Book excerpt: La dysplasie du coude est une affection ostéo-articulaire invalidante, car très arthrogène, couramment rencontrée dans les races de grande taille comme le berger allemand. C’est pourquoi, de nombreuses races préconise un dépistage des reproducteurs. Dans une première partie, l’anatomie du coude et des articulations, la pathogénie de la dysplasie du coude et de l’arthrose puis les modalités du dépistage sont développées. Dans la seconde partie, nous avons étudié les résultats de dépistage officiel de 6153 berger allemand entre 1999 et 2012. La prévalence de la dysplasie de notre échantillon est de 14,18% et celle de l’arthrose de 21,73%. L’étude de l’arthrose nous a permis de montrer que les mâles ont 1,31 fois plus de risques de développer de l’arthrose et cela de manière significative. L’arthrose est présente chez 95,53% des coudes dysplasiques et la localisation préférentielle des ostéophytes est le processus anconé quelque soit la ou les lésions primaires de dysplasie. 19,55% des coudes dysplasiques sont diagnostiqués uniquement grâce aux lésions arthrosiques

Book excerpt: La dysplasie du coude est une affection ostéo-articulaire héréditaire, invalidante car très arthrogène, qui regroupe 4 lésions primaires et qui est fréquente chez les chiens de format moyen à grand, dont le berger allemand ; un dépistage systématique a été instauré dans la plupart des races affectées pour lutter contre la maladie. Dans la première partie, l’anatomie complexe du coude est rappelée, les aspects épidémiologiques, pathogéniques et physiopathologiques de la maladie sont développés puis les modalités du dépistage et ses difficultés sont détaillées. Dans la seconde partie, nous avons étudié les résultats du dépistage systématique chez le berger allemand en France sur une période de 10 ans et sur 6158 chiens. La prévalence de la maladie dans notre échantillon est de 14.2%, avec un rapport de risque mâles/femelles de 1.62. Il n’y pas de différence significative entre l’uni ou la bilatéralité de la dysplasie. La lésion primaire la plus fréquente est l’incongruence articulaire, présente chez 10.2% de la population étudiée, suivie par la fragmentation du processus coronoïde médial, présente chez 6.9% de la population. La prévalence de la non union du processus anconé est de 1.9%, plus faible que les chiffres publiés dans d’autres études menées dans la même race. 33.3% des coudes dysplasiques présentent une seule lésion, et 38.3 % présentent au moins deux lésions associées (voire 3 ou 4)
