Book Impact Networks

Download or read book Impact Networks written by David Ehrlichman and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical guide shows how to facilitate collaboration among diverse individuals and organizations to navigate complexity and create change in our interconnected world. The social and environmental challenges we face today are not only complex, they are also systemic and structural and have no obvious solutions. They require diverse combinations of people, organizations, and sectors to coordinate actions and work together even when the way forward is unclear. Even so, collaborative efforts often fail because they attempt to navigate complexity with traditional strategic plans, created by hierarchies that ignore the way people naturally connect. By embracing a living-systems approach to organizing, impact networks bring people together to build relationships across boundaries; leverage the existing work, skills, and motivations of the group; and make progress amid unpredictable and ever-changing conditions. As a powerful and flexible organizing system that can span regions, organizations, and silos of all kinds, impact networks underlie some of the most impressive and large-scale efforts to create change across the globe. David Ehrlichman draws on his experience as a network builder; interviews with dozens of network leaders; and insights from the fields of network science, community building, and systems thinking to provide a clear process for creating and developing impact networks. Given the increasing complexity of our society and the issues we face, our ability to form, grow, and work through networks has never been more essential.

Download or read book Converge written by Bob W. Lord and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bob Lord and Ray Velez of Razorfish - the all-media, cutting-edge advertising agency - offer a clear description of the effects of today's collision of marketing and technology. They explain the challenges and opportunities inherent in a transformed world of business. Razorfish has profited from and at times even driven the current techno-media wave of change in both technology and media. The authors' ideas are valuable, but not ahead of the curve. They discuss what is already well underway, rather than predicting coming changes. getAbstract recommends their keen assessment of the complex status quo to those who need to understand it better and to those considering change, involved in marketing or shaping corporate messages.

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis written by Bernd S. W. Schröder and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-01-28 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A self-contained introduction to the fundamentals of mathematical analysis Mathematical Analysis: A Concise Introduction presents the foundations of analysis and illustrates its role in mathematics. By focusing on the essentials, reinforcing learning through exercises, and featuring a unique "learn by doing" approach, the book develops the reader's proof writing skills and establishes fundamental comprehension of analysis that is essential for further exploration of pure and applied mathematics. This book is directly applicable to areas such as differential equations, probability theory, numerical analysis, differential geometry, and functional analysis. Mathematical Analysis is composed of three parts: ?Part One presents the analysis of functions of one variable, including sequences, continuity, differentiation, Riemann integration, series, and the Lebesgue integral. A detailed explanation of proof writing is provided with specific attention devoted to standard proof techniques. To facilitate an efficient transition to more abstract settings, the results for single variable functions are proved using methods that translate to metric spaces. ?Part Two explores the more abstract counterparts of the concepts outlined earlier in the text. The reader is introduced to the fundamental spaces of analysis, including Lp spaces, and the book successfully details how appropriate definitions of integration, continuity, and differentiation lead to a powerful and widely applicable foundation for further study of applied mathematics. The interrelation between measure theory, topology, and differentiation is then examined in the proof of the Multidimensional Substitution Formula. Further areas of coverage in this section include manifolds, Stokes' Theorem, Hilbert spaces, the convergence of Fourier series, and Riesz' Representation Theorem. ?Part Three provides an overview of the motivations for analysis as well as its applications in various subjects. A special focus on ordinary and partial differential equations presents some theoretical and practical challenges that exist in these areas. Topical coverage includes Navier-Stokes equations and the finite element method. Mathematical Analysis: A Concise Introduction includes an extensive index and over 900 exercises ranging in level of difficulty, from conceptual questions and adaptations of proofs to proofs with and without hints. These opportunities for reinforcement, along with the overall concise and well-organized treatment of analysis, make this book essential for readers in upper-undergraduate or beginning graduate mathematics courses who would like to build a solid foundation in analysis for further work in all analysis-based branches of mathematics.

Book Bayesian Designs for Phase I II Clinical Trials

Download or read book Bayesian Designs for Phase I II Clinical Trials written by Ying Yuan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliably optimizing a new treatment in humans is a critical first step in clinical evaluation since choosing a suboptimal dose or schedule may lead to failure in later trials. At the same time, if promising preclinical results do not translate into a real treatment advance, it is important to determine this quickly and terminate the clinical evaluation process to avoid wasting resources. Bayesian Designs for Phase I–II Clinical Trials describes how phase I–II designs can serve as a bridge or protective barrier between preclinical studies and large confirmatory clinical trials. It illustrates many of the severe drawbacks with conventional methods used for early-phase clinical trials and presents numerous Bayesian designs for human clinical trials of new experimental treatment regimes. Written by research leaders from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, this book shows how Bayesian designs for early-phase clinical trials can explore, refine, and optimize new experimental treatments. It emphasizes the importance of basing decisions on both efficacy and toxicity.

Book Introduction to Real Analysis

Download or read book Introduction to Real Analysis written by Manfred Stoll and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic textbook has been used successfully by instructors and students for nearly three decades. This timely new edition offers minimal yet notable changes while retaining all the elements, presentation, and accessible exposition of previous editions. A list of updates is found in the Preface to this edition. This text is based on the author’s experience in teaching graduate courses and the minimal requirements for successful graduate study. The text is understandable to the typical student enrolled in the course, taking into consideration the variations in abilities, background, and motivation. Chapters one through six have been written to be accessible to the average student, w hile at the same time challenging the more talented student through the exercises. Chapters seven through ten assume the students have achieved some level of expertise in the subject. In these chapters, the theorems, examples, and exercises require greater sophistication and mathematical maturity for full understanding. In addition to the standard topics the text includes topics that are not always included in comparable texts. Chapter 6 contains a section on the Riemann-Stieltjes integral and a proof of Lebesgue’s t heorem providing necessary and sufficient conditions for Riemann integrability. Chapter 7 also includes a section on square summable sequences and a brief introduction to normed linear spaces. C hapter 8 contains a proof of the Weierstrass approximation theorem using the method of aapproximate identities. The inclusion of Fourier series in the text allows the student to gain some exposure to this important subject. The final chapter includes a detailed treatment of Lebesgue measure and the Lebesgue integral, using inner and outer measure. The exercises at the end of each section reinforce the concepts. Notes provide historical comments or discuss additional topics.
