Download or read book Cowboy Poetry For Sale written by Richard Mousseau and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legendary cowboy, Cheeks-Too-Soft relaxes in semi-retirement on the porch of a weathered old barn-board cabin to reminisce on the life of being a cowboy. From a book of collections of cowboy poetry, Cheeks will recite tales of adventure, love, lost love, dreams and the wide open spaces of riding to the next round up, the next meal and bedding down by a warm fire. Drop by, sit awhile, drift into the mystic essence of a cowboy-cowgirl's world. Everyone can be a cowboy-cowgirl or dream of being a part of the lifestyle of the men and women that created the western ensemble. Quotes: I was chocking on the dust and humour of the poems that give a realistic and a romantic twist to the cowboy life. I laughed myself silly, then a poem came along that twisted emotions into my heart that tears blur my eyes no matter how often I reread. A collection of cowboy poetry for everyone from intellectuals to children and men that never read, to a house wife like me that needs a short poem to boost happiness, thank you.

Download or read book A Cowboy Spirit written by Stuart Hooker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of a few of my "cowboy" poems. It is a diverse mixture of topics about ranching and cowboyin.' They vary from purely fictional, such as "Team Ropers From Hell" and "Another Hundred Years," to poems based on real experiences, such as, "Crossin' the Gila" and "The Dog Is Smellin' My Saddle." Some are inspirational like "Between the Doors," and "A Cowboy's Savior." Still others are more humorous, such as "There's A Cowboy At the Gate," "Leavin' Town," and "My Talkin' Horse" which fits in the "slightly weird" category along with one of my grandaughter's favorites "The Window." Rick Huff, a nationally recognized reviewer of Western Music and Cowboy Poetry recently gave this book a very enthusiastic review. He said "Hooker is ranch-raised and one heckuva poet, as he proves in 'A Cowboy Spirit.'" He went on to say, "This one is special. Make the effort to find it." "True West Magazine" chose "A Cowboy Spirit" as Best Western Poetry Book for 2014, in their January issue. I truly believe there's poems for everyone in my collection. I hope you find some you like.

Book Western poetry with a cowboy flair

Download or read book Western poetry with a cowboy flair written by Denny Bertrand and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eagle I wrote this poem about when I was living on Dr. M.J. Nachtriebs Ranch at Northrop, Colorado. In the mornings as I would leave to work I would see this pair of eagles above in their nest in a tree. At night when I got home I wouldn’t see them, but just before dark they would fly over the camper I was staying in. I always liked to think they were watching over me.

Book excerpt: Roy R. Moore thinks of himself in this book as "just a cowboy," but don't let that fool you. He is better described as a cowman and rancher. But hold on, that really only describes half of his livelihood. At 82 years of age he has gained a reputation in Real Estate trading and sales. In 1967, he won an award from the National Association of Realtors for "Most Creative Real Estate Exchange." The Society of Exchange Counselors (SEC) awarded him with "Most Creative Exchange" - 1993, 1999, 2002. He was voted "Livestock Man of the Year" at The National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in 1988.Roy is very proud of his sales and purchases of ranches. But most of all he is proud of the family, four sons, that he and his wife Bobbi have raised. It can be said that a man is measured by the success of his sons. His whole family was involved in an unusual meat packing company called "Maverick Ranch Natural Meats," prompted by the unusual marbling characteristics of his special breed of Salers cattle. Over the years his company supplied free meat to US Olympic Training Centers. Roy was co-founder and 16-year Director of the American Salers Cattle breed.

Book National Cowboy Poetry Gathering

Download or read book National Cowboy Poetry Gathering written by Western Folklife Center and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is the granddaddy of all cowboy poetry events, proclaimed by the US Senate in 2000 in recognition of its pioneering role in the preservation and revitalization of this important American tradition. In conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the event, this commemorative volume collects 100 poems by various cowboy poets who have appeared at the gathering over the last three decades, from Baxter Black and Wallace McRae to Georgie Sicking and Paul Zarzyski. Representing the best contemporary cowboy poetry from the first gathering to the present, the poets and poems are culled for their importance and quality with consideration for a wide range of topics that represent the richness and depth of this broad genre. In addition to poems that will make you smile, sigh, or sit up straight in your saddle, the anthology features expressive photos of the contributors, biographical and explanatory headnotes, relevant artwork from the Western Folklife Center’s extensive archives, and illuminating sidebars on various topics such as working cattle; life on the land; the relationship between cowboy poetry and song; gear, horses, or cattle mentioned in poems; and profiles and photos of important cowboy poets from earlier times. Cowboy poet extraordinare Baxter Black will provide a foreword, and Charlie Seemann, executive director of the Western Folklife Center, will write an introduction that gives context both to the event itself and to cowboy poetry in general, from the days of the trail drives in the nineteenth century to the lives of the hardworking men and women who still ranch and live on the land in the West today.

Book excerpt: Poetry Americana "On that saddle he courted a pretty lady and she held him tight from behind its high back seat. They ran freely through the wild blue bonnets, they were in love and life was sweet. When they said "I do" they used it as a pillow underneath the twinkling prairie skies. They partnered up for life with a love that would never die." -The Saddle "Saturday mornings as a kid you'd find me in front of the old RCA. There were white hats on white horses with silver saddles to save the day. It was Roy and Gene who taught me to keep my room and my living clean. I guess you could say they taught me how to be a better human being." -Black and White "Les McDowell has a rare and wonderful talent; with these poems I am instantly transported back to a simpler time. From dogs chasing my family car down a gravel road, to my grandmother's flowered apron, Les helps me relive those vivid but too often forgotten memories." -KATIE COOK, Television Host/Nashville, Tennessee "Les McDowell has the soul of a cowboy and the heart of a poet. He writes about a way of life that is being crowded out as we rush to pave over paradise. But it will live on in memory and folklore thanks to cowboy poets like Les who remind us that the simple ways are the best. Here's hoping that all his future trials are happy ones." -Walt Belcher, Tampa Tribune "When Les put pen to paper it was more like poetry Americana, being that although it didn't always rhyme, it had a charm of rural wisdom and a keen observation on values from a less complicated time." -JOHN McEUEN, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
