Book Control of Uncertain Sampled Data Systems

Download or read book Control of Uncertain Sampled Data Systems written by Geir E. Dullerud and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My main goal in writing this monograph is to provide a detailed treatment of uncertainty analysis for sampled-data systems in the context of sys tems control theory. Here, sampled-data system refers to the hybrid sys tem formed when continuous time and discrete time systems are intercon nected; by uncertainty analysis I mean achievable performance in the pres ence of worst -case uncertainty and disturbances. The focus of the book is sampled-data systems; however the approach presented is applicable to both standard and sampled-data systems. The past few years has seen a large surge in research activity centered around creating systematic methods for sampled-data design. The aim of this activity has been to deepen and broaden the, by now, sophisticated viewpoint developed for design of purely continuous time or discrete time systems (e.g. J{oo or -I!l optimal synthesis, J1 theory) so that it can be ap plied to the design of sampled-data systems. This research effort has been largely successful, producing both interesting new mathematical tools for control theory, and new methodologies for practical engineering design. Analysis of structured uncertainty is an important objective in control design, because it is a flexible and non-conservative way of analyzing sys tem performance, which is suitable in many engineering design scenarios.

Book Piecewise Affine Control Continuous Time Sampled Data and Networked Systems

Download or read book Piecewise Affine Control Continuous Time Sampled Data and Networked Systems written by Luis Rodrigues and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2019-11-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering systems operate through actuators, most of which will exhibit phenomena such as saturation or zones of no operation, commonly known as dead zones. These are examples of piecewise-affine characteristics, and they can have a considerable impact on the stability and performance of engineering systems. This book targets controller design for piecewise affine systems, fulfilling both stability and performance requirements. The authors present a unified computational methodology for the analysis and synthesis of piecewise affine controllers, taking an approach that is capable of handling sliding modes, sampled-data, and networked systems. They introduce algorithms that will be applicable to nonlinear systems approximated by piecewise affine systems, and they feature several examples from areas such as switching electronic circuits, autonomous vehicles, neural networks, and aerospace applications. Piecewise Affine Control: Continuous-Time, Sampled-Data, and Networked Systems is intended for graduate students, advanced senior undergraduate students, and researchers in academia and industry. It is also appropriate for engineers working on applications where switched linear and affine models are important.

Book Sampled Data Control Systems

Download or read book Sampled Data Control Systems written by Jürgen Ackermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first German edition of this book appeared in 1972, and in Polish translation in 1976. It covered the analysis and synthesis of sampled-data systems. The second German edition of 1983 ex tended the scope to design, in particular design for robustness of control system properties with respect to uncertainty of plant parameters. This book is a revised translation of the second Ger man edition. The revisions concern primarily a new treatment of the finite effect sequences and the use of nice numerical proper ties of Hessenberg forms. The introduction describes examples of sampled-data systems, in particular digital controllers, and analyzes the sampler and hold; also some design aspects are introduced. Chapter 2 reviews the modelling and analysis of continuous systems. Pole shifting is formulated as an affine mapping, here some n~w material on fixing some eigenvalues or some gains in a design step is included. Chapter 3 treats the analysis of sampled-data systems by state space and z-transform methods. This includes sections on inter sampling behavior, time-delay systems, absolute stability and non synchronous sampling. Chapter 4 treats controllability and reach ability of discrete-time systems, controllability regions for con strained inputs and the choice of the sampling interval primarily under controllability aspects. Chapter 5 deals with observability and constructability both from the discrete and continuous plant output. Full and reduced order observers are treated as well as disturbance observers.

Book Robust Optimal Digital Control of Uncertain Multi Rate Sampled Data Systems

Download or read book Robust Optimal Digital Control of Uncertain Multi Rate Sampled Data Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a new digital redesign method for robust control of a sampled data uncertain system using an observer based digital controller. The multiple segment trapezoidal rule together with interval arithmetic is utilized to find a digital interval model of the original continuous time uncertain system. A dual concept of the digital interval modeling which captures the intersample states of the original continuous time uncertain system is used to discretize a predesigned continuous time state feedback robust controller so that the states of the digitally controlled continuous time uncertain system closely match those of the original analogously controlled continuous time uncertain system. A discrete time observer is constructed from the original continuous time observer such that the estimated states of the redesigned discrete time observer match those of the original continuous time observer at the sampling instants. Using the newly digitally redesigned observer based controllers, the resulting dynamic states of the digitally controlled sampled data uncertain systems are able to closely match those of the original analogously controlled continuous time uncertain systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invoking the machinery of Control Theory to control a real-world plant means, on the basis of available a priori knowledge of the plant, design ing/selecting a feasible controller accomplishing the control objective. A priori knowledge about the plant is normally represented as a mathemat ical model, given by physical laws or measurement data. Such a model is inevitably uncertain, due to measurement errors, simplified models of natural laws, neglected dynamics, and the desire to get a model tractable for further computations. Control of Uncertain Systems is therefore an im portant issue, both practically and philosophically. Basically, two different approaches exist: Adaptive Control and Robust Control. On four beautiful summer days in June 1989, researchers from 12 coun tries gathered together in Bremen, West Germany, for a workshop devoted to these issues. 49 talks, invited and contributed, were presented. The present work collects 18 of these talks. (Program and original abstracts from the workshop are available as Report 209, Institute for Dynamical System.) The papers represent a broad scope of current trends in robust and adaptive control. Topics covered include: New directions in adaptive control, stability analysis of uncertain systems, robust and adaptive stabi lization, numerical methods, and topological aspects of robust control. The papers were carefully refereed and we would like to thank the referees for their efforts, which have resulted in substantial improvements.

Book Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems

Download or read book Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems written by Roberto Tempo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-21 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presence of uncertainty in a system description has always been a critical issue in control. The main objective of Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems, with Applications (Second Edition) is to introduce the reader to the fundamentals of probabilistic methods in the analysis and design of systems subject to deterministic and stochastic uncertainty. The approach propounded by this text guarantees a reduction in the computational complexity of classical control algorithms and in the conservativeness of standard robust control techniques. The second edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent research and new applications with chapters on statistical learning theory, sequential methods for control and the scenario approach being completely rewritten. Features: · self-contained treatment explaining Monte Carlo and Las Vegas randomized algorithms from their genesis in the principles of probability theory to their use for system analysis; · development of a novel paradigm for (convex and nonconvex) controller synthesis in the presence of uncertainty and in the context of randomized algorithms; · comprehensive treatment of multivariate sample generation techniques, including consideration of the difficulties involved in obtaining identically and independently distributed samples; · applications of randomized algorithms in various endeavours, such as PageRank computation for the Google Web search engine, unmanned aerial vehicle design (both new in the second edition), congestion control of high-speed communications networks and stability of quantized sampled-data systems. Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems (second edition) is certain to interest academic researchers and graduate control students working in probabilistic, robust or optimal control methods and control engineers dealing with system uncertainties. The present book is a very timely contribution to the literature. I have no hesitation in asserting that it will remain a widely cited reference work for many years. M. Vidyasagar

Book Optimal Sampled Data Control Systems

Download or read book Optimal Sampled Data Control Systems written by Tongwen Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many techniques for designing linear multivariable analogue controllers, the two most popular optimal ones are H2 and H-infinity optimization. The fact that most new industrial controllers are digital provides strong motivation for adapting or extending these techniques to digital control systems. This book, now available as a corrected reprint, attempts to do so. Part I presents two indirect methods of sampled-data controller design: These approaches include approximations to a real problem, which involves an analogue plant, continuous-time performance specifications, and a sampled-data controller. Part II proposes a direct attack in the continuous-time domain, where sampled-data systems are time-varying. The findings are presented in forms that can readily be programmed in, e.g., MATLAB.

Book Sampled data Output Feedback Control of Uncertain Nonholonomic Systems in Chained Forms

Download or read book Sampled data Output Feedback Control of Uncertain Nonholonomic Systems in Chained Forms written by Brandy Alger and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is imperative to find a sampled-data controller for nonholonomic systems due to the need to implement through the use of digital computers. Nonholonomic systems in chained form are sufficiently important to research to the numerous real world applications, mobile robots being one of the biggest. Moreover, due to the presence of uncertain nonlinearities, most of the existing design methods are inapplicable to these systems. It has been proven that under a lower-triangular growth condition, a class of uncertain nonlinear systems can be globally stabilized by a sampled-data output feedback controller whose observer and control laws are discrete-time and linear. In this thesis, using a change of coordinates and combining the recently developed sampled-data output feedback control method, we first design a sampled-data output feedback controller to stabilize the nonholonomic system with a single z-state. For nonholonomic systems with two-dimensional z-states, the output feedback control problem becomes much more challenging since the boundedness of the change of coordinates is not proved. To solve this problem, we design a controller for the z-system, which can guarantee the boundedness of the change of coordinates after a certain time. From this we can construct a globally stabilizing output feedback controller for the nonholonomic systems. Computer simulations are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Book Interval Reachability Analysis

Download or read book Interval Reachability Analysis written by Pierre-Jean Meyer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief presents a suite of computationally efficient methods for bounding trajectories of dynamical systems with multi-dimensional intervals, or ‘boxes’. It explains the importance of bounding trajectories for evaluating the robustness of systems in the face of parametric uncertainty, and for verification or control synthesis problems with respect to safety and reachability properties. The methods presented make use of: interval analysis; monotonicity theory; contraction theory; and data-driven techniques that sample trajectories. The methods are implemented in an accompanying open-source Toolbox for Interval Reachability Analysis. This brief provides a tutorial description of each method, focusing on the requirements and trade-offs relevant to the user, requiring only basic background on dynamical systems. The second part of the brief describes applications of interval reachability analysis. This makes the brief of interest to a wide range of academic researchers, graduate students, and practising engineers in the field of control and verification.
