This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Education for People and Planet: Creating Sustainable Futures for All explores the complex relationship between education and the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, covering six fundamental pillars - Planet, Prosperity, People, Peace, Place and Partnerships. This report shows that education will not deliver its full potential unless participation rates increase dramatically and sustainable development guides education system reform. It also warns of the destructive impact that climate change, conflict, unsustainable consumption and the increasing gap between rich and poor have on education. A huge transformation is needed if we are to create sustainable futures for all. This edition of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) is the first in a series that will assess the progress of education under the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The GEM Report provides evidence-based recommendations on the policies, strategies and programmes needed to meet the ambitious Education 2030 vision. It discusses the challenges of monitoring progress on the new global education goal and targets to ensure improvement in access, participation, completion, learning and reduced inequality. It provides readers with an authoritative source to enable them to argue for the value and importance of education at all levels of decision-making."--Back cover

Book Global Citizenship Education

Download or read book Global Citizenship Education written by Eva Aboagye and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of citizenship and conceptions of what it means to be a good citizen have evolved over time. On the one hand, good citizenship entails the ability to live with others in diverse societies and to promote a common set of values of acceptance, human rights, and democracy. On the other hand, in order to compete in the global economy, nations require a more innovative, autonomous, and reflective workforce, meaning good citizens are also those who successfully participate in the economic development of themselves and their country. These competing conceptions of good citizenship can result in people’s participation in activities, such as profit-driven labor exploitation, that contradict human rights and democratic tenants. Thus, global citizenship education is fundamental to teaching, learning, and redressing sociopolitical, economic, and environmental exploitation around the world. Detailing the historical development of this field of study to achieve recognition, Global Citizenship Education: Challenges and Successes provides a critical discourse on global citizenship education (GCE). Authors in this collection discuss the underpinnings of global citizenship education via contemporary theories and methodologies, as well as specific case studies that illustrate the application of GCE initiatives. Editors Eva Aboagye and S. Nombuso Dlamini aim to motivate learners and educators in post-secondary institutions not only to understand the issues of social and economic inequality and political and civil unrest facing us, but also to take action that will lead to equitable change in both local and global spaces.

Book Education Law Strategic Policy and Sustainable Development in Africa

Download or read book Education Law Strategic Policy and Sustainable Development in Africa written by A.C Onuora-Oguno and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines the findings and suggestions of the Law and Society Association’s International Research Collaborations, which focused on the African Union’s Agenda 2063. This outlined the ideal Africa aspired to by the year 2063: ‘the Africa we want’. The authors examine socio-economic rights issues and their impact on developing a strong educational agenda that can drive Africa to realize Agenda 2063. As Africa’s development has remained slow in the face of many challenges, the need to embrace good governance, rule of law and human rights obligations are major tools to realize the continent’s potential. The project focuses in particular on the central place of education law and policy in achieving the goals of Agenda 2063.
