Download or read book Ultrafiltration Membranes and Applications written by Anthony R. Cooper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a record of a symposium, "Ultrafiltration Membranes and Applications," which was held at the l78th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C., September 11-13, 1979. In organlzlng these sessions, I hoped to provide a comprehensive survey of the current state of ultrafiltration theory, the most recent advances in membrane technology, and a thorough treatment of existing applications and future directions for ultrafiltration. For me, the symposium was an outstanding success. It was a truly international forum with stimulating presentations and an enthusiastic audience. I hope that some of this spirit has spilled over into this volume, which is intended to reach a much wider audience. I am indebted to the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry of the American Chemical Society for their sponsorship. ANTHONY R. COOPER Palo Alto, California }larch, 1980 vii CONTENTS PART I. Book Integration of Membrane Filtration Into Water Treatment Systems

Download or read book Integration of Membrane Filtration Into Water Treatment Systems written by Jonathan R. Pressdee and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2006-08-31 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, utilities are using membrane technology to solve a wide array of water treatment challenges. The current state of knowledge regarding different aspects of membrane integration is thought to be in development, as evidenced by the continued research efforts by utilities, manufacturers, engineers, and academia. The water industry lacks specific guidance on how membranes can be integrated into a treatment process to improve treatment or capacity. The findings of this project focused on key issues of membrane integration: the benefits of pilot testing and planning, design considerations, and operation and maintenance needs. All of the participating utilities conducted pilot evaluations of membrane technologies and some continued those studies after commissioning to optimize system performance.Several of the participating utilities embarked on a comprehensive planning and approval program, which included community outreach efforts, budget planning, and scheduling for pilot testing before design. In terms of design considerations, many of the utilities experienced unique design challenges that were specific to the system being installed.

Book excerpt: The petroleum, natural gas, and the chemical & petrochemical process industries, variously require the separation of mixtures -- whether of raw feedstream materials, reactants, intermediates, or products -- as comprising gases, liquids, or solutions. Membrane separations add another weapon to the arsenal of separation methods, including the upgrading of subquality natural gas reserves. This book furnishes the necessary derivations and calculations for numerically predicting the separations that can be obtained, based on the known respective membrane permeabilities of the pure components. A verstile text, Membrane Separations Technology is suitable both as a reference and a textbook for the practicing process engineer, the researcher, and chemical & petrochemical engineering faculty and students. Has cutting-edge scientific methods for liquifying and transporting natural gas Written for the engineer in the field, for easy access to important information Also contains problems and solutions for the student and professor in chemical engineering departments
