Book excerpt: Ce travail numérique est une contribution à l'étude de la qualité de l'air liée à la présence de polluants particulaires dans les locaux. Après l'analyse physique des interactions subies par les particules injectées dans un écoulement fluide, nous avons développé un outil numérique permettant de simuler le comportement des particules dans les écoulements faiblement turbulents typiques du bâtiment, en faisant l'hypothèse que les particules n'influencent pas l'écoulement et que les interactions particule - particule peuvent être négligées. La dispersion des particules dans le fluide en écoulement est résolue par une approche lagrangienne qui consiste à simuler un certain nombre de trajectoires à partir desquelles les grandeurs moyennes caractérisant le comportement des particules sont ensuite obtenues statistiquement. Pour cela, les vitesses instantanées du fluide sont obtenues par tirages aléatoires, à partir des champs moyens de l'écoulement et des corrélations spatiales et temporelles. A ce stade du travail, nous avons testé plusieurs modèles de prédiction des caractéristiques instantanées du fluide, et nous avons retenu celui qui semblait le plus approprié à la modélisation des configurations qui nous intéressent. Pour la construction de la trajectoire d'une particule discrète on résout la relation dynamique établie à partir du bilan des forces agissant sur la particule. Les résultats obtenus dans le cas d'une turbulence de grille sont comparés à des résultats expérimentaux. Nous avons également étudié l'influence de la précision de la prédiction des caractéristiques turbulentes de l'écoulement sur la dispersion des particules, ainsi que la capacité des modèles de turbulence basés sur une décomposition en moyennes temporelles à résoudre correctement les écoulements turbulents. Finalement, le modèle de dispersion des particules a été utilisé pour caractériser la déposition de particules sur les parois dans un écoulement turbulent confiné correspondant à la configuration d'une cavité agitée.

Book excerpt: Notre contribution à l’étude des polluants particulaires apporte un complément à la fois expérimental et numérique à la connaissance existante sur la qualité de l’air intérieur dans les locaux ventilés. Dans un premier temps, nous avons réalisé un état de l’art des études existantes sur la dispersion et le dépôt des particules fines dans les cavités ventilées. Notre contribution expérimentale a été dédiée à la réalisation d’expérimentations sur le dépôt des particules dans deux cellules de rapport d’échelle 1 à 4. Nos travaux mettent en évidence la dispersion des résultats issus de la bibliographie et la difficulté de comparer des résultats issus de cellules de tailles différentes. Dans chaque cas nous avons étudié le dépôt, en fonction à la fois de la configuration de ventilation et du taux de renouvellement d’air. Au cours d’une analyse numérique plus détaillée, nous avons déterminé d’abord le mouvement de la phase fluide puis la dispersion et le dépôt des particules fines dans des cavités ventilées. Dans un premier temps, nous avons utilisé une méthode lagrangienne développée au laboratoire où nous avons intégré les effets de la diffusion brownienne, mais cette approche devient rapidement trop onéreuse et donc inopérante pour des particules de taille inférieure à 0,5 micromètres. C’est pour cette raison que nous avons testé par la suite une approche eulérienne qui paraît mieux adaptée pour les particules submicroniques. En effet, la comparaison des valeurs calculées avec celles mesurées dans les mêmes configurations souligne les bonnes performances de la méthode eulérienne pour cette taille de particule.
