Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A consensus has recently emerged among academics and policymakers that US copyright law has fallen out of balance. Lawmakers have responded by taking up proposals to reform the Copyright Act. But how should they proceed? This book offers a new and insightful view of copyright, marking the path toward a world less encumbered by legal restrictions and yet richer in art, music, and other expressive works. Two opposing viewpoints have driven the debate over copyright policy. One side questions copyright for the same reasons it questions all restraints on freedoms of expression, and dismisses copyright, like other forms of property, as a mere plaything of political forces. The opposing side regards copyrights as property rights that deserve—like rights in houses, cars, and other forms of property—the fullest protection of the law. Each of these viewpoints defends important truths. Both fail, however, to capture the essence of copyright. In Intellectual Privilege, Tom W. Bell reveals copyright as a statutory privilege that threatens our natural and constitutional rights. From this fresh perspective come fresh solutions to copyright’s problems. Published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide advanced undergraduate and graduate students with a comprehensive review and analysis of the legal, ethical and regulatory environments, both national and international, that relate to businesses and the Internet. Topics covered in the book include American constitutional law, as well European, primarily French, law on the subjects of contracts, courts, criminal law, freedom of expression, intellectual property, privacy and torts. The coverage of French law as a comparison to American law is because of its influence throughout the world. Although the Napoleonic Code was not the first code to be introduced, it has, according to reputed sources, been far more influential in the development of codes throughout the world, than any other. The laws and regulations addressed apply to all employees working at all levels of a business, and it covers contracts, sales, government relations, regulatory/legal compliance, and engineering, among others.

Download or read book The Internationalisation of Copyright Law written by Catherine Seville and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-23 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological developments have shaped copyright law's development, and now the prospect of endless, effortless digital copying poses a significant challenge to modern copyright law. Many complain that copyright protection has burgeoned wildly, far beyond its original boundaries. Some have questioned whether copyright can survive the digital age. From a historical perspective, however, many of these 'new' challenges are simply fresh presentations of familiar dilemmas. This book explores the history of international copyright law, and looks at how this history is relevant today. It focuses on international copyright during the nineteenth century, as it affected Europe, the British colonies (particularly Canada), America, and the UK. As we consider the reform of modern copyright law, nineteenth-century experiences offer highly relevant empirical evidence. Copyright law has proved itself robust and flexible over several centuries. If directed with vision, Seville argues, it can negotiate cyberspace.
