Adventure and romance together in high-speed pursuit of Happily Ever Afters throughout the universe. If you’ve been looking for love in all the wrong galaxies, find your alien mate with the Intergalactic Dating Agency! Mach One ~ Delta V ~ Big Bang ~ Theta On the outskirts of the Big Sky Intergalactic Dating Agency, the Cyborg Cowboys of Carbon County are rounding up earthly pleasures for their forever mates… Mach One Oversized Montana rancher Mach Halley’s very big Stetson and giant belt buckle are hiding a secret of cosmic proportions: He’s a CWBOI (Custom War Bionic/Organic Imperson). When his warship of cyborg warriors crashed on Earth 150 years ago, he kept the survivors alive and hidden. But with a dormant member of his unit about to be born, he needs a healer—even if the pretty little lady doc must forget everything she sees. Making a name for herself in rural veterinary medicine has been tough for Doctor Chien Lun-mei, so she takes a strange midnight call to prove her worth—only to discover a secret wilder than any bucking bronc. If she rants about UFOs and ETs, she’ll be laughed out of the county, but this strong, silent cowboy who feels even more out of place than she does touches her in more ways than one. Together they’ll fight to save an alien life, but for Mach to escape a war he never wanted, he’ll have to risk an alien love. Delta V Deltas were always the most expendable among the CWBOIs, and Delta V was fifth of nothing. But since the crash that left his troop marooned on Earth, Delta has found some small pleasures—soft dogs, sweet donuts, seducing the neighboring rancher. Wait, what? For the first time in her fifty years, Big Sky Country is feeling small and lonely to Montana rancher Lindy Minervudottir. With the five-year anniversary of her wife’s death looming, she’s not sure if the future matters. But then a futuristic fighter flies into her life. Earth is a small, blue marble in the vastness of space, and two needy hearts are smaller yet. But with an old enemy closing in, the world itself hangs in the balance. Big Bang It’s Christmas in Carbon County, and not a creature is stirring, not even a cyborg… In the matrix of genetically and cybernetically enhanced contract killers, he was the Omega—brought out only the last resort, the final answer, the end times. Cosmo is a time bomb forever set to 00:00:00:01. Vic Ray thought she was so smart. As a reformed black-hat hacker, she cracked every code—except the one that explains people. And then she found out about aliens. At least she doesn’t have to be nice to a killer robot like Cosmo to get what she wants: Off this world. When an old enemy and a new one join forces to expose the CWBOIs on Earth, Cosmo and Vic will have to figure out what it means to love before everything they know is lost forever. Can the Spirit of Christmas teach a deadly cyborg and a misanthrope to believe in a future together? Theta The Theta shroud designation was always meant to be an outsider—a spy and saboteur lurking on the fringes of the elite cyborg soldiers. So Troy Lehigh stayed apart from his brothers while they lived and loved. A Theta could never hope for such a bond. His only desire is to destroy the consortium that doomed him to solitude. But then, a hundred and fifty years ago, he met a sassy soiled dove in a Montana saloon… Nell Dearly had wandered too far from home and was struggling to survive. But the long-lost farm girl has no idea just how far out she’ll go. The cyborg cowboys of Carbon County have fought for each other, for love, and for Earth itself. But the consortium they escaped never stopped seeking them. Now every star they see from Big Sky Country is in danger, and only a lonely Theta and the saloon girl he kissed once upon a time might save us.

Download or read book The Improbable First Century of Cosmopolitan Magazine written by James Landers and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, monthly issues of Cosmopolitan magazine scream out to readers from checkout counters and newsstands. With bright covers and bold, sexy headlines, this famous periodical targets young, single women aspiring to become the quintessential “Cosmo girl.” Cosmopolitan is known for its vivacious character and frank, explicit attitude toward sex, yet because of its reputation, many people don’t realize that the magazine has undergone many incarnations before its current one, including family literary magazine and muckraking investigative journal, and all are presented in The Improbable First Century of Cosmopolitan Magazine. The book boasts one particularly impressive contributor: Helen Gurley Brown herself, who rarely grants interviews but spoke and corresponded with James Landers to aid in his research. When launched in 1886, Cosmopolitan was a family literary magazine that published quality fiction, children’s stories, and homemaking tips. In 1889 it was rescued from bankruptcy by wealthy entrepreneur John Brisben Walker, who introduced illustrations and attracted writers such as Mark Twain, Willa Cather, and H. G. Wells. Then, when newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst purchased Cosmopolitan in 1905, he turned it into a purveyor of exposé journalism to aid his personal political pursuits. But when Hearst abandoned those ambitions, he changed the magazine in the 1920s back to a fiction periodical featuring leading writers such as Theodore Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis, and William Somerset Maugham. His approach garnered success by the 1930s, but poor editing sunk Cosmo’s readership as decades went on. By the mid-1960s executives considered letting Cosmopolitan die, but Helen Gurley Brown, an ambitious and savvy businesswoman, submitted a plan for a dramatic editorial makeover. Gurley Brown took the helm and saved Cosmopolitan by publishing articles about topics other women’s magazines avoided. Twenty years later, when the magazine ended its first century, Cosmopolitan was the profit center of the Hearst Corporation and a culturally significant force in young women’s lives. The Improbable First Century of Cosmopolitan Magazine explores how Cosmopolitan survived three near-death experiences to become one of the most dynamic and successful magazines of the twentieth century. Landers uses a wealth of primary source materials to place this important magazine in the context of history and depict how it became the cultural touchstone it is today. This book will be of interest not only to modern Cosmo aficionadas but also to journalism students, news historians, and anyone interested in publishing.
