This book was released on 2000-03-17 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A-Z guide to soil/plant/microbe-based wastewatertreatment Engineers and planners eager to benefit from the costefficiencies and convenience of land treatment of waste will find practical guidelines in this comprehensive manual. It covers soil hydraulics, vegetation selection, site selection, field investigations, preapplication treatment and storage, and transmission and distribution of wastewater. You're introduced to: Design procedures and appropriate uses for each of the three land treatment processes: soils, plants, and microbiological agents Special attributes of food processing wastewater, with 6 case studies The use of biosolids produced by mechanical treatment systems as crop nutrients Options for preapplication treatment, including ponds and constructed wetlands Much more

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although initially based purely on environmental principles of reuse and recycling, natural waste treatment systems proved to have economic advantages over mechanical systems in many cases, being less expensive to build and operate as well as requiring less energy. Thus, natural waste treatment methods reemerged even as advanced wastewater treatmen

Download or read book Water Reuse written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding water reuse-the use of treated wastewater for beneficial purposes including irrigation, industrial uses, and drinking water augmentation-could significantly increase the nation's total available water resources. Water Reuse presents a portfolio of treatment options available to mitigate water quality issues in reclaimed water along with new analysis suggesting that the risk of exposure to certain microbial and chemical contaminants from drinking reclaimed water does not appear to be any higher than the risk experienced in at least some current drinking water treatment systems, and may be orders of magnitude lower. This report recommends adjustments to the federal regulatory framework that could enhance public health protection for both planned and unplanned (or de facto) reuse and increase public confidence in water reuse.
