Book excerpt: Cette étude a pour objet la mise au point d'un procédé haute température par plasma d'argon à arc transféré destiné à inerter les REFIOM (Résidus d'Epuration des Fumées des Incinérateurs d'Ordures Ménagères). La difficulté principale réside dans la compréhension des mécanismes d'évaporation des métaux lourds et volatils (comme le plomb et zinc) lors de la vitrification des REFIOM dans le four plasma à arc transféré. Ce travail s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une étude scientifique coordonée par la structure ECODEV-CNRS-ADEME-EDF.Le dispositif mis au point, permet le traitement en bain dans un creuset de graphite et en continu d'un modèle chimique de REFIOM.Le contrôle en ligne du procédé est assuré par un système d'analyse par spectromètrie ICP (Inductive Coupled Plasma) qui donne en temps réel la composition de la phase gazeuse du réacteur durant le traitement.Le traitement d'un modèle chimique de REFIOM composé d'une matrice de zéolithe imprégée de sels de plomb ou de zing a permis de montrer l'influence de l'anion (chlorure ou sulfate) associé au plomb ou au zing sur l'évaporation de ces éléments.Ainsi, le chlorure d'un même métal s'évapore plus vite que son sulfate.De m^eme,le plomb est plus volatil que le zing, et tous les deux suivent des lois cinétiques du premier ordre.L'augmentationde la température du bain ou l'ajout de fondant comme l'oxyde de calcium contribuent à améliorer l'évaporation du plomb et du zinc.Le plomb et le zinc après leur évaporation se condensent spontanément et rapidement sur les parois refroidies du réacteurs et se déposent principalement sous leur forme oxydée et métallique offrant la possibilité d'une réduction en vue d'un recyclage...
