Download or read book 7 Studies for Guitar written by Andrew Hull and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2020-06-19 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed by David Tanenbaum, Guitar Department Chair at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as “a fun and varied set that is pleasing to the ear while being a healthy workout”, the 7 Studies for Guitar by virtuoso guitarist Andrew Hull is a set of concert etudes in the tradition of the twelve etudes of Heitor Villa-Lobos. Andrew is a Guitar Foundation of America International Competition finalist, former student of famed guitar composer Dusan Bogdanovic, and Fulbright Scholar to Uruguay. While in Uruguay, he studied the original manuscripts of the Villa-Lobos etudes with the late Abel Carlevaro. The 7 Studies for Guitar were inspired by that experience: seeing Villa-Lobos’ original pages, sitting at the foot of the technical master Carlevaro, and realizing the great need for a new set of concert studies. The studies are the sum total of his experiences learning from these technical and compositional masters and feature challenging and fiery pieces that test the limits of modern technique with arpeggios, tremolos, scales, and specialized left-hand techniques. Download or read book Harmonics for the 5 String Banjo written by Christopher Rudy and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive text on playing harmonics (chimes) on the 5-string banjo in G tuning! In addition to traditional chiming methods, the author’s new T3N technique for creating banjo harmonics will add new dimensions to your playing. While particularly useful in the three-finger style, T3N can be used in other banjo styles and on other stringed instruments. Most banjo players are familiar with playing open-string harmonics on the 5-string banjo over the 12th, 7th and 5th frets, or perhaps the 4th and 9th frets, so that in typical G-tuning, the open G-chord, D-chord, octave G-chord, and B-chord notes are chimed. With the T3N technique presented in this book, entire scales can be chimed, with other harmonic effects including choking and sliding possibilities! The first part of this book provides a review of traditional banjo harmonic chiming techniques, while the second part explores the exciting new T3Napproach. Written in tablature only, for 5-string banjo in GDGBD tuning.

Download or read book The Art of Mixing written by David Gibson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Gibson uses 3D visual representations of sounds in a mix as a tool to explain the dynamics that can be created in a mix. This book provides an in-depth exploration into the aesthetics of what makes a great mix. Gibson’s unique approach explains how to map sounds to visuals in order to create a visual framework that can be used to analyze what is going on in any mix. Once you have the framework down, Gibson then uses it to explain the traditions that have be developed over time by great recording engineers for different styles of music and songs. You will come to understand everything that can be done in a mix to create dynamics that affect people in really deep ways. Once you understand what engineers are doing to create the great mixes they do, you can then use this framework to develop your own values as to what you feel is a good mix. Once you have a perspective on what all can be done, you have the power to be truly creative on your own – to create whole new mixing possibilities. It is all about creating art out of technology. This book goes beyond explaining what the equipment does – it explains what to do with the equipment to make the best possible mixes.

Download or read book Tuning Timbre Spectrum Scale written by William A. Sethares and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tuning, Timbre, Spectrum, Scale focuses on perceptions of consonance and dissonance, and how these are dependent on timbre. This also relates to musical scale: certain timbres sound more consonant in some scales than others. Sensory consonance and the ability to measure it have important implications for the design of audio devices and for musical theory and analysis. Applications include methods of adapting sounds for arbitrary scales, ways to specify scales for nonharmonic sounds, and techniques of sound manipulation based on maximizing (or minimizing) consonance. Special consideration is given here to a new method of adaptive tuning that can automatically adjust the tuning of a piece based its timbral character so as to minimize dissonance. Audio examples illustrating the ideas presented are provided on an accompanying CD. This unique analysis of sound and scale will be of interest to physicists and engineers working in acoustics, as well as to musicians and psychologists.
