Book excerpt: Cette étude a permis la mise au point d'une démarche et d'un outil dédiés à la simulation numérique de la trempe superficielle après chauffage par induction appliquée aux vilebrequins. Ce travail a été réalisé dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche et développement du fabricant de vilebrequins Krupp Mavilor, avec pour objectif d'optimiser le traitement thermique vis à vis de la tenue en fatigue des pièces. Une part importante de l'étude a été consacrée à la modélisation du comportement métallurgique de l'acier dans le cas de cinétiques thermiques rapides. Après une étude pardilatométrie, les transformations de phase ont été modélisées en tenant compte de l'influence de l'homogénéité de l'austénite sur le comportement du matériau au moment de la trempe. Afin de tenir compte des particularités du traitement thermique appliqué aux vilebrequins, un code - métier s'appuyant sur trois logiciels de calcul par éléments fuùs - FLUX2D pour les parties électromagnétique et thermique, METAL7 pour la métallurgie et MSC MARC pour la mécanique - ainsi que sur des développements spécifiques, a été présenté. L'ensemble des phénomènes physiques ainsi que les principales interactions liées au procédé, ont été prises en compte. La description du comportement thermomécanique de l'acier a été simplifiée pour ne tenir compte que des phénomènes majeurs à l'origine de la genèse des contraintes résiduelles. Après validation de l'outil de simulation sur un cas test puis sur le procédé de trempe de référence, une première optimisation a été proposée. Un dispositif de trempe expérimental a été conçu de façon à valider l'ensemble des travaux dans des conditions contrôlées et reproductibles. Les résultats obtenus montrent une bonne corrélation d'un point de vue métallurgique entre simulation et expérimentation. La comparaison des résultats mécaniques montre des évolutions communes aux calculs et aux mesures, avec toutefois des niveaux de contraintes résiduelles sensiblement différents.
