Book excerpt: Les aciers austéno-ferritiques moulés sont utilisés pour la fabrication de certains composants du circuit primaire des réacteurs à eau pressurisée. Leur utilisation aux températures de service entraine leur fragilisation en raidon de l'apparition d'une phase durcissante dans la ferrite par transformation spinodale. Certaines conditions réelles de fonctionnement sont telles que les aciers en cause sont soumis à des chargements cylindriques. Par conséquent un des citères retenus pour la tenue en service des composants est la résistance à la fatigue. Ce travail s'incrit dans ce cadre. Il a été montré que malgré la macrostructure particulière de ces aciers, le comportement des aciers austéno-ferritiques vieillis sous chargement cylindriques est classique. En effet l'endurance du matériau en fatigue oligocyclique suit une loi de Manson-Coffin. Le durcissement initial est suivi d'un adoucissement attribué en partie à la destruction partielle de compositions. De plus la vitesse de fissuration par la fatigue suit une loi de Paris. L'étude des mécanismes d'endommagement des aciers austéno-ferritiques a montré que l'ammorçage des fissures a lieu préferenctiellement aux abord des retassures de taille millimétrique. La propagation des fissures continue. Elle correspond à des rupture successives d'éléments composés par un îlot de ferrite et un îlot d'austénite (en premier lieu la ferrite se rompt par clivage comme en chargement monotone puis l'austénite se rompt par fatigue).

Due to their ferritic-austenitic microstructure, they possess a higher mechanical strength and a better corrosion resistance than standard austenitic steels. This type of steel is now increasing its application and market field due to its very good properties and relatively low cost. This book is a review of the most recent progress achieved in the last 10 years on microstructure, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength properties, as well as applications, due to the development of new grades. Special attention will be given to fatigue and fracture behavior and to proposed models to account for mechanical behavior.
