Book Youth Entrepreneurship and Local Development in Central and Eastern Europe

Download or read book Youth Entrepreneurship and Local Development in Central and Eastern Europe written by Bruno Dallago and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the opportunities and barriers for youth entrepreneurship amid systemic change in Central and Eastern Europe. The authors cover different aspects of youth entrepreneurship and its contribution to the debate on youth unemployment in transition economies. The book discusses the wide-spread over-optimism regarding youth entrepreneurship, self-employment, and its impact on economic innovation and job creation, resulting from a disregard of critical contextual features and the characteristics of young entrepreneurs themselves. The authors give due acknowledgment of the importance of both factors and so fully understand the impediments to youth entrepreneurship, especially in a transition context. Furthermore, they seek to assess the opportunities and constraints of promotion policies in transition economies. Most importantly, the book provides the first empirical contribution to youth entrepreneurship in Central and Eastern Europe by offering a representative number of case studies. The book will be invaluable reading for scholars and students of transition and developing countries, particularly those with an interest in entrepreneurship.

Book Youth Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Youth Entrepreneurship written by Chris Ehiobuche and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges and opportunities facing the Nigerian youths demand rethinking of new ways of doing things. Youth unemployment and underemployment are at a record high. More than ever, the Nigerian youths are in dire need of finding other avenues to explore in pursuit of life endeavors. Youth employment, underemployment, and unemployment are serious concerns for our society, civilization, and the nation. Ehiobuche and Madueke took a different approach to discussing and presenting a practical approach to youth entrepreneurshipfrom the notion of a shared responsibility for the change of mindset from falling into the victims theory dimensions to intelligent ventures and resilience. Their model presents insight on how a paradigm shift among the youths and the society in general from job search to business development may well lead to entrepreneurs and self-productive citizens. The authors hope to inspire, inform, and encourage todays youths to become tomorrows entrepreneurs, leaders, and good citizens. Making the transition from seeking employment, unemployment, or underemployment to self-employment/entrepreneurship is the primary purpose of this book. The topics include the following: Conquering personal and cultural roadblocks to entrepreneurship Shifting mental and physical focus from employee to employer Avoiding common pitfalls in starting and running a sustainable small business Making the best out of being a youth The authors urge the Nigerian youths to avoid falling into a victim mentality and start their paradigm shift into the mindsets of entrepreneurs.

Book Where the Jobs Are

Download or read book Where the Jobs Are written by John Dearie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-08-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to ending America's jobs emergency by accelerating the true engine of job creation—start-ups Four years after the end of the Great Recession, 23 million Americans remain unemployed, underemployed, or have left the workforce discouraged. Even worse, Washington policymakers seem out of ideas. Where the Jobs Are: Entrepreneurship and the Soul of the American Economy shows how America can restore its great job-creation machine. Recent research has demonstrated that virtually all net new job creation in the United States over the past thirty years has come from businesses less than a year old—true "start-ups." Start-up businesses create an average of three million new jobs each year, while existing businesses of any size or age shed a net average of about one million jobs annually. Unfortunately, the vital signs of America's job-creating entrepreneurial economy are flashing red alert. After remaining remarkably consistent for decades, the rate of new business formation has declined significant in recent years, and the number of new jobs created by new firms is also falling. In Where the Jobs Are, the authors recount the findings of a remarkable summer they spent traveling the country to meet and conduct roundtables with entrepreneurs in a dozen cities. More than 200 entrepreneurs participated—explaining in specific and vividly personal terms the issues, frustrations, and obstacles that are undermining their efforts to launch new businesses, expand existing young firms, and create jobs. Those obstacles include a dangerously underperforming education system, self-defeating immigration policies that thwart the attraction and retention of the world's best talent, access to capital difficulties, a mounting regulatory burden, unnecessary tax complexity, and severe Washington-produced economic uncertainty. Explains how start-ups are different from existing businesses, large or small, and why they represent the engine of job creation Reveals how policymakers' failure to understand the unique nature and needs of start-ups has undermined efforts to stimulate the economy following the Great Recession Presents a detailed, innovative, and uniquely credible 30-point policy agenda based on what America's job creators said they urgently need Engaging and informative, Where the Jobs Are reveals with unprecedented precision and clarity the major obstacles undermining the fragile economic recovery, and provides a vitally important game plan to unleash the job-creating capacity of the entrepreneurial economy and put a beleaguered nation back to work.

Book Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth

Download or read book Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth written by David B. Audretsch and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-04-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By serving as a conduit for knowledge spillovers, entrepreneurship is the missing link between investments in new knowledge and economic growth. The knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship provides not just an explanation of why entrepreneurship has become more prevalent as the factor of knowledge has emerged as a crucial source for comparative advantage, but also why entrepreneurship plays a vital role in generating economic growth. Entrepreneurship is an important mechanism permeating the knowledge filter to facilitate the spill over of knowledge and ultimately generate economic growth.

Book Youth Empowerment Leveraging on Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Youth Empowerment Leveraging on Entrepreneurship written by Raheem Shefiu and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines youth entrepreneurship as a tool that could be employed and also deployed for economic empowerment in order to arrest the growing rate of insecurity occasioned by poverty and unemployment. A thriving economy would require a greater number of young people who are willing and able to become entrepreneurs; who can launch and successfully develop their own commercial or social ventures, and who will become innovators in the wider organizations in which they work. Entrepreneurship can unleash the economic potential of young people and be a source of new jobs and growth, while improving their economic independence. Young people can no longer expect to find 'job-for-life' careers but rather 'portfolio careers' (contract employment, freelancing, periods of self-employment, etc.). Entrepreneurial experience and/or education help youth develop new skills that can be applied to other challenges in life. Utilizing the leisure time of the youth and harnessing their exuberance and raw energy for creative activities is essential. Simultaneously, but more substantially there is need to provide opportunities for vocational skill development of the youth and inculcate self-entrepreneurship in them so as to motivate them towards self-reliance. This becomes all the more important in the context of shrinking job opportunities in the existing infrastructure and the need for promoting entrepreneurship which serves the triple objective of self-sustainability, creating new jobs and thereby supporting economic growth.

Book Unlocking the Potential of Youth Entrepreneurship in Developing Countries

Download or read book Unlocking the Potential of Youth Entrepreneurship in Developing Countries written by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demographic pressure and the youth bulge in the developing world pose a major employment challenge. This situation is exacerbated by insufficient job creation, scarce formal wage employment opportunities and vulnerability in the workplace. For these reasons, fostering youth entrepreneurship has gained importance in the global and national development policy agenda. This report aims to contribute to the ongoing debate on the role of youth entrepreneurship in generating employment in developing countries. It is based on the analysis of mixed labour force and enterprise surveys conducted in Côte d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Peru and Viet Nam, as well as evidence on the impact of entrepreneurship programmes. This report's findings add to the global debate on youth entrepreneurship in three important ways. First, it constitutes an unprecedented effort to capture the real situations and multiple faces of young entrepreneurs in selected developing countries. Second, it provides new empirical evidence on the determinants of youth entrepreneurial performance. Third, it proposes a policy roadmap based on lessons learned from recent meta-analyses of the effectiveness of entrepreneurship programmes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship is seen as a means of creating employment opportunities to overcome the rising youth unemployment and nations are making efforts to promote the concept. Entrepreneurship is strongly link with opportunities, which come in different forms and require individuals to possess strong entrepreneurial skills. The inability of the youth to recognize entrepreneurial opportunities in and around their environment, led to their inability to engage in self-employment that is seen as an important source of employment, livelihoods and economic dynamism (OECD, 2001). This book provides an assessment of the entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges associated with opportunity recognition in the Ghana. It also gives an assessment of both the skills the youth possess and their ability to acquire appropriate skills to exploit the existing opportunities within the local economy as sources of employment. Major challenges of the youth include lack of funding, lack of skills and the none-existence of well-developed skills training institutions. It is therefore imperative for authorities of the local economy to collaborate with institutions for youth skills training and funding.
