Book Cooperative Performance

Download or read book Cooperative Performance written by Hung-hsin Chen and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological cooperation is not only costly and time consuming, but also has a high attrition rate. Most literature on strategic cooperation focuses mainly on issues related to cooperation formation and the reasons why firms form these cooperative partnerships. However, a successfully formed cooperation is not always managed well enough to achieve a satisfactory performance. The knowledge of cooperative formation is necessary, but insufficient to achieve a satisfactory performance. The literature suggests that scholars know little about the underlying factors affecting cooperative performance. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to establish the possible effects of key factors on the performance of international technological cooperation, and the possible relations between key factors. A qualitative pilot study was implemented to verify the practical relevance of those 12 key factors, of which 6 factors have a relatively more significant effect on performance than the other 6 factors. By applying theoretical modeling techniques, the research framework was then constructed according to the postulated relations between 7 key factors (6 relatively more significant factors and the focal concept, performance). Strictly based on the definition of key factors, measurement items of each key factor were carefully reviewed and selected. Following the process of structural equation modeling, the structural equation model in this research was constructed. Unlike most previous cooperation studies, a structural equation model allows researchers to examine simultaneously all the relations amongst key factors. The data were collected from mangers who had experience in managing a technological cooperative project with foreign partners, and were then analyzed by LISREL, a longstanding and widely distributed structural equation modeling computer program. The result suggests that symmetric opinions, commitment, dependence, relationships, partner analyses, and rewards have effects on the performance of international technological cooperation, which confirms the results of the thorough and comprehensive literature review and of the qualitative pilot study. In addition, in the structural equation model of this research, relationships and rewards have effects on commitment, and partner analyses and rewards have effects on dependence, which are also consistent with the literature review. The findings have contributed to theory advancement in cooperation studies, and to the knowledge of international business. Managerial implications from the findings also provide advices, which managers can proactively take, to avoid the odds of success.

Book Intellectual Capital and Organizational Performance

Download or read book Intellectual Capital and Organizational Performance written by Francesca Sgrò and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides empirical evidence on the relationship between intellectual capital (IC) and organizational performance of social cooperative enterprises (SCEs) that work in the non-profit sector. The author presents a survey of a sample of SCEs located in Italy to identify the main components of IC for SCEs and to investigate the effect of IC sub-dimensions on a firm's performance. The book thus presents new empirical evidence on IC in non-profit organizations along with a revelation of the main value drivers by using the survey method as an IC measurement tool combined with a principal components analysis. Finally, considering the difficulties related to the data gathering process in the non-profit sector and in measuring intangible assets, this book helps in increasing the understanding of IC features with a focus on the hybrid organization as SCEs.

This book was released on 2014-11-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compared with conventional communications, cooperative communication allows multiple users in a wireless network to coordinate their packet transmissions and share each other's resources, thus achieving high-performance gain and better service coverage and reliability. Energy Efficient Cooperative Wireless Communication and Networks provides a comprehensive look at energy efficiency and system design of cooperative wireless communication. Introducing effective cooperative wireless communication schemes, the book supplies the understanding and methods required to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and end-to-end protocol designs for wireless communication systems. It explains the practical benefits and limitations of cooperative transmissions along with the associated designs of upper-layer protocols, including MAC, routing, and transport protocol. The book considers power efficiency as a main objective in cooperative communication to ensure quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. It explains how to bring the performance gain at the physical layer up to the network layer and how to allocate network resources dynamically through MAC/scheduling and routing to trade off the performance benefits of given transmissions against network costs. Because the techniques detailed in each chapter can help readers achieve energy efficiency and reliability in wireless networks, they have the potential to impact a range of industry areas, including wireless communication, wireless sensor networks, and ad hoc networks. The book includes numerous examples, best practices, and models that capture key issues in real-world applications. Along with algorithms and tips for effective design, the book supplies the understanding you will need to achieve high-performing and energy efficient wireless networks with improved service coverage and reliability.

Book Measuring the Performance of Agricultural Cooperatives

Download or read book Measuring the Performance of Agricultural Cooperatives written by United States Agriculture and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-04-28 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The task of measuring the financial performance of cooperatives is made problematic by the attributes of the cooperative form of business. Most of the commonly used financial measures give an incomplete picture of a cooperative's performance. However, the extra value approach used in this report enables a cooperative's use of member-supplied funds to be fully measured-whether member capital is earning more, or less, than it could in alternative investments. The value a cooperative generates over and above its expenses, including an opportunity cost for its equity capital, is termed "extra value." A positive extra value indicates that a cooperative has created value by its operations, while a negative extra value means that a cooperative has actually diminished the value of members' investment. Extra value is measured by subtracting an interest charge on equity capital from net savings. Three different interest rates are used for the charge on equity. The December average British Banker's Association's London Inter-Bank Offered Rate (Libor) plus 200 basis points provides the basic reference rate. This Libor + 2 "basic" rate represents the commonly held opinion that banks in the United States will generally extend loans to a firm with a better-than-average credit rating, at an interest rate of about 200 basis points above the Libor. Extra value was also calculated at two higher rates, the basic rate plus 5 percentage points and the basic rate plus 10 percentage points, to reflect a range of risk premiums because investors consider equity investment riskier than debt. For comparisons over time and among different types of cooperatives, extra value is expressed as a percentage of operating capital. This common-sized index is thus scale- and operating mode-neutral. Extra value was calculated for 65 cooperatives that had been on USDA's top 100 cooperatives (based on revenue) list for at least 4 years in each of two 5-year time periods-1992 through 1996 and 2000 through 2004. Looking at these two time periods allows for an examination of how cooperative performance progressed over time. Additionally, averaging over multiple years should have helped minimize the impact of extraordinary factors on results.

Book Analysis of Cooperative Performance and Members Participation

Download or read book Analysis of Cooperative Performance and Members Participation written by Asmamaw Teshamahu Wassie and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book provides information for policy maker to design strategies that enhance cooperative members participation and improvement of financial conditions. The ratio analysis of financial performance of the cooperative under study use three methods: liquidity(current ratio), financial leverage management analysis (debt/asset ratio) and profitability ratio. The current ratio analysis result of the study shows the business is liquid; nevertheless the leave rage management analysis of debt/asset ratio results show the proportion of its asset financed by creditors is at its higher rate. The result of the profitability analysis shows the financial performance of the cooperative is improving. The study also employed Heckman two stages model to analyze members decision and intensity/level of participation with their cooperative. The first stage is the likelihood members decision. The second stage is the OLS estimation determinants the sales intensity: p(xi) = 0.112X1 + 0.433X2 + 0.838X3 + 2.423X4 + 2.194X5 + 1.040X6. This in turn empowers cooperative members' to claim their right in return surplus/ dividend in proportion to their participation.
