Book Crystal Therapy

Download or read book Crystal Therapy written by Susan Daniel and published by R.E.I. Editions. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New updated edition. Crystal therapy is a complementary practice that uses the energy of crystals, precious and semi-precious stones, to combat ailments of the body and mind. There are many properties of stones, each one deserves a separate study and, if we intend to approach crystal therapy, we must know these properties, so as to choose the most suitable stone according to our needs. Crystal therapy is based on the analysis of the chakras and provides for their treatment through the stones. If one or more of our chakras don't "work" properly, we are affected physically and spiritually; the stones, thanks to their energies, restore balance. From yoga philosophy crystal therapy has assimilated the concept of "chakra" which are the seven areas of our body where energy is concentrated. Stones, like plants and animals, are part of nature and would therefore be able to emit energy and vibrations and being matter in a state of perfect balance, they would be capable of transmitting positive influences. However, it must always be kept in mind that the "stones" have no healing power of their own, so they cannot replace the work of the doctor or any drugs but, according to an oriental concept, applied to the various chakras, can only act by vibratory affinity. In crystallotherapy those areas of the human body where there are the main correspondences of the energy or reflex centers are used as therapeutic principles of application, which are also found in the study of the meridians of Acupuncture, Yoga and Ayurveda, and which are not contradiction with current scientific research. The main thing to be able to implement crystal therapy, of course, is to have a certain basic quantity of crystals, gems, stones.

Book Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) demands that the public, the medical world, social scientists, the media, and governments pay attention. People are questioning the limits of what modern medicine can accomplish and seeking additional ways to manage their health. While many are enthusiastically adopting complementary and alternative forms of medicine, others are more sceptical. Physicians' attitudes are in transition, and governments are pondering where this increasingly important phenomenon fits into the health care system. The challenge is to keep pace with the changing ways that people view health and illness, take reposibility for themselves, and incorporate CAM into their health care. This text brings together for the first time a wide range of leading North American and European social scientists to identify who uses CAM, why they use it, and how they find out about it. Presenting research from psychology, sociology, anthropology and public health, they alert us to the current context of CAM use and provide new models and techniques for understanding its future place in health care.

Book The Challenges of Integrating Religion and Spirituality into Psychotherapy

Download or read book The Challenges of Integrating Religion and Spirituality into Psychotherapy written by Francis A. Martin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-23 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines personal and professional understandings of religion in psychotherapy and advocates for integrity, competency, and cultural pluralism in clinical practice. A major feature of this book is that it confirms the massive proliferation of religion-oriented approaches to counseling and therapy in recent years. It attributes this rise to opportunism and exaggerated individualism among therapists and to the frequent failures of professional associations, clinical preparation programs, and other influences. In response to these influences, it identifies the need for guiding principles for integrating religion into therapy, discusses the religious issues that clients bring to therapy, and advocates for major changes in clinical practice, with emphasis on integrity and competence. Building on a large volume of research and using evidence-based conclusions, it clarifies how these two major features of contemporary life can be integrated with integrity and competence. The author maintains that religion should be a feature of the practice of counseling and therapy, so long as it addresses the clinically relevant needs of clients. However, it also explores how the religion of counselors and therapists often expresses the needs of counselors and therapists, instead of addressing the needs of their clients. In the context of these questions and discussion of contentious challenges, this book provides guidelines for relating religion with clinical practice and recommends needed actions by clinical preparation programs, professional associations, individual therapists, state legislatures, licensing boards, social service agencies, and corporations. All of this stands on the conspicuous need for professional accountability in the delivery of mental health care.

Book Regulating the Health Professions

Download or read book Regulating the Health Professions written by Judith Allsop and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2003-02-27 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `It has particular appeal for health-care professionals and managers with an interest in corporate and clinical governance′ - British Journal of Perioperative Nursing In recent years the health professions have been subject to unprecedented regulatory changes. Exposure of poor practice provoked widespread criticism of self-regulation and calls for a system in which the interests of health care consumers and employers are more fully recognized. Examining the historical and contemporary context, Regulating the Health Professions provides an in-depth analysis of professional self-regulation and the implications of regulatory change for the future of health care. Part One sets out general regulatory issues in the healthcare arena with chapters covering the impact of globalization on the professions, the purpose of professional regulation, the legal context of regulation and the significance of professional codes of ethics. In Part Two, issues specific to the different professions are explored through chapters on medicine, nursing, dentistry, the professions allied to medicine, clinical psychology and alternative medicine. This extremely topical book will be of interest to students, educators and researchers in a wide range of disciplines including sociology, social policy, politics and health studies, and to healthcare professionals and their managers.
