Mr. Quark is a down-on-his luck pot-smuggler hiding out in the mountains of Colombia with his dog, High Pockets, and a small band of banditos led by the irascible Jose. Only months before, these three and their fearless associates were rolling in millions in cash and high-grade marijuana, eluding prosecution on “ridiculously false” drug and terrorism charges. But times have quickly grown lean, and to liven up their exile, Jose decides to mug a family of American tourists. Among the spoils are physics texts, which launch Mr. Quark on a side-splitting, boisterous adventure north to California, where he confronts the owner of the books with his own theories on relativity, the nature of the universe, and looking for the meaning of life in all the wrong places….

Book Georgette s Apple Bivortex Theory of Everything A Grand Unified Theory of the Universe

Download or read book Georgette s Apple Bivortex Theory of Everything A Grand Unified Theory of the Universe written by George William Kelly and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-08-13 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George William Kelly wrote this collection of eight childrens stories over the lifetime of his daughter, Georgette. He named the heroines after her. By the time he published the collection, Georgette had reached the age of "sweet sixteen." Consequently, some of the stories aim at picture book readers and some at teenage readers. They reflect Georgettes growing older and older. The stories range from how Santa Christina (Mrs. Santa Claus) saved Christmas by helping Santa Claus deliver the Christmas toys, to how Georgette discovered there are 32 tooth pixies instead of one tooth fairy, to how Georgettes family developed the idea of a "grand unified theory of the universe" from apples in their kitchen fruit bowl. As a gift for Georgettes sixteenth birthday, Kelly combined his eight favorite stories into a print-on-demand paperback book (and an e-book) published by the Xlibris Corp. Like many childrens books, this one offers food for thought to adults as well as to children. It has no illustrations, but the author believes children will draw their own pictures. He hopes that some of the stories may be republished later as individual picture books. Georgettes Apple Bivortex Theory of Everything. "This story presents a model that shows how everything in the universe evolves," Kelly says. "Modern scientists have searched and searched for this model but have failed to see it. Great scientists like Rene Descartes, Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, James Clark Maxwell, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, and Niels Bohr circled close around this model, but even those giants failed to see it." Georgettes bivortex theory evolved over sixteen years. Georgette, her Mommy, and her Daddy were seeking one, single answer to a young girls unending questions about everything. Their amateur, commonsense approach led them further and further into the realms of astronomy, cosmology, mathematics, physics, and the history of science. Although they could not speak the various scientific "dialects," they could comprehend general scientific speculation about the universe. They could also ponder the detailed pictures of the universe provided by space-age astronomy. Just as a small child saw the real truth in the old fairy tale about the emperors new clothes, so Georgettes scientifically unsophisticated family saw in the apple-like shapes of certain space photographs a new model for a theory of everything: a grand unified theory of the universe. As far as the family knows, this model never occurred to the scientists who have striven to harmonize red shifts, the Big Bang, the expanding universe, black holes, wormholes, gravity, electromagetism, curved space, strings, branes, quantum, matter, antimatter, dark matter, wimps, strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, Bose-Einstein condensates, great walls, chaos theory, etc. Georgettes bivortex model takes the shape of an apple in the center of a large cloud of particles. It begins when two or more particles eddy around each other and form a tube. This rotating tube of particles sucks more and more cloud particles down the vortex at each end of the tube. The opposing helical streams of particles collide at the tubes center. The particles split, ricochet, and radiate outward to form an equatorial bulge and equatorial disk. Nearly all these particles are drawn back eventually toward the rotating tube. They rise in arched pathways northward and southward from the equatorial bulge and disk. Some return quickly to the walls of the tube. Others return leisurely via either the north pole vortex or the south pole vortex. The particles recycle along the lines of the bivortex field, just as iron filings follow the lines of a magnets electromagnetic field. At the extreme circumference of the disk, some particles leave the system altogether and radiate into space. Meanwhile, some particles pass the tubes center-point and follow the tubes axis in

Book excerpt: Other friends reacted differently to her decision to move to Los Angeles. But less dramatically! Kitten perceived negativism towards the United States of America of the Sixties. No one had said anything bad about her moving to Rome in the past. Aside from elders' backbiters' slanderous remarks about Kitten being pregnant, youngsters had praised her for her choice. This time, comments abounded as if she was heading for the moon. As if she were about to reach a point of no return. -"With this decision, you have ratted on your past!" declared a friend of hers she was particularly fond of. -"You have forsworn your ancestors. You have betrayed Paris!" said another. Amazingly enough, these deeply rooted bourgeois had admitted Kitten in their closed-in Parisian circle. In their minds, Rome had belonged to France once. Vogue Magazine was an extremely chic advocate of French fashion. Yet, at twenty-three, the girl-who was about to move on-had lived more years outside France! Outside Paris to be exact! It was as if her entourage knew nothing of her birthplace, her childhood stage, and her many school years abroad. Everyone was outraged by her eminent departure.

Download or read book Ad Astra An Illustrated Guide to Leaving the Planet written by Dallas Campbell and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I could have done with a copy of Ad Astra in December 2015!' –Tim Peake ‘A wonderful, wise and witty guide for space explorers everywhere.' – Richard Osman ‘A must read both for intrepid space explorers and misty-eyed dreamers. Now, to space!’ – Hannah Fry ‘Few people are more knowledgeable, celebratory and witty about space travel than Dallas Campbell.’ – Adam Rutherford Need some space? For almost all human history we’ve been firmly rooted to the Earth. And, sure, it's got some good things going for it: nice views, friendly inhabitants, good coffee. Air. But what if you want to get off? Whether you've got itchy feet and need a bit of a break, or you’re looking for a complete change of scene, this book has all the information you'll need to leave, with FREE expert advice from the men and woman who can actually make it happen. Do I need a passport? How do I know if I have the right stuff? Can I take my dog? What spacesuit do I need? Where am I going to go? What am I going to eat? As well as being a deeply impractical guide to getting off the planet, this is an eclectic and beautifully illustrated mix-tape of space travel stories – both real and imagined. From the migrating lunar geese that flew us to the moon in the 1600’s, to Elon Musk’s wild plan to get humans to Mars en masse in the future; from the history of early rocket science to the Soviet tortoises that secretly won the space race. A collection for anyone who has looked up in wonder at the stars... And then wondered how to get there. ‘The next best thing to actually heading off into space.’ – Jim Al-Khalili ‘Few people are more knowledgeable, celebratory and witty about space travel than Dallas Campbell.’ – Adam Rutherford ‘If, like me, you dream of going into space, this is definitely the place to start the journey.’ – Dan Snow ‘A must have volume for astronauts and armchair astronauts alike.’ – Helen Sharman OBE ‘Funny, factual and beautiful.’ – Shaun Keavney ‘Read it, make notes, and be ready when the day comes.’ – Helen Czerski

Book excerpt: This book collects the posts of a blog that Chris Clarke maintained from summer 2016 until his death in March 2019, in which he set out to explore the themes of 'Wisdom' and 'Isness'. What he meant by 'isness' is the theme that is expanded throughout the book, but a thing's isness is the essence of what it is for itself. As his health failed, what became very profound about these reflections is the way he reflected on each moment and experience for itself, searching deeply for the isness of each moment with no quest for a connecting narrative.
