Book The Life of Cracks

Download or read book The Life of Cracks written by Srečko Glodež and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-13 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people find the concept of fracture and damage mechanics to be somewhat problematic, mainly because, until recently, close attention in mechanics was focused especially on the strength and resistance of materials. In this sense, to speak of fracture is as uncomfortable for some as it is to speak of a deadly disease. In confronting and preventing a fatal disease, one must understand its complexity, symptoms, and behavior; by the same token, in securing the strength of an engineering structure, one must understand the reasons and type of its potential failure. This book will provide knowledge and insights on this matter to its readers.

Book Fatigue Crack Propagation in the Heat Affected Zone of 21 4Cr 1Mo Steel and ERNiCr 3 Weldments

Download or read book Fatigue Crack Propagation in the Heat Affected Zone of 21 4Cr 1Mo Steel and ERNiCr 3 Weldments written by T. Weerasooriya and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fatigue crack growth rate at 510°C in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of a 21⁄4Cr-1Mo steel weldment was examined as a function of frequency and stress-intensity factor. The weldment was made of isothermally annealed 21⁄4Cr-1Mo steel base metal and ERNiCr-3 weld metal. Fatigue crack growth rate data for thermally aged HAZ material lie between the two scatter bands of data for the base metal and ERNiCr3 filler metal at 510°C. Prior thermal aging up to 2000 h at 566°C does not substantially change the fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ material at 510°C. Fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ material increases with decreasing frequency at 510°C and stress ratio of 0.05 for 20 MPam

Book Handbook of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Metallic Structures

Download or read book Handbook of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Metallic Structures written by A. Carpinteri and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this Handbook is to provide a review of the knowledge and experiences in the field of fatigue fracture mechanics. It is well-known that engineering structures can fail due to cyclic loading. For instance, a cyclically time-varying loading reduces the structure strength and can provoke a fatigue failure consisting of three stages: (a) crack initiation (b) crack propagation and (c) catastrophic failure. Since last century many scientists have tried to understand the reasons for the above-mentioned failures and how to prevent them. This Handbook contains valuable contributions from leading experts within the international scientific community and covers many of the important problems associated with the fatigue phenomena in civil, mechanical and nuclear engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallurgical Modelling of Welding gives graduate students, engineers and researchers an in-depth insight into the field of welding metallurgy, providing a broad overview of its fundamental principles. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the understanding of the chemical and physical processes which take place during weldning. This book brings together all the basic components to reach the goal of faster process development, optimisation of processes and properties, and the possibility of developing new and weldable alloys. The second edition includes a new chapter of exercis.

Book Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches

Download or read book Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches written by Dieter Radaj and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local approaches to fatigue assessment are used to predict the structural durability of welded joints, to optimise their design and to evaluate unforeseen joint failures. This standard work provides a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods. It covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Seam-welded and spot-welded joints in structural steels and aluminium alloys are also considered. This completely reworked second edition takes into account the tremendous progress in understanding and applying local approaches which has been achieved in the last decade. It is a standard reference for designers, structural analysts and testing engineers who are responsible for the fatigue-resistant in-service behaviour of welded structures. Completely reworked second edition of a standard work providing a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods Covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Book Cracking Phenomena in Welds IV

Download or read book Cracking Phenomena in Welds IV written by Thomas Böllinghaus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-10 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume in the well-established series of compendiums devoted to the subject of weld hot cracking. It contains the papers presented at the 4th International Cracking Workshop held in Berlin in April 2014. In the context of this workshop, the term “cracking” refers to hot cracking in the classical and previous sense, but also to cold cracking, stress-corrosion cracking and elevated temp. solid-state cracking. A variety of different cracking subjects are discussed, including test standards, crack prediction, weldability determination, crack mitigation, stress states, numerical modelling, and cracking mechanisms. Likewise, many different alloys were investigated such as aluminum alloys, copper-aluminum dissimilar metal, austenitic stainless steel, nickel base alloys, duplex stainless steel, creep resistant steel, and high strength steel.
