Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Billy Doyle: a skilled military Ops Specialist turned uproarious stand-up comedian. His days of combat may have taken a backseat to laughter, but his fighting spirit hasn’t hung up its boots just yet. In a twist of fate, his comedic routine catches the eye of a British Intelligence Officer, especially when Billy effortlessly fends off thugs post-show. This act of valour swiftly lands him a new gig, melding his military prowess with his comedic charm in the covert world of espionage. Billy’s debut in the cloak-and-dagger realm involves investigating, and possibly eliminating, the nefarious Lord Carmthen, the mastermind of a grand blackmailing empire stationed right out of London. As Carmthen’s dark money fuels a drug syndicate stretching across South America, Billy finds himself chasing shadows from the bustling heart of South Florida to the sun-kissed shores of the Caribbean. Infiltrating the cartel isn’t a laughing matter, but Billy’s comedic facade proves to be an unexpected asset in a world where trust is a rare commodity. As he delves deeper into the underbelly of the drug trade, entangling with the cartel’s members, his mission morphs into a crusade to cripple the cartel’s stronghold. But the stakes are sky-high, and the moments of peril Billy faces demand far more than punchlines to navigate. Every covert operation drags him further into a deadly game where missteps could be fatal, and trust could be a mirage. The only constant companion Billy has is danger, and his only armour is his undying resolve to dismantle the tendrils of corruption and hopefully, live to tell the tale.

Book excerpt: Renowned travel authority and NBC Today show travel editor Peter Greenberg shares his insider secrets. Americans now travel more than ever before. Yet as our traveling has increased, the service we receive from airlines, hotels, and other agencies has deteriorated dramatically. Industry surveys reveal what you already feel: growing dissatisfaction among travelers of every age, income, and education level. We've been abused by the travel experience. Peter Greenberg is here to help. The Travel Detective tells you the things most travel agents can't — or sometimes just won't — tell you. In his characteristic friendly and conversational tone, Greenberg tells how to find the secret walk-up fares that can save air travelers hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on last minutes flights; which coach seats on which planes are better than first class; the secret rule to know to avoid being bumped from a flight, which cruise ship brochures lie; which credit card companies are fastest — and slowest — to come to your aid in a foreign land, or worse, in the U.S.,; which hotels have the best — and the worst — fire and crime safety records, and how you can protect yourself; how to negotiate the best hotel room deal; which hotels have the worst water pressure in their showers (and better yet, how you can get great water pressure, even at those hotels); and much, much more. Accessible and entertaining, The Travel Detective gives you the information and tools you need to make every trip an affordable pleasure.

Book Listen but Don t Ask Question

Download or read book Listen but Don t Ask Question written by Kevin Fellezs and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performed on an acoustic steel-string guitar with open tunings and a finger-picking technique, Hawaiian slack key guitar music emerged in the mid-nineteenth century. Though performed on a non-Hawaiian instrument, it is widely considered to be an authentic Hawaiian tradition grounded in Hawaiian aesthetics and cultural values. In Listen But Don’t Ask Question Kevin Fellezs listens to Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) and non-Hawaiian slack key guitarists in Hawai‘i, California, and Japan, attentive to the ways in which notions of Kanaka Maoli belonging and authenticity are negotiated and articulated in all three locations. In Hawai‘i, slack key guitar functions as a sign of Kanaka Maoli cultural renewal, resilience, and resistance in the face of appropriation and occupation, while in Japan it nurtures a merged Japanese-Hawaiian artistic and cultural sensibility. For diasporic Hawaiians in California, it provides a way to claim Hawaiian identity. By demonstrating how slack key guitar is a site for the articulation of Hawaiian values, Fellezs illuminates how slack key guitarists are reconfiguring notions of Hawaiian belonging, aesthetics, and politics throughout the transPacific.
