Book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows

Download or read book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents results of the analytical and numerical modeling of convective heat and mass transfer in different rotating flows caused by (i) system rotation, (ii) swirl flows due to swirl generators, and (iii) surface curvature in turns and bends. Volume forces (i.e. centrifugal and Coriolis forces), which influence the flow pattern, emerge in all of these rotating flows. The main part of this work deals with rotating flows caused by system rotation, which includes several rotating-disk configurations and straight pipes rotating about a parallel axis. Swirl flows are studied in some of the configurations mentioned above. Curvilinear flows are investigated in different geometries of two-pass ribbed and smooth channels with 180° bends. The author demonstrates that the complex phenomena of fluid flow and convective heat transfer in rotating flows can be successfully simulated using not only the universal CFD methodology, but in certain cases by means of the integral methods, self-similar and analytical solutions. The book will be a valuable read for research experts and practitioners in the field of heat and mass transfer.

Double-pass solar air heating and phenomena including heat transfer through thin liquid film and surface texture alteration for boiling heat transfer are discussed.

Book Experiments in Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics

Download or read book Experiments in Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics written by Robert Alan Granger and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-06-24 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering curricula are notoriously demanding. One way to make the material easier to grasp and more fun to learn is to emphasize the experimental or "hands-on" aspects of engineering problems. This unique book is about learning through active participation in laboratory experiments, and it specifically aims to dispel some of the mystery so many students associate with the study of thermodynamics and heat transfer. In it, the author presents a collection of experiments in heat transfer and thermodynamics contributed by leading engineering educators. The experiments have been tested, evaluated, and proved successful for classroom use. Each experiment follows the same step-by-step format, which includes the objective of the experiment, apparatus needed, procedure, suggested headings, and references. The experiments use apparatus that is easily built or attainable. Among the topics covered are heat conduction, convection, boiling, mixing, diffusion, radiation, heat pipes and exchangers, and thermodynamics. The book will be especially useful as a companion to standard heat transfer and thermodynamics texts.

Book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer

Download or read book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer written by S. Mostafa Ghiaasiaan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was developed during Professor Ghiaasiaan's ten years of teaching a graduate-level course on convection heat and mass transfer and is further enhanced by his twenty years of teaching experience. The book is ideal for a graduate course dealing with the theory and practice of convection heat and mass transfer. The book treats well-established theory and practice but is also enriched by its coverage of modern areas such as flow in microchannels and computational fluid dynamics-based design and analysis methods. The book is primarily concerned with convection heat transfer. Essentials of mass transfer are also covered. The mass transfer material and problems are presented such that they can be easily skipped. The book is richly enhanced by examples and end-of-chapter exercises. Solutions are available for qualified instructors. The book includes 18 appendices providing compilations of most essential property and mathematical information for analysis of convective heat and mass transfer processes.

Book Convective Heat Transfer

Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer written by I. Pop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-23 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad for modelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoretical analyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such as corrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.
