Book Becoming Knowledge Focused

Download or read book Becoming Knowledge Focused written by Ugochukwu N. Ugbor and published by Ugochukwu Ugbor. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adopting a pragmatic bottom-up approach, this book explores the knowledge in international organizations and the dynamic interactions between stakeholders. It also proposes taxonomy and practical tools to classify the various knowledge products and to contextualize knowledge initiatives in international organizations. This book is expected to help international organizations develop a more comprehensive understanding of the process of becoming knowledge focused, and how KM can address their situation, while taking advantage of investments in KM systems. Knowledge audits in the form of interviews, developed as part of the study, helped understand contextual issues facing the international organizations and the strategic KM systems proposed and implemented. The result is a novel, and comprehensive discussion about managing knowledge in international knowledge-intensive organizations, suitable for graduate-level students and international organizations alike.

In combination with the two previous volumes of the same title, the book offers an up-to-date, comprehensive, representative overview focusing on main issues in teaching in the relatively new field of translation. There are informed and incisive discussions of subtitling, interpreting and translation, spanning from its historical beginnings to presentations of machine translation and predictions of the future of translation work. Contributions ranging from discussions on the interplay between theory and teaching, teaching literary translation, introducing students to central issues in translation practice, and historical and social issues in teaching translation.

Book Handbook of Force Transducers

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dan Mihai Stefanescu
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Download or read book Handbook of Force Transducers written by Dan Mihai Stefanescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-16 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I introduces the basic "Principles and Methods of Force Measurement" according to a classification into a dozen of force transducers types: resistive, inductive, capacitive, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, electrodynamic, magnetoelastic, galvanomagnetic (Hall-effect), vibrating wires, (micro)resonators, acoustic and gyroscopic. Two special chapters refer to force balance techniques and to combined methods in force measurement. Part II discusses the "(Strain Gauge) Force Transducers Components", evolving from the classical force transducer to the digital / intelligent one, with the incorporation of three subsystems (sensors, electromechanics and informatics). The elastic element (EE) is the "heart" of the force transducer and basically determines its performance. A 12-type elastic element classification is proposed (stretched / compressed column or tube, bending beam, bending and/or torsion shaft, middle bent bar with fixed ends, shear beam, bending ring, yoke or frame, diaphragm, axial-stressed torus, axisymmetrical and voluminous EE), with emphasis on the optimum location of the strain gauges. The main properties of the associated Wheatstone bridge, best suited for the parametrical transducers, are examined, together with the appropriate electronic circuits for SGFTs. The handbook fills a gap in the field of Force Measurement, both experts and newcomers, no matter of their particular interest, finding a lot of useful and valuable subjects in the area of Force Transducers; in fact, it is the first specialized monograph in this inter- and multidisciplinary field.

Download or read book Information Society written by Karamjit S. Gill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human-centredness: A Challenge to Post-industrial Europe? The key power in industrial society has been linked to the possession of capital and factory. In the "information society" it could be rather different. If one accepts that that the key power in the information society will be linked not so much to the ownership of information but to human creativity nourished by that information, the productive force of today and tomorrow, could be more and more the human brain. Making use of one's intelligence is always accompanied by positive emotion, which in turn further activates the intelligence. But, unfortunately, under present conditions workers of all levels live in fear, anxiety and stress rather than desire and motivation. The question of "basic human ecology" (quality of life) is, therefore, a major strategic factor. It is precisely the opposite to the mechanisms of exclusion that currently dominate our society: exclusion of young people through joblessness - but also exclusion through technology, as with the helplessness of older people or the poorly educated confronted with ticket dispensing machines or other automats. This is not idle theorizing, it corresponds to concrete facts. It is, for example, how some observers interpret the crisis at IBM. Because its programs were less 'human-friendly', it was shaken to its foundations by Apple and Microsof- though it seems since to have learnt its lesson.
