It beautifully captures the strength of the bond between a father and son.”--Heather Morris, author of #1 New York Times bestseller The Tattooist of Auschwitz The #1 Sunday Times bestseller—a remarkable story of the heroic and unbreakable bond between a father and son that is as inspirational as The Tattooist of Auschwitz and as mesmerizing as The Choice. Where there is family, there is hope In 1939, Gustav Kleinmann, a Jewish upholster from Vienna, and his sixteen-year-old son Fritz are arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Germany. Imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp, they miraculously survive the Nazis’ murderous brutality. Then Gustav learns he is being sent to Auschwitz—and certain death. For Fritz, letting his father go is unthinkable. Desperate to remain together, Fritz makes an incredible choice: he insists he must go too. To the Nazis, one death camp is the same as another, and so the boy is allowed to follow. Throughout the six years of horror they witness and immeasurable suffering they endure as victims of the camps, one constant keeps them alive: their love and hope for the future. Based on the secret diary that Gustav kept as well as meticulous archival research and interviews with members of the Kleinmann family, including Fritz’s younger brother Kurt, sent to the United States at age eleven to escape the war, The Boy Who Followed His Father into Auschwitz is Gustav and Fritz’s story—an extraordinary account of courage, loyalty, survival, and love that is unforgettable.

Download or read book Crushed written by Christine Michelle and published by Moonlit Dreams Publications. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mica: It’s been eight years since the boy I crushed on in high school became a memory for me, yet seeing him brought all those old feelings rushing back as if it had been yesterday.Too bad the timing is shit and I can’t trust his lifestyle any more today than I could back then. Too bad I had to trust my life to part of his lifestyle, because I was in trouble. Big trouble. Huge trouble. I was in the type of trouble that gets people dead, or worse. Yes, there was a worse, it came with what they would do to me before the dead part.I’d witnessed my best friend’s rape.I’d testified against the man who had done it. Unfortunately, half his family ran this town by planting themselves firmly in local business, government, and law enforcement positions. The other half ran a criminal underground organization that catered to running drugs, guns, and girls to those who could pay. I stepped in it deep by trying to protect my friend who didn’t stick around afterward to have my back. Now, the only person I can trust is the one I flat out do not trust with my heart. My heart may just be the price I end up paying for my life though. Crusher: I wanted her back then, but knew I wasn't good for her. Now, she needs me. She needs my club. There won't be any going back once we get started.Mica will be mine like she should have been from the beginning.

Download or read book The Statues and Legacies of Combat Athletes in the Americas written by C. Nathan Hatton and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2024-05-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The violence of combat sports left a mark on how fans and communities remembered athletes. As individual endeavors, combat sports have often produced more detailed, emotionally poignant, and deeply personal stories of triumph than those associated with team sports. Commemorative statues to combat athletes are therefore unique as historical markers and sites of memory. These statues tell remarkable stories of the athletes themselves, but also the people and communities that planned and built them, the cities and towns that memorialized them, the fans who followed them, and the evolution of memory and place in the decades that followed their inauguration. Edited by C. Nathan Hatton and David M. K. Sheinin, The Statues and Legacies of Combat Athletes in the Americas brings together an interdisciplinary team of scholars from across North America to interrogate the intimate and layered meanings attached to these monuments to the lives and legacies of combat athletes.

Download or read book Mineral Processing at a Crossroads written by B.A. Wills and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increasingly complex mineralogy, and lower grade of many current ore reserves, technology has, over the past decade, had to evolve rapidly to treat these materials economically in an industry which has undergone severe periods of recession. However, most of the technical innovations, such as the increasing use of solvent-extraction, ion-exchange etc., have been in the field of chemical ore processing, and, apart from the use of computers and ever larger unit process machines, there have been few major evolutionary changes in the field of physical mineral processing, where conventional crushing and grinding methods, essentially unchanged in half a century, are followed by the 'old-faithfuls'- flotation, gravity, magnetic and electrostatic methods of separation. Many of these techniques have major limitations in the treatment of 'new' ores such as complex sulphides, and the main purpose of the NATO Advanced study Institute (ASI) "Mineral Processing at a Crossroads" was to review the future of mineral processing. One of the great failings of physical methods is their inability to treat ultra-fine particles, and much research effort is required in this area. Flotation is still the most widely used and researched method for separating minerals, and is the only method which can be used to produce separate concentrates from complex sulphide ores. However, its performance on these 'modern' ores is poor, and it is in this area particularly that chemical methods will increasingly be integrated into plant circuits.
