Download or read book Control of Fretting Fatigue written by NATIONAL MATERIALS ADVISORY BOARD (NAS-NAE) WASHINGTON D C. and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state of the art of fretting and available fretting-initiated fatigue tests are assessed. Recommendations focus on a program of research designed to improve understanding of fretting-initiated fatigue mechanisms and on aspects of evaluation. Guidelines for use by designers to circumvent the development of fretting also are described. An extensive review of the literature is included as is a 210-item bibliography. (Author).

Book The Influence of Fretting on Fatigue

Download or read book The Influence of Fretting on Fatigue written by W. J. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intrusion of fretting fatigue in the field of flight structures has been responsible, in many cases, for the high strength reduction factors, of 10 or more, commonly encountered. Consequently, a primary objective of the report was to consider the evidence to support the claim that fretting must be ranked in importance with geometric stress concentration and the like, when considering the fatigue behaviour of structures. Thus, Mean Structures Curves, Crack Propagation And Non-Propagating Cracks and some Fundamental Fretting Fatigue Researches have been described and interpreted with the elucidation of the fretting fatigue mechanism in mind. A survey of certain Anti-Fret Techniques has been included not only to emphasize the gains to be made in terms of structural efficiency but to justify the main thesis that Primarily, the fretting fatigue mechanism is controlled by the stress fields generated by the contact of two surface topographies. (Author).

Book Fretting Fatigue Testing Methodology Incorporating Independent Slip and Fatigue Stress Control

Download or read book Fretting Fatigue Testing Methodology Incorporating Independent Slip and Fatigue Stress Control written by D. Werner and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fretting fatigue apparatus was designed, built and tested incorporating independent computer control of fretting fatigue slip distance and fatigue stress. This was accomplished through the utilization of two coaxial servo-hydraulic test actuators controlled in real time by computer. The central hydraulic actuator applies the fatigue load to the test specimen, while the outer concentric hydraulic actuator moves the fretting pin carrier apparatus. Independent control of slip displacement is achieved with the use of a capacitance displacement gage attached to the specimen fret pin carrier in such a manner that relative displacements of

Book Mechanics of Fretting and Fretting Fatigue

Download or read book Mechanics of Fretting and Fretting Fatigue written by David A. Hills and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which has only one very distant forerunner authored by David A. Hills with David Nowell, represents a very big step that is the quantification of these problems and represents the twenty-five years' worth of work which have gone on at Oxford since the first book on the subject. Fatigue (popularly 'metal fatigue') is the primary failure mode of all machines, engines, transmissions and indeed almost all mechanical devices. The propagation of cracks is well understood and is treated in the subject Fracture Mechanics. By contrast, the nucleation of cracks is very hard to quantify and this remains the case with so-called 'free initiation' and, to a lesser extent, at cracks nucleated from stress raising features. But the third form of nucleation, where cracks start from the edges of rubbing components, that is, at joints, is potentially a very much better-defined environment, and therefore, the problem is amendable to attack by applied mechanics and experiment. The contents are of value both to those embarking on research on the subject and to practitioner in industry.
