Book Nonlinear Filtering

Download or read book Nonlinear Filtering written by Kumar Pakki Bharani Chandra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives readers in-depth know-how on methods of state estimation for nonlinear control systems. It starts with an introduction to dynamic control systems and system states and a brief description of the Kalman filter. In the following chapters, various state estimation techniques for nonlinear systems are discussed, including the extended, unscented and cubature Kalman filters. The cubature Kalman filter and its variants are introduced in particular detail because of their efficiency and their ability to deal with systems with Gaussian and/or non-Gaussian noise. The book also discusses information-filter and square-root-filtering algorithms, useful for state estimation in some real-time control system design problems. A number of case studies are included in the book to illustrate the application of various nonlinear filtering algorithms. Nonlinear Filtering is written for academic and industrial researchers, engineers and research students who are interested in nonlinear control systems analysis and design. The chief features of the book include: dedicated coverage of recently developed nonlinear, Jacobian-free, filtering algorithms; examples illustrating the use of nonlinear filtering algorithms in real-world applications; detailed derivation and complete algorithms for nonlinear filtering methods, which help readers to a fundamental understanding and easier coding of those algorithms; and MATLAB® codes associated with case-study applications, which can be downloaded from the Springer Extra Materials website.

Book Active Fault Tolerant Control Systems

Download or read book Active Fault Tolerant Control Systems written by Tushar Jain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces novel algorithms for designing fault-tolerant control (FTC) systems using the behavioral system theoretic approach, and presents a demonstration of successful novel FTC mechanisms on several benchmark examples. The authors also discuss a new transient management scheme, which is an essential requirement for the implementation of active FTC systems, and two data-driven methodologies that are broadly classified as active FTC systems: the projection-based approach and the online-redesign approach. These algorithms do not require much a priori information about the plant in real-time, and in addition this novel implementation of active FTC systems circumvents various weaknesses induced by using a diagnostic module in real-time. The book provides graduate students taking masters and doctoral courses in mathematics, control, and electrical engineering an excellent stepping-stone for their research. It also appeals to practitioners interested to apply innovative fail-safe control techniques.

Book Extremum Seeking Control and Applications

Download or read book Extremum Seeking Control and Applications written by Chunlei Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extremum-seeking control tracks a varying maximum or minimum in a performance function such as output or cost. It attempts to determine the optimal performance of a control system as it operates, thereby reducing downtime and the need for system analysis. Extremum-seeking Control and Applications is divided into two parts. In the first, the authors review existing analog-optimization-based extremum-seeking control including gradient-, perturbation- and sliding-mode-based control designs. They then propose a novel numerical-optimization-based extremum-seeking control based on optimization algorithms and state regulation. This control design is developed for simple linear time-invariant systems and then extended for a class of feedback linearizable nonlinear systems. The two main optimization algorithms – line search and trust region methods – are analyzed for robustness. Finite-time and asymptotic state regulators are put forward for linear and nonlinear systems respectively. Further design flexibility is achieved using the robustness results of the optimization algorithms and the asymptotic state regulator by which existing nonlinear adaptive control techniques can be introduced for robust design. The approach used is easier to implement and tends to be more robust than those that use perturbation-based extremum-seeking control. The second part of the book deals with a variety of applications of extremum-seeking control: a comparative study of extremum-seeking control schemes in antilock braking system design; source seeking, formation control, collision and obstacle avoidance for groups of autonomous agents; mobile radar networks; and impedance matching. MATLAB®/Simulink® code which can be downloaded from www.springer.com/ISBN helps readers to reproduce the results presented in the text and gives them a head start for implementing the algorithms in their own applications. Extremum-seeking Control and Applications will interest academics and graduate students working in control, and industrial practitioners from a variety of backgrounds: systems, automotive, aerospace, communications, semiconductor and chemical engineering.

This book has two sections: the first section begins with an introduction to cognitive radio and discusses in detail various, inter-dependent technologies such as network coding, software-based radio, dirty RF, etc. and their relation to cognitive radio. The second section deals with two key applications of cognitive radio – next generation cellular networks and vehicular networks. The focus is on the impact and the benefit of having cognitive radio-based mechanisms for radio resource allocation, multihop data transmission, co-operative communication, cross-layer solutions and FPGA-level framework design, as well as the effect of relays as cognitive gateways and real-time, seamless multimedia transmission using cognitive radio.

Book Wind Energy Systems

Download or read book Wind Energy Systems written by Mario Garcia-Sanz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the latest developments in the field, Wind Energy Systems: Control Engineering Design offers a novel take on advanced control engineering design techniques for wind turbine applications. The book introduces concurrent quantitative engineering techniques for the design of highly efficient and reliable controllers, which can be used to solve the most critical problems of multi-megawatt wind energy systems. This book is based on the authors’ experience during the last two decades designing commercial multi-megawatt wind turbines and control systems for industry leaders, including NASA and the European Space Agency. This work is their response to the urgent need for a truly reliable concurrent engineering methodology for the design of advanced control systems. Outlining a roadmap for such a coordinated architecture, the authors consider the links between all aspects of a multi-megawatt wind energy project, in which the wind turbine and the control system must be cooperatively designed to achieve an optimized, reliable, and successful system. Look inside for links to a free download of QFTCT—a new interactive CAD tool for QFT controller design with MATLAB® that the authors developed with the European Space Agency. The textbook’s big-picture insights can help students and practicing engineers control and optimize a wind energy system, in which large, flexible, aerodynamic structures are connected to a demanding variable electrical grid and work automatically under very turbulent and unpredictable environmental conditions. The book covers topics including robust QFT control, aerodynamics, mechanical and electrical dynamic modeling, economics, reliability, and efficiency. It also addresses standards, certification, implementation, grid integration, and power quality, as well as environmental and maintenance issues. To reinforce understanding, the authors present real examples of experimentation with commercial multi-megawatt direct-drive wind turbines, as well as on-shore, offshore, floating, and airborne wind turbine applications. They also offer a unique in-depth exploration of the quantitative feedback theory (QFT)—a proven, successful robust control technique for real-world applications—as well as advanced switching control techniques that help engineers exceed classical linear limitations.
