Book Analysis of Cargo Theft Risk in the Supply Chain

Download or read book Analysis of Cargo Theft Risk in the Supply Chain written by Katherine Echevers and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each day, drivers around the world face high risks on the road, which until now have been highly underestimated. It has been assessed that cargo theft represents a loss of at least $30 billion worldwide. For companies and public institutions dealing with higher problematics in their countries, cargo theft remains a silent topic and disrupts company's supply chains without limits. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that drive cargo thieves around the world. At the same time it aims to pinpoint mitigation risk models and actions that might prevent the high likelihood or reduce the impact of such event. In order to provide sufficient highlights about the current situation of cargo theft, a market research has been made with the help of different institutions in the U.S., Latin America and Europe. The data gathering method differs from country to country, sometimes data were collected by public institutions and some other times by private organizations. The study will focus only on three European countries, two Latin American countries and the U.S. The study shows that every country is impacted by this illegal activity but by different proportions. In order to have a deeper understanding on how to apply the recommended measures in this research paper, a case study as an example of cargo theft in Brazil has been developed. The case study about the company Richmond relates a daily problematic issue that pharmaceutical industries have to deal in developing countries like Brazil. The solution provides a methodology to mitigate cargo theft risk as well as further solutions against consequences provoked by a cargo theft attack.
