Book excerpt: “I am dirty. Dirtier than a piccola principessa like you could ever handle, so don’t touch me unless you’re ready to get filthy. Capisci, little girl?” Serenity Vivaldi I’ve hit an all-time low, secretly lusting after my sister’s soon-to-be fiancé. Nico Russo, the most ruthless and powerful mafia don in New York City, is too cold, dangerous, and violent for my tastes, but that doesn’t stop my body from heating every time he glares at me. He's made it perfectly clear he hates me, so when he agrees to marry me instead of my sister, there can only be one reason he accepts. The wickedly handsome, sinfully tattooed kingpin wants to hurt me. Break me. Own me. Nico Russo As the second daughter of Matteo Vivaldi, the only man in NYC whose power rivals mine, Serenity Vivaldi grew from a shy little girl hiding behind her books to a stunning, carnal temptation, but she’s still frustratingly off limits. Until tragedy strikes her sister and her parents offer me Serenity’s hand in marriage as a replacement. I snatch her up, ready to slake my lust for the curvy little mafia princess, but she steals my hardened heart and becomes my biggest weakness. Now that Serenity is mine, no one will ever hurt her again. Not her abusive parents, the gangs trespassing on my turf, or the mastermind behind an even bigger, deadlier game. Serenity Vivaldi is mine, and if I have to burn down the entire city to protect her, I will. Corrupt Vows (Vicious Mafia Kings Book 1) is a super spicy age gap dark mafia arranged marriage romance with a jealous/possessive hero, a strong, competent female lead, and a deliciously dirty battle of wills. This story is intended for 18+ readers and includes mature content such as graphic violence, profanity, pregnancy, and other adult themes. Can be read as a standalone. HEA guaranteed.

Book Machik s Complete Explanation

Download or read book Machik s Complete Explanation written by Sarah Harding and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fear, anger, and negativity are states that each of us have to contend with. Machik's Complete Explanation, the most famous book of the teachings of Machik Lapdrön, the great female saint and yogini of eleventh- to twelfth-century Tibet, addresses these issues in a practical, direct way. Machik developed a system, the Mahamudra Chöd, that takes the Buddha's teachings as a basis and applies them to the immediate experiences of negative mind states and malignant forces. Her unique feminine approach is to invoke and nurture the very "demons" that we fear and hate, transforming those reactive emotions into love. It is the tantric version of developing compassion and fearlessness, a radical method of cutting through ego-fixation. This expanded edition includes Machik Lapdrön's earliest known teaching, the original source text for the tradition, The Great Bundle of Precepts on Severance (Chöd). This pithy set of instructions reveals that the teachings of the perfection of wisdom are the true inspiration for Chöd. It is beautifully clarified in a short commentary by Rangjung Dorje, the Third Karmapa.

Book Sworn Bond in Tudor England

Download or read book Sworn Bond in Tudor England written by Thea Cervone and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The swearing of oaths is a cultural phenomenon that pervades English history and was remarkably important during the sixteenth century. This multi-disciplinary work explores how writers of the Tudor era addressed the subject in response to the profound changes of the Reformation and the creative explosion of the Elizabethan period. Topics include how the art of rhetoric was deployed in polemic, the way in which oaths formed bonds between Church and State, and how oaths functioned in literature, as ceremony and as a language England used to describe itself during times of radical change.

Book The Augsburg Confession

    Book Details:
  • Author : Timothy J. Wengert
  • Publisher : Fortress Press
  • Release : 2020-09-01
  • ISBN : 1506432956
  • Pages : 366 pages

Download or read book The Augsburg Confession written by Timothy J. Wengert and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Augsburg Confession is the single most-important confession of faith among Lutherans today. However, it is often taught either from a historical perspective or from a dogmatic one. Yet the context out of which it arose was far more practical and lively: marked from the outset as confessions of faith in the face of fierce opposition and threats. The original princely signers, while clearly outlining the teaching of their churches, were also staking their lives on the witness to the gospel that had been emanating from Wittenberg since 1517, when Martin Luther first published his Ninety-Five Theses. By situating both the history and the theology of this document within the practice and life of faith, Timothy J. Wengert shows just how relevant the Confession's witness is for today's Lutheran parishes and their leaders by unlocking how its articles can shape and strengthen the church's witness today.

Book A Corrupt Tree An Encyclopaedia of Crimes committed by the Church of Rome against Humanity and the Human Spirit

Download or read book A Corrupt Tree An Encyclopaedia of Crimes committed by the Church of Rome against Humanity and the Human Spirit written by A.S. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-01-13 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘A Corrupt Tree’ is a unique, extensively researched, four volume exposé of the dark side of the Church of Rome. It reveals that for nearly two thousand years the Church’s fundamental characteristic has been its self-serving abuse of religio-corporate power. A large proportion of this first volume provides a detailed catalogue of the multitude of unholy popes. Included, are those who were immature, capricious, corrupt, lascivious, fanatical, senile, truly mad, megalomanic, tyrannical, murderous, and wholesale killers. It confirms that for many, many centuries the popes were corrupt, cruel, inhumane, and despotic. In an age of savagery they were the leaders in barbarity; in the subsequent age of enlightenment they have persistently resisted the march of progress. Additionally, the popes were wholesale killers who ‘made the principle of assassination a law of the Christian Church.’ Accordingly, the Church ‘has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind.’ Here also are presented the cupidity, corruption, and sexual misconducts of lesser ecclesiastics, including cardinals, bishops, priests, monks and nuns. Pope Honorius III, for example, described his priests as ‘worse than beasts wallowing in their dung.’ The Church’s ruthless stranglehold on knowledge and learning is catalogued in detail. Mathematics, philosophy and science were repressed. Selected, applied theology ruled the world. ‘Everything was explained, but nothing was understood.’ The chapters on censorship reveal that even works of considerable literary or philosophical merit did not escape. A large number of writings which eventually became classics of European culture were condemned and prohibited. The Church also exhibited a vitriolic hatred of those who translated the Bible into the vernacular. Many of these men were annihilated. Holy books were burned in large numbers ‒ particularly the Jewish Talmud. It is clearly demonstrated that the Church held back civilisation for over fifteen hundred years. ‘Century after century passed away, and left the peasantry but little better than the cattle in the fields.’ Finally, the unholy behaviours of the numerous popes, cardinals, and lesser ecclesiastics are shown to establish, unequivocally, that the Church of Rome is neither holy nor apostolic. The ultimate message of these volumes is that to become an exemplary institution, and to play a truly humane role in the world’s future, the Catholic Church must change.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption undermines nearly all key legal and developmental priorities today, including the effective functioning of democratic institutions and honest elections; environmental protection; human rights and human security; international development programs; and fair competition for global trade and investment. This book chronicles the global anticorruption steps taken since the movement advanced after the end of the Cold War. It provides a realistic assessment of the present state of affairs by critically evaluating what existing anticorruption programs and treaties have accomplished and documenting their shortcomings, while developing an action agenda for the next decade. The authors argue that reformative action is imperative, and the forces of globalization and digital communication will level the playing field and erode the secrecy corruption requires. They define corruption, document its effects, discuss the initiatives that changed public perception, analyze the lessons learned, and then evaluate how to move forward with existing initiatives charting a new path with new, differentiated strategies.
