This book was released on 2001-03-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The Internet plays an important role of today s management decision-making. Great opportunities have to be weighted against investments into knowledge, technology, and organizational restructuring. Often, great uncertainty is involved because of rapidly changing technologies and mutual dependence of transaction parties on each other s degree of technology adoption. The main advantage of electronically performed activities is its improved efficiency. In the past, business-to-business applications have been based on specific investments of individual firms that attempted to gain competitive advantages from proprietary electronic data interchange (EDI). However, investments were huge and flexibility was very limited. Nowadays, Internet technologies allow for global reach, ubiquity, and improved efficiency at reduced asset specificity. One business application of Internet technologies is the independent business-to-business Internet-based marketplace (IBMP), on which buyers and sellers can perform service, product, information, and money transactions. Due to the early stage of technology adoption, the suitability of specific IBMP-transactions is often unclear and all those actors involved have to make strategic decisions concerning the way in which future product transactions will be performed. With the help of this thesis, buyers, sellers, and marketplace providers can evaluate the transactional suitability of product categories. Such an evaluation is of particular importance to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME). They often lack automation and economies of scale. Therefore, the potential of improved efficiency through Internet technologies is here especially high. An exploratory study with the IBMP mondus has allowed for an empirical testing of selected evaluation criteria within selected product categories. The final results of the application explain the complexity of the decision situation and the remaining uncertainty due to the early stage of technology adoption. Download or read book E Commerce and Intelligent Methods written by Javier Segovia and published by Physica. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers significant recent developments in the field of Intelligent Meth ods applied to eCommerce. The Intelligent Methods considered are mainly Soft Computing Methods that include fuzzy sets, rough sets, neural networks, evolutionary computations, probabilistic and evidential reasoning, multivalued logic, and related fields. There is not doubt about the relevance of eCommerce in our daily environ ments and in the work carried out at many research centers throughout the world. The application of AI to Commerce is growing as fast as the computers and net works are being integrated in all business and commerce aspects. We felt that it was time to sit down and see how was the impact into that field of low-level AI, i.e. softcomputing. We found many scattered contributions disseminated in con ferences, workshops, journal, books or even technical reports, but nothing like a common framework that could serve as a basis for further research, comparison or even prototyping for a direct transfer to the industry. We felt then the need to set up a reference point, a book like this. We planned this book as a recompilation of the newest developments of re searchers who already made some contribution into the field. The authors were se lected based on the originality and quality of their work and its relevance to the field. Authors came from prestigious universities and research centers with differ ent backgrounds.

Download or read book Blockchain Revolution written by Don Tapscott and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blockchain technology is powering our future. As the technology behind cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and Facebook's Libra, open software platforms like Ethereum, and disruptive companies like Ripple, it’s too important to ignore. In this revelatory book, Don Tapscott, the bestselling author of Wikinomics, and his son, blockchain expert Alex Tapscott, bring us a brilliantly researched, highly readable, and essential book about the technology driving the future of the economy. Blockchain is the ingeniously simple, revolutionary protocol that allows transactions to be simultaneously anonymous and secure by maintaining a tamperproof public ledger of value. Though it’s best known as the technology that drives bitcoin and other digital currencies, it also has the potential to go far beyond currency, to record virtually everything of value to humankind, from birth and death certificates to insurance claims, land titles, and even votes. Blockchain is also essential to understand if you’re an artist who wants to make a living off your art, a consumer who wants to know where that hamburger meat really came from, an immigrant who’s tired of paying big fees to send money home to your loved ones, or an entrepreneur looking for a new platform to build a business. And those examples are barely the tip of the iceberg. As with major paradigm shifts that preceded it, blockchain technology will create winners and losers. This book shines a light on where it can lead us in the next decade and beyond.

Download or read book Unleashing Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Europe written by Andrea Renda and published by . This book was released on 2016-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovation and entrepreneurship are key pillars of economic growth and well-being. They may also serve as a crucial driver of Europe's future economic (and possibly political) recovery. Around the world, innovation and entrepreneurship are evoked as major avenues for economic growth and competitiveness, while recent debates aim at reconciling sustainability and governance. Over the past two decades, however, Europe has performed rather poorly, on average, in both dimensions. On one hand, many political leaders have denounced the existence of an "innovation emergency" in Europe. At the same time, commentators have observed Europe's inability to create a suitable environment in which entrepreneurship can flourish. In the autumn of 2015, CEPS formed a Task Force of experts and stakeholders to examine key aspects of the debate on how to boost these two dimensions in Europe. Their report takes a dynamic, forward-looking view of EU policy, encompassing technological development, new business models, the expected changes in the labor market, and the evolving role of public and private players as platforms and actors of innovation.

Download or read book Third Party Funding in International Arbitration written by Lisa Bench Nieuwveld and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2016-04-24 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first edition of this invaluable book in 2012, third-party funding has become more mainstream in international arbitration practice. However, since even the existence of a third-party funding agreement in a dispute is often kept secret, it can be difficult to glean the specifics of successful funding agreements. This welcome book, now updated, expertly reveals the nuances of third-party funding in international arbitration, examines the phenomenon in key jurisdictions, and provides a reliable resource for users and potential users that may wish to tap into and make use of this distinctive funding tool. Focusing on Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and South Africa, the authors analyze and assess the legal regime based upon legislation, judicial opinions, ethics opinions, and practitioner anecdotes describing the state of third-party funding in each jurisdiction. In addition to updating summaries of the law of the various jurisdictions, the second edition includes a new chapter addressing third-party funding in investor-state arbitration. Among the issues raised and examined are the following: · payment of adverse costs; · “Before-the-Event” (BTE) and “After-the-Event” (ATE) insurance; · attorney financing: pro bono representation, contingency representation, conditional fee arrangements; · loans; · ethical doctrines affecting the third-party funding industry; · possible future bundling, securitization, and trading of legal claims; · risk that the funder may put its own interests ahead of the client’s interests; and · whether the existence of a funding agreement must or should be disclosed to the decision maker. The second edition also includes discussion of recent institutional developments as they relate to third-party funding, including the work of the ICCA-Queen Mary Task Force on Third-Party Funding and how third-party funding is being incorporated into arbitral rules and investment treaties. Ably providing a thorough understanding of what third-party funding entails and what legal parameters exist, this book will be of compelling interest to parties aiming to take advantage of the high values, speed, reduced evidentiary costs, outcome predictability, industry expertise, and high award enforceability characteristic of the third-party funding arrangements available in international arbitration.
