Download or read book The Language of Deception written by Dariusz Galasiński and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2000 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book employs a discourse analytical approach to the study of deception. It focuses on the deceptive messages themselves - how language is used to deceive others and what kinds of linguistic devices are used. The author develops a theory of deception based on his study of debates and interviews of American and British politicians.
Download or read book Critical Discourse Analysis written by G. Weiss and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-10-18 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can discourse analysis techniques adequately deal with complex social phenomena? What does 'interdisciplinarity' mean for theory building and the practise of empirical research? This original volume debates critical theory and discourse analysis, focussing on the extent to which CDA can draw on a range of disciplines in the social sciences.
Download or read book The Tale of the Harmattan written by Ojaide, Tanure and published by Kraft Books. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection, Nigerian poet Tanure Ojaide adopts the persona of a homeboy griot returning from travels to be confronted by the devastation wrought by oil greed, politics, and technology upon his beloved Niger Delta; its environment, civilisation and people. It becomes a tragedy of corruption, suffering and dispossession in sharp contrast to the eco-sensitive animism of his youth. Angry, elegiac and lyrical, this collection allows the reader insight far beyond the reach of journalism or prose.
Download or read book Pragmatics of Discourse written by Klaus P. Schneider and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-06-18 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discourse is language as it occurs, in any form or context, beyond the speech act. It may be written or spoken, monological or dialogical, but there is always a communicative aim or purpose. The present volume provides systematic orientation in the vast field of studying discourse from a pragmatic perspective. It first gives an overview of a range of approaches developed for the analysis of discourse, including, among others, conversation analysis, systemic-functional analysis, genre analysis, critical discourse analysis, corpus-driven approaches and multimodal analysis. The focus is furthermore on functional units in discourse, such as discourse markers, moves, speech act sequences, discourse phases and silence. The final section of the volume examines discourse types and domains, providing a taxonomy of discourse types and focusing on a range of discourse domains, e.g. classroom discourse, medical discourse, legal discourse, electronic discourse. Each article surveys the current state of the art of the respective topic area while also presenting new research findings.
Download or read book Discourse and Politics written by Gloria Álvarez Benito and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on political discourse from a wide rage of settings and perspectives, this book is set to provide a descriptive and analytical tool for examining political discourse and will be welcomed by anyone interested in discourse analysis in general, and in political discourse in particular. Topics covered in this book include the study of political discourse styles, the use of rhetorical strategies (vocabulary, metaphors, quotations, parentheticals, etc.), the relation between political discourse and society (legitimization, the private-public interface, identities), role of gestures in relation to speech, methods for analysing political discourse, and how to build and exploit a political language corpus.
Download or read book Pragmatics and Grammar written by Mira Ariel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-10 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When using language, many aspects of our messages are left implicit in what we say. While grammar is responsible for what we express explicitly, pragmatics explains how we infer additional meanings. The problem is that it is not always a trivial matter to decide which of the meanings conveyed is explicit (grammatical) and which implicit (pragmatic). Pragmatics and Grammar lays out a methodology for students and scholars to distinguish between the two. It explains how and why grammar and pragmatics combine together in natural discourse, and how pragmatic uses become grammatical in time.
Download or read book Design and analysis of a novel kinematically redundant parallel robot with all actuators located at the base written by Zhou Zhou (Auteur de Design and analysis of a novel kinematically redundant parallel robot with all actuators located at the base) and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
