Book excerpt: Que ce soit dans le domaine industriel, dans notre vie quotidienne ou même dans la nature, les phénomènes vibratoires sont largement présents dans notre environnement. La plupart du temps, nous les appréhendons comme des conséquences indésirables, voire nuisibles, du fonctionnement de systèmes. Toutefois, une nouvelle approche tend à les considérer comme une source intéressante d'information et d'énergie. Cette dualité est le fondement du cadre de ces travaux de thèse. Ces derniers traitent en effet de la capacité à utiliser une telle source d'énergie dans une loi de contrôle des vibrations d'une structure. Ainsi, l'énergie des vibrations d'une structure mécanique peut contribuer à contrôler ou atténuer les vibrations de celle-ci. Cette approche est tout particulièrement intéressante dans l'objectif d'un contrôle dit régénératif, qui vise à se substituer au contrôle dit actif, certes très efficace et performant mais exigeant vis-à-vis des ressources en énergie. La technique de contrôle présentée dans ce travail de recherche est appelée contrôle semi-actif global des vibrations parce qu'elle gère l'énergie globale du système mécanique de manière à augmenter les réserves énergétiques dans le but de diminuer la dépendance de la loi de contrôle d'une source d'énergie externe ou même l'éliminer (loi de contrôle autonome). De cette façon, les performances obtenues peuvent se rapprocher de celle d'une loi purement active. Les besoins énergétiques sont moindres grâce aux principes de stockage et de restitution d'énergie. La technique de récupération d'énergie est ici basée sur l'utilisation de matériaux piézoélectriques. Ce choix a été fait en considération des propriétés présentées par ces matériaux en terme de couplage électromécanique, d'encombrement et de masse. La réinjection de l'énergie résultante du processus de récupération d'énergie dans la loi de contrôle proposée est étudiée pour le cas d'un plot hybride à base d'actionneurs piézoélectriques.
