Book Freshwater Crustacean Zooplankton of Europe

Download or read book Freshwater Crustacean Zooplankton of Europe written by Leszek A. Bledzki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-20 with total page 923 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides a user-friendly, species level taxonomic key based on morphology, current nomenclature, and modern taxonomy using molecular tools which fulfill the most pressing needs of both researchers and environmental managers. This key arms the reader with the tools necessary to improve their species identification abilities. This book resolves another issue as well: the mix of female and male characters used in keys to the calanoid copepods. Often, during the identification process, both calanoid copepod sexes are not available, and the user of such a key is stuck with an uncertain identification. Here, separate male and female keys to the calanoid copepods are provided for both the genera and species levels.

Book Marine Interstitial Poecilostomatoida and Cyclopoida Copepoda of Australia

Download or read book Marine Interstitial Poecilostomatoida and Cyclopoida Copepoda of Australia written by Tomislav Karanovic and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-06-04 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prime function of the interstitial system is the processing of organic material flushed into the sand. It functions as a carbon sink, which has significant implications in this age, in which we are trying to fight carbon levels in the atmosphere. Copepods are top predators here and thus crucially important. This book presents the first data about cyclopoid and poecilostomatoid copepods from the Australian marine interstitial. It includes one new cyclopoid family, the second record of the poecilostomatoid family Polyankyaliidae, one new genus, and 21 new species. A zoogeographic analysis of the copepods recorded emphasizes the importance of looking at small-scale patterns when inferring Gondwanaland biogeography, and a number of distinct zoogeographic regions is now becoming apparent in Australia.

Book Ecology and Morphology of Copepods

Download or read book Ecology and Morphology of Copepods written by Frank D. Ferrari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecology and Morphology of Copepods is organized under the following general topics: Behavior, Feeding, Genetics, Horizontal Variations, Morphology, Phylogeny, Reproduction, Seasonal Changes, Vertical Distribution, plus two special sessions on copepods of the genus Acartia and cyclopid/mosquito interactions. The Maxilliped Lecture, given by Dr. Arthur G. Humes of Boston University, clearly established the importance of copepods to the earth's organic diversity. The book consists of selected research articles from the different sections. The articles published here reflect the diverse research interests of copepodologists today, and are distinguished by their high quality. Their impact will ensure that this volume is consulted by a wide range of research biologists.

Book Subterranean Copepoda from Arid Western Australia

Download or read book Subterranean Copepoda from Arid Western Australia written by Tomislav Karanovich and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2004-02-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though the subterranean waters are among the most fragile and threatened ecosystems, and are also considered to be rich in biodiversity, there is very little information even on their total biological diversity. Presenting one group of small crustaceans, this book shows how rich and complex subterranean systems may be even in Australian desert regions. This is the first comprehensive study of the subterranean copepods from Australia. It contains descriptions of five new genera and 24 new species. Many representatives of this unique fauna are of ancient origin, dating as far back as Jurassic. Because many questions of the copepod invasions of the freshwater, and their connections with the main climatic changes are addressed, this book will also be useful for a much broader scientific audience.
