solutions of these heat equations (heat kernels) through the study of the Malliavin calculus. The author obtains smooth densities for transition functions of various types of diffusions and jump-diffusions and shows that these density functions are fundamental solutions for various types of heat equations and backward heat equations. Thus, in this book fundamental solutions for heat equations and backward heat equations are constructed independently of the theory of partial differential equations.Researchers and graduate student in probability theory will find this book very useful.

Book Hemostasis and Thrombosis Protocols

Download or read book Hemostasis and Thrombosis Protocols written by David J. Perry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laboratory studies in hemostasis have traditionally focused on abn- malities of platelet function or the quantitative and qualitative disorders that affect the proteins involved in blood coagulation. However, over the last 10 years there has been an explosion in our understanding of the molecular bases that underlie many of the inherited and acquired disorders of hemostasis. Many of these disorders are now routinely diagnosed and assessed by methods that involve genotypic analysis. Indeed in the late 1990s the distinction between molecular methods for research and for routine diagnosis is becoming incre- ingly blurred. The techniques and approaches that are used in hemostasis are manifold and published in isolation in a variety of publications. The aim, therefore, of this volume Hemostasis and Thrombosis Protocols is to pull together, into a single volume, the variety of techniques that are frequently used in the field of hemostasis. We have targeted this volume at laboratories who wish to move into the field of molecular hemostasis or who may already have some expe- ence in this area but wish to develop new areas of research and diagnosis. The chapters are wide-ranging and hopefully provide a broad overview of the d- fering applications in which these standard techniques can be used. Though the articles may appear relatively specific, the techniques contained within them are applicable to the study of many different disorders and we hope that they provide a series of ideas and concepts well-suited to problem solving.

Book Migration United Kingdom

Download or read book Migration United Kingdom written by P. Kiers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The law and practice in this work is that at 10th] anuary 1978. To complete this work in Autumn 1977, as originally intended, was impossible. Principally, this has been due to the changes in the Finance Act 1977, the various mini budgets and the exchange control changes, many of which are relevant to the subject matter of this work. Gratitude is expressed to the publishers for their patience. The Revenue has just revised its useful practice notes, IR 25 1977, dealing with the taxation of foreign earnings. The new IR 25 1977 modifies only slightly the IR 25 in Appen dix4. It will be appreciated that in this work it is impossible to provide for exhaustive treatment of all the taxes. Complexity in some places has been set aside for simplicity and clarity. Any such selectivity consisting of various emphases and omissions rests solely on fallible judgment. It is hoped that some light nevertheless is cast on the basic facets relevant to migrants. Too often these facets are not dealt with appropriately, dealt with separately without any co-ordination or submerged in a plethora of exotic detail of interest to academics and theoreticians only. Further reading is suggested in the Bibliography. Many thanks for assistance, constructive suggestions and encouragement are due (in no particular order) to Dr. J. Barry Bracewell-Milnes of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Dr. Nico Nobel of Nobel & Van WierstBV, Dr. Albert Radler, Edode V ries of Gray's Inn and] eremy Lamb of Comprehensive Financial Services.

Download or read book Proceedings Of The 7th And 8th Asian Logic Conferences written by Mariko Yasugi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-11-11 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 7th and the 8th Asian Logic Conferences belong to the series of logic conferences inaugurated in Singapore in 1981. This meeting is held once every three years and rotates among countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with interests in the broad area of logic, including theoretical computer science. It is now considered a major conference in this field and is regularly sponsored by the Association for Symbolic Logic. This book contains papers — many of them surveys by leading experts — of both the 7th meeting (in Hsi-Tou, Taiwan) and the 8th (in Chongqing, China). The volume planned for the 7th meeting was interrupted by the earthquake in Taiwan and the decision was made to combine the two proceedings. The 8th conference is also the ICM2002 Satellite Conference on Mathematical Logic.
