Download or read book Business Models and Corporate Reporting written by Lorenzo Simoni and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-19 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the role of business models in corporate reporting. It illustrates the evolution of non-financial reporting, the importance of business model reporting, and the main conceptualisations of business models. It also offers a methodological contribution to the assessment of business model reporting. Finally, it discusses the main implication of business model reporting for different categories of subjects and some challenges related to this kind of disclosure. Readers will understand the role of business models in the non-financial reporting landscape. They will also gain an understanding of how business models can help users of the annual report contextualise other non-financial items disclosed. However, effective business model reporting implies paying attention to certain features that define its quality. This theme is discussed in the empirical part of the book and in the section devoted to implications for preparers, users, and regulators. As large companies in the EU and the UK have to disclose the business model in the annual report, this book will be of interest to preparers and users of financial statements, regulators involved in the ongoing non-financial regulatory process, and professional bodies. It will also be of interest to academics interested in the investigation of non-financial reporting.

Download or read book Organizational Change and Global Standardization written by David M. Boje and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Change and Global Standardization: Solutions to Standards and Norms Overwhelming Organizations takes an organizational change approach to the overflow of standards and norms, looking at how to deal effectively and ethically with four kinds of standards and norms businesses face when they go global: (1) accounting & finance (2) international & world trade,(3) social and (4) safety & quality & environment. It is part of a larger problem faced by not only business, but every sort of organization - how to live with the epidemic of standards and norms, often in conflict, many just unnecessary, and a few that are quite helpful and important. There are good reasons to have International Standards Organization (ISO), International Labor Organization (ILO), World Trade Organization (WTO), North Atlantic Treaty Association (NAFTA), International accounting Standards Boards (IASB), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)), and many more standard-setting organizations issuing, auditing, proposing codes of ethics, and certifying standards and norms. However, there are important, poorly understood organizational change consequences to the contagion of standards and norms. This volume brings together a unique group of authors who are working on a pragmatic way for organizations to deal with an overflow of standards and norms that are often at heads, ambiguous, or simply created to produce more work for a burgeoning standards setting industry. The aim of Organizational Change and Global Standardization is to stimulate a critical analysis within the framework of analytical and pragmatic approach to an overwhelming bureaucratization of the managed and organized global activities.

Voluntary Disclosure of Company Information Costly Additions or a step towards Competitive Advantage
Download or read book Voluntary Disclosure of Company Information Costly Additions or a step towards Competitive Advantage written by Patrick Roy and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2001-12-12 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: In a first step, this ERP derives the theoretical necessity to provide voluntary strategic and non-financial Information. It is argued that companies are an integral part of a common environment and society, acting in a framework of interdependent relationships. A company is more and more seen as a community of interests of different groups, and it can only act in an optimal way if the demands of all groups are taken into account and its behaviour is adjusted accordingly. In this context, interest groups' demands for company Information depend an the possibilities of improvements in decision making or monitoring that arise with its use, which in turn is mainly determined by the potential of Information to reduce uncertainty in the areas of interest. For external decision-makers, uncertainty often arises from sources about which conservative company statements provide little insight. Due to the traditional, finance-oriented concept of disclosure, this is particularly true for strategic and non-financial aspects. Related additional Information that is voluntarily provided can considerably reduce uncertainty, even more so as part of audited statements. Conventional financial reporting and existing disclosure requirements will generally not nearly satisfy those information needs of user groups. Any economic action, though, should only be taken if related benefits are exceeding related costs. This priority of economicalness also holds for companies' production, processing and disclosure of Information. Therefore, it is necessary to consider as detailed as possible potential opportunities and disadvantages for voluntarily disclosing company Information both an and outside capital markets. This is done in a second major part of the present work. First, voluntary disclosure can potentially affect share prices and thereby the market value of the firm, markets not being strong-form efficient. So, by giving company Information, a higher market value can directly be induced, thereby potentially lowering the cost of capital which, for example, improves the company's competitive position in the battle for cheap additional financing. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's aggressive marketplace, listed companies can no longer rely on their numbers to do the talking. If companies can't communicate their achievements and strategy, mounting research evidence suggests, they will be overlooked, their cost of capital will increase and stock price will suffer. In Strategic Financial and Investor Communication: the stock price story Ian Westbrook, principal of Australia's leading independent financial communications firm, argues just this: stock price is more a story than a number. Moreover, the book will teach you how to tell your own story by guiding you through the fast-paced world of financial corporate communication with a professional's pragmatism as well as academic rigour. Whether you're a student or a professional of PR, investor relations or corporate communications, this much-needed guide will teach you how to tell a compelling story about your company that the stockbroker, fund manager and corporate media cannot ignore.
