Book Enantioselective Chemical Synthesis

Download or read book Enantioselective Chemical Synthesis written by Elias J. Corey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by world-renowned and best-selling experts, Nobel Laureate E. J. Corey and Laszlo Kurti, Enantioselective Chemical Synthesis offers an authoritative and comprehensive overview of the field's progress; the processes and tools for key formations; future development for complex, stereocontrolled (enantiomeric or diastereoisomeric) molecules; and valuable examples of multi-step syntheses. Utilizing a color-coded scheme to illustrate chemical transformations, Enantioselective Chemical Synthesis provides clear explanation and guidance through vital asymmetrical syntheses and insight into the next steps for the field. Researchers, professionals, and academics will benefit from this valuable, thorough, and unique resource. - In Part I, the authors present clearly, comprehensively and concisely the most useful enantioselective processes available to synthetic chemists. - Part II provides an extensive discussion of the most logical ways to apply these new enantioselective methods to the planning of syntheses of stereochemically complex molecules. This hitherto neglected area is essential for the advancement of enantioselective synthesis to a more rational and powerful level. - Part III describes in detail many reaction sequences which have been used successfully for the construction of a wide variety of complex target molecules - Clearly explains stereochemical synthesis in theory and practice - Provides a handy tool box for scientists wishing to understand and apply chiral chemical synthesis - Describes almost 50 real life examples of asymmetric synthesis in practice and examines how the chiral centers were introduced at key synthetic stages

Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the industrial production and processing of natural resources. It is divided into six major topics (fats and oils, carbohydrates, lignin, terpenoids, other natural products, biorefinery), which are divided into a total of 20 chapters. Each chapter is self-contained and therefore a compact learning unit, which can be worked on by students in self-study or presented by lecturers. Clear illustrations, flow diagrams, apparatus drawings and photos facilitate the understanding of the subject matter. All chapters end with a succinct summary, the "Take Home Messages". Each chapter is supplemented by ten short test questions, which can be solved quickly after working through the chapter; the answers are at the end of the book. All chapters contain bibliographical references that focus on essential textbooks and reference works. As a prior knowledge, only basic knowledge of chemistry is required.

Book excerpt: Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds, Volume II: Alicyclic Compounds focuses on alicyclic chemistry. The book first ponders on acyclic and monocyclic monoterpenoids, including artemisyl, santolinyl, chrysanthemyl, and other irregular systems; naturally occurring halogenated monoterpenoids; cyclobutanes; and tetramethylcyclohexanes. The text discusses the carotenoid group of natural products. Trends in carotenoid chemical research; improved methodology; optical isomerism including aliene isomerism; and geometrical isomerism are described. The book discusses cycloheptanes and cyclooctanes, large alicyclic ring systems, and polycarbonic compounds with separate ring systems and spiro compounds. The text describes polycyclic compounds and polycarbocyclic bridged ring compounds, and then discusses bicarbocyclic natural products. The Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement; camphor and related compounds; fenchone and related compounds; and carane, thujane, and pinane groups are also considered. Book The Handbook of Naturally Occurring Insecticidal Toxins

Download or read book The Handbook of Naturally Occurring Insecticidal Toxins written by Opender Koul and published by CABI. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 863 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Naturally occurring toxins are among the most complicated and lethal in existence. Plant species, microorganisms and marine flora and fauna produce hundreds of toxic compounds for defence and to promote their chances of survival, and these can be isolated and appropriated for our own use. Many of these toxins have yet to be thoroughly described, despite being studied for years. Focusing on the natural toxins that are purely toxic to insects, this book contains over 500 chemical structures. It discusses the concepts and mechanisms involved in toxicity, bioassay procedures for evaluation, structure-activity relationships, and the potential for future commercialization of these compounds. A comprehensive review of the subject, this book forms an important source of information for researchers and students of crop protection, pest control, phytochemistry and those dealing in insect-plant interactions.

Download or read book Analysis of Sterols written by J. Goad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it Samuel Johnson, 18 April, 1775* Sterols are among the most studied groups of natural products with interest commencing in the 19th century and running to the present. Investigations have embraced the refinement of separation procedures, the development of new analytical techniques and instrumentation for structure elucidation, the unravelling of biosynthetic mechanisms, the determination of the physiological functions of sterols, and the role they play in health and disease. In the past 20-30 years interest in the medical implications of sterol biochemistry, studies on the sterols of plants, algae and fungi, and the identification of the many unusual sterols from marine organisms have proceeded in parallel and somewhat independently. Although the motiva tion and goals for the various lines of investigation have differed widely the researchers working in each of these areas have contributed a wealth of knowledge to the literature relating to the analysis of sterols and many diverse new sterols have been discovered. We conceived this book as a modest attempt to bring together some of this literature in the hope that it may be helpful to newcomers to sterol research. We had originally intended to produce a 'handbook' outlining in detail the protocols to be followed for sterol extraction, chromatography, NMR analysis, etc. in order to identify the components of a sterol mixture.
