Book Contemporary Research in Behavioral Pharmacology

Download or read book Contemporary Research in Behavioral Pharmacology written by Derek Blackman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-10-08 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of drugs on behavior are of inherent interest and psycho pharmacology has provided a focus for research activity for many years. Until recently, however, it could be claimed that the contribution of pharmacology was more obvious than that of psychology in the de velopment of what should surely prove to be a matter for interdis ciplinary endeavor. Pharmacological analyses of drug action have frequently been expressed in terms of dose-response functions, for ex ample, with the dependent variable taking the form of patterns of be havior whose controlling influences were but poorly understood. The introduction of operant conditioning techniques has transformed psy chopharmacology in this respect. Operant analyses have traditionally emphasized the environmental determinants of behavior and have ex plored the behavioral outcomes of many different experimental ar rangements. These different behavioral repertoires have quickly proved to be of great importance in influencing the behavioral effects of drugs, and so psychologists have begun to playa role which better balances that of the pharmacologist in experimental psychophar macology. To reflect the development of these interdisciplinary studies, several excellent books have been published in recent years. These 1 have included introductory texts, collections of important experi mental reports which had appeared in learnedjournals,2 and authorita 3 tive handbooks which survey the current scene.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavioral pharmacology studies the biological bases of behavior and the pharmacological effects of natural or synthetic drugs through behavioral analysis, with the identification of substances that could contribute to improvement of the quality of life for humans. Through behavioral pharmacology, it is possible to generate knowledge about pharmacological bases that influence the normal or altered behavior from a multidisciplinary point of view, and which includes diverse areas of science. The purpose of this book “Behavioral Pharmacology- From Basic to Clinical Research” is to show some of the advances in the identification of pharmacological properties of natural and synthetic molecules that may be used in the development of pharmacological therapies destined for the treatment of illness and disorders that affect the wellness of humans.

Book Advances in Behavioral Pharmacology

Download or read book Advances in Behavioral Pharmacology written by N. Krasnegor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1986. This monograph is based on a conference sponsored by the Human Learning and Behavior Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NIH. The meeting that was held at the Xerox Center in Leesburg, Virginia, in August 1983, brought together a group of leading researchers for the purpose of providing an overview of the emerging field of developmental behavioral pharmacology. More specifically, as is evidenced by the chapters in this volume, the intent was to put the field into historical perspective, render a working definition, and outline strategies and tactics for conducting behavioral pharmacological research in the developing organism.
