While the world reeled from the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), thousands of people around the globe, inspired by challenges from Getty and other museums, raided toy chests, repurposed pantry items, and enlisted family, roommates, and animals to re-create famous works of art at home. Astonishing in their creativity, wit, and ingenuity, these creations remind us of the power of art to unite us and bring joy during troubled times. Book Dreams of Re Creation in Jamaica

Download or read book Dreams of Re Creation in Jamaica written by Diana Cooper-Clark and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diana Cooper-Clark has written a book that uncovers a ‘hidden’ history in the Holocaust narrative. The stories of seventeen Holocaust survivors who escaped to Jamaica and who are among the last eyewitnesses to the Shoah are inspiring. As well, she reveals the involvement of Jamaican Jews with the refugees and the Holocaust, and the virtually unknown story of the killing of Caribbean Jews in Nazi concentration camps. In addition, Dreams of Re-Creation in Jamaica has dozens of never before published photographs shared by the Jewish refugees. This book also sheds light on the Sephardim and their marginalization in the history of Hitler’s extermination policies. These compelling tales bring together World War II, Jewish refugees and Jamaican Jews, stories that have previously slipped through the cracks of history. As a child of six years old in Jamaica, Cooper-Clark read a book about the Nazi, Karl Eichmann, thus changing her life. She swore to spend the rest of her life bearing witness to the Holocaust. For everyone inspired by survival stories, and the triumph of life over death for both individuals and communities, this book is a must-read.

Book Translation re Creation

Download or read book Translation re Creation written by Duncan Poupard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a study of European-language translations of Naxi ritual manuscripts, the ritual literature of a small ethnic group living in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The author discusses the translations into European languages (in English, French and German) from the late nineteenth century to the second half of the twentieth century, revealing a history of fragmentary yet interconnected translation efforts in the West. By exploring this network, he shows how translation can be understood as a metonymic “recreation” of textual worlds. As Naxi manuscripts are semi-oral texts representing an oral-formulaic tradition, their translation involves a metonymic relay of partial incorporations from manuscript/image to reading/spoken language. Therefore, the book engages in a series of textual excavations to uncover the previously occluded contemporaneous readings that would have led to the translations we can consult today, particularly in an attempt to understand how the Naxi literature came to be part of Ezra Pound’s Cantos. Scholars in the field of ethnic minority literature in China and translation studies will find this book beneficial, and it will make new contributions to comparative literature between the East and West.

Book From Creation to Re Creation

Download or read book From Creation to Re Creation written by Daniel Lazich and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the last forty years, scientific discoveries and knowledge about our universe contain unprecedented theological implications. They imply that the creator exists, more so than ever before. These discoveries have developed a worldview that challenges both theologians and scientists to engage in a mutually fruitful dialogue. From Creation to Re-Creation uniquely presents God’s accomplishments as author Daniel Lazich transports himself to a time when authors wrote creation narratives to depict the contrast between the ancient epics and biblical narrative. It forcefully asserts that the creation of this world and humankind was accomplished by the Creator, who loves humanity selflessly. This assertion is backed by the most advanced study and research concerning our universe’s nature. Lazich writes that the final observer in quantum cosmology and God in the Bible are the same. From Creation to Re-Creation employs unprecedented theological implications to assert that the creator’s existence is necessary for the universe and humankind in it to exist.

Book The Re Creation of Planet Earth and the Real Account of Life S Beginnings

This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why there is such a huge discrepancy between what scientists say about the age of our planet and what the Bible says? According to scientists, the planet is 4.6 billion years old. Yet the Bible says that this planet Earth is only six thousand years old. But what if both were right? What if there was an analysis of creation that combined science with scripture in the search for truthyielding a unique and provocative conclusion about lifes beginning? In The Re-Creation of Planet Earth and the Real Account of Lifes Beginnings, author Brian Donnelly explores just this integration of science and biblical truth to provide a more realistic account of creation and re-creation. He addresses the ongoing debate between creation science and evolutionary biology, and he shows how creation is more viable than evolutionary theory and the big bang. The Re-Creation of the Planet Earth and the Real Account of Lifes Beginnings also speaks to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, and it provides a detailed description of what heaven is likean account supported by scripture and near-death experiences. Having a complete view of creation, re-creation, heaven, and lifes beginnings will help you better understand how God relates to us today. But even more, this understanding can go on to help you see through the fog of the world and better relate to God as a believer.

Book Children of Laughter and the Re Creation of Humanity

Download or read book Children of Laughter and the Re Creation of Humanity written by Samuel J. Tedder and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul’s passionate Letter to the Galatians has occasioned various perspectives (old, new, radical new, apocalyptic, etc.) for explaining Paul’s defense of the “truth of the gospel” in it. This book makes an audacious claim that the allegorical passage of 4:21–5:1 is the best vantage point for configuring Paul’s theological vision and logic in the letter. Offering a fresh approach for understanding Paul’s allegorical practice, it demonstrates how both the Abraham narrative and the book of Isaiah function as a formative matrix for Paul’s theology. With an in-depth analysis of these scriptural texts, Paul’s two identifications for believers in Christ—belonging to the “Jerusalem above” and being “children of promise” in the pattern of Isaac—receive new clarity and precision. The investigative journey in this book discusses key concepts and texts from Galatians, and addresses questions concerning the shape of Paul’s retelling of Israel’s story in relation to Jews and Gentiles. The result is a well-grounded interpretation of Paul’s conception of the gospel that made him new and continues to bring about new creation in our world.

Book Re Creation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul E. Truitt
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2015-01-09
  • ISBN : 1503521222
  • Pages : 129 pages

Download or read book Re Creation written by Paul E. Truitt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-01-09 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Truitt tries to answer the following age-old questions from a philosophical, psychological, scientific and spiritual perspective: When a person dies, where does their spirit go? Are they born again? Does God want you putting words in his mouth? What makes living things intelligent and gives them life? Is a persons soul immortal? What happens to a persons soul after death? How can a soul be judged? What is the number one reason that a person should strive to make the world a better place for its future inhabitants? What is the ultimate truth, the ultimate reality? What is Dr. Truitts perception of reincarnation, being born again, and what he calls the re-creation or God and Mother Natures plan to perfect the souls of man and to turn the paradise that we call earth into the ultimate form of the good? Our purpose in life is to serve God and Mother Nature for the common good of all living things! Most religions are merely perceived by man to satisfy mankinds innate (God-given) need to know and understand. Gods instructions for living their lives are firmly ingrained in the souls of all his living creatures! To know and understand the truth is one of mankinds most essential innate or God-given needs. The ultimate truth, the ultimate reality, Gods laws, and the laws of nature are universal and never change; they never contradict each other.

Book Creation and the Abrahamic Faiths

Download or read book Creation and the Abrahamic Faiths written by Neil Spurway and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05-27 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creation! How we are here. Not just us, of course, but bluetits and Hereford cattle and cabbages and E. coli and deserts and mountains and suns and nebulae … in fact, all that is. So not only “Why are we here?” but “Why is there a ‘here’ for us to inhabit?”. That is this book’s theme. Inevitably it doesn’t answer the question in a mechanistic sense. A telescope cannot look at itself, and neither can an inhabitant of the Universe say how it came to be. But that does not stop those questions haunting us. So where shall we turn? To cosmology? The concept of an initial event, a “Big Bang”, is now almost universally accepted. But what caused that? Most would feel that this is not a question science can answer. The first two contributors to this book are professional cosmologists, yet cosmology is only a background for this book, not its core theme. That theme is the conviction that the Universe owes its existence to a divine Creator – and the specific formulations of this conviction in the three great monotheistic religions, the “Abrahamic” faiths. The scriptures of all three faiths include the creation-accounts in the first two chapters of Genesis. Later developments moved the expressions of the three faiths considerably apart, but the social and political conditions of the 21st C world make it imperative that every effort should be put into a recovery of understanding between their practitioners. The purpose of this book is to contribute to that understanding. Of thirteen chapters, two are by Jewish authors and three by Moslems; several of the Christian authors also are deeply versed in the other traditions. Together, the chapters show that the attitudes of the three faiths to Creation have far more in common than otherwise. In particular, they are noticeably and encouragingly coming together in their endorsements of 21st C concerns for the environment. The book derives from a conference of the Science and Religion Forum in Sept 2006, but all chapters have been rewritten for publication, and carefully edited with linking commentaries.

Book Evaluation and Translation

Download or read book Evaluation and Translation written by Carol Maier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-23 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definition of value or quality with respect to work in translation has historically been a particularly vexed issue. Today, however, the growing demand for translations in such fields as technology and business and the increased scrutiny of translators' work by scholars in many disciplines is giving rise to a need for more nuanced, more specialized, and more explicit methods of determining value. Some refer to this determination as evaluation, others use the term assessment. Either way, the question is one of measurement and judgement, which are always unavoidably subjective and frequently rest on criteria that are not overtly expressed. This means that devising more complex evaluative practices involves not only quantitative techniques but also an exploration of the attitudes, preferences, or individual values on which criteria are established. Intended as an interrogation and a critique that can serve to prompt a more thorough and open consideration of evaluative criteria, this special issue of The Translator offers examinations of diverse evaluative practices and contains both empirical and hermeneutic work. Topics addressed include the evaluation of student translations using more up-to-date and positive methods such as those employed in corpus studies; the translation of non?standard language; translation into the second language; terminology; the application of theoretical criteria to practice; a social?textual perspective; and the reviewing of literary translations in the press. In addition, reviews by a number of literary translators discuss specific translations both into and out of English.
