Book excerpt: Extreme Brownies is a collection of 50 wildly creative, extensively tested recipes from pastry chef and restaurant consultant Connie Weis, owner of brownie business Brownies & S'more in Virginia Beach, VA. Connie believes that brownies can't just look great, they have to taste great and have the right texture, making them above all, calorie-worthy. Pastry chef techniques and flavors are incorporated into detailed easy-to-follow recipes, elevating brownies and blondies into baked goods that could easily be morphed into high-end restaurant desserts, as she has done many times. Because Connie is such a precise and careful baker, the recipes in this scrumptious book make it possible for home bakers to reproduce without difficulty brownies such as her best-selling Caramel-Stuffed Sea Salt Brownies, her signature "PMS" Brownies, and many others, including Spotted Cow Brownies, Black Walnut Fudge Frosted Brownies, Espresso Cacao Nib Coffee Marshmallow Brownies, Holy Heavenly Hash Brownies, S'more Galore Brownies, Harlequin Truffle Brownies, Raspberry Ripple Cheesecake Brownies, Triple Blueberry White Chocolate Blondies, Lemon Mascarpone Blondies, and many others. Download or read book Three Many Cooks written by Pam Anderson and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the women behind the popular blog Three Many Cooks gather in the busiest room in the house, there are never too many cooks in the kitchen. Now acclaimed cookbook author Pam Anderson and her daughters, Maggy Keet and Sharon Damelio, blend compelling reflections and well-loved recipes into one funny, candid, and irresistible book. Together, Pam, Maggy, and Sharon reveal the challenging give-and-take between mothers and daughters, the passionate belief that food nourishes both body and soul, and the simple wonder that arises from good meals shared. Pam chronicles her epicurean journey, beginning at the apron hems of her grandmother and mother, and recounts how a cultural exchange to Provence led to twenty-five years of food and friendship. Firstborn Maggy rebelled against the family’s culinary ways but eventually found her inner chef as a newlywed faced with the terrifying reality of cooking dinner every night. Younger daughter Sharon fell in love with food by helping her mother work, lending her searing opinions and elbow grease to the grueling process of testing recipes for Pam’s bestselling cookbooks. Three Many Cooks ladles out the highs and lows, the kitchen disasters and culinary triumphs, the bitter fights and lasting love. Of course, these stories would not be complete without a selection of treasured recipes that nurtured relationships, ended feuds, and expanded repertoires, recipes that evoke forgiveness, memory, passion, and perseverance: Pumpkin-Walnut Scones, baked by dueling sisters; Grilled Lemon Chicken, made legendary by Pam’s father at every backyard cookout; Chicken Vindaloo that Maggy whipped up in a boat galley in the Caribbean; Carrot Cake obsessively perfected by Sharon for the wedding of friends; and many more. Sometimes irreverent, often moving, always honest, this collection illustrates three women’s individual and shared search for a faith that confirms what they know to be true: The divine is often found hovering not over an altar but around the stove and kitchen table. So hop on a bar stool at the kitchen island and join them to commiserate, laugh, and, of course, eat! Praise for Three Many Cooks “This beautiful book is a stirring, candid, powerful celebration of mothers, daughters, and sisters, and of family, food, and faith. The stories are relatable and real, and are woven perfectly with the time-tested, mouthwatering recipes. I loved every page, every word, and am adding this to the very small pile of books in my life that I know I’ll pick up and read again and again.”—Ree Drummond, New York Times bestselling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks

Download or read book The Just Kitchen written by Derrick Weston and published by Broadleaf Books . This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Join the call of a just kitchen: where meal preparation is as much an act of resistance against injustice as marches and protests. For food and faith writers and podcasters Derrick Weston and Anna Woofenden, The Just Kitchen is about a passion for food, sharing meals, showing hospitality, and understanding cultures, faith traditions, food histories, and local foodways. Their authentic podcast conversations spill over the pages of this book and explore how the kitchen can be a place where the things we care about most in the world are reflected in the foods we prepare and the way we prepare them. In a world where disconnection from the earth, our food, our faith, and each other is becoming the norm, Weston and Woofenden bring together voices of hope who are working for a world of organic reconnections. They invite us to dig deeply into the complexity of ecology and food systems, as well as how faith communities are connected to them. This is an invitation to reprioritize the kitchen as a space for healing, community, activism, and celebration. Be inspired to see the sacred in the daily mundane, forge connection with the people and earth around you, and join the call of a just kitchen.
Download or read book Cheffes de Cuisine written by Rachel E. Black and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though women enter France’s culinary professions at higher rates than ever, men still receive the lion’s share of the major awards and Michelin stars. Rachel E. Black looks at the experiences of women in Lyon to examine issues of gender inequality in France’s culinary industry. Known for its female-led kitchens, Lyon provides a unique setting for understanding the gender divide, as Lyonnais women have played a major role in maintaining the city’s culinary heritage and its status as a center for innovation. Voices from history combine with present-day interviews and participant observation to reveal the strategies women use to navigate male-dominated workplaces or, in many cases, avoid men in kitchens altogether. Black also charts how constraints imposed by French culture minimize the impact of #MeToo and other reform-minded movements. Evocative and original, Cheffes de Cuisine celebrates the successes of women inside the professional French kitchen and reveals the obstacles women face in the culinary industry and other male-dominated professions.

Download or read book Connie s Dreams written by Beverly Manconi and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-07 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A heart beats very loud in Connie's room, but it isn't her own. As the clock strikes twelve, the heartbeat gets louder and faster. The walls appear to be respirating to the beat. Something in Connie's room is coming to life. Then Connie stirred in her sleep. She is awakened by the heartbeat. "Who's there, who is it"? Asked Connie as she awakes from her last dream. Connie jumped up and ran to the closet. She tried to open the door, but it had been locked for years. She listened at the door. She could hear a small voice whispering, "let me out, I can't breath, let me out". The voice was of a young child. It sounded very much like her own voice. Connie was determined to find out who was inside of her closet. The very closet her father begged her not to tamper with. "Who are you? Who's there"? Connie felt ridiculous talking to a blank door. But she had some relief when she heard a response. "I am Einnoc, I am Einnoc, let me out". Here I have Connie's story of dreams. She is a dreamer whose dreams come true.

Clever, sometimes funny, morbid and at times racy. You'll find all of this in Kaaron Warren's work.
