Book Contemporary Obstetrics and Gynecology for Developing Countries

Download or read book Contemporary Obstetrics and Gynecology for Developing Countries written by Friday Okonofua and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and easy-to-read guide to obstetrics and gynecology in developing countries. Although significant progress has been made towards the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity globally, they are still unacceptably high in developing countries. This can be directly or indirectly tied to poor quality maternal health care and lack of access to cost-effective, comprehensive healthcare. Health practitioners in developing countries also contend with trying to keep abreast of recent developments in obstetrics and gynecology while dealing with lack of time, resources, and access to relevant information. This textbook was thus created by experts in obstetrics and gynecology with extensive experience in African clinical settings and consultants in developed countries to teach proper and accurate diagnosis, treatment and management of gynecologic and obstetric health issues within the context of developing countries. This second edition has been fully updated throughout with an added 25+ chapters that cover topics such as reproductive health, gynecological cancers and research methods. The book is divided into six sections: Women’s Reproductive Health; Obstetrics; Medical and Surgical Disorders in Pregnancy; General Gynecology; Gynecological Malignancies; Health Systems Organization, Research Methodology and Biostatistics. These section topics have been carefully covered by expert authors with the use of valid scientific data, policy instruments, and adapted to the cultural and social context of developing countries, with particular in depth coverage of conditions that have greater prevalence and incidence in developing countries. Each chapter also focuses on filling gaps in knowledge with a distinct pedagogical approach, starting with a set of learning objectives and ending with key takeaways for the chapter. This is an ideal guide for residents, medical students, practitioners of obstetrics and gynecology, midwives, general practitioners, and pediatricians, particularly those working in developing companies.

Book Obstetrics and Gynecology in Low Resource Settings

Download or read book Obstetrics and Gynecology in Low Resource Settings written by Nawal M. Nour and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-28 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to the growing need for tried-and-trusted solutions to the reproductive health care issues confronting millions of women worldwide, Obstetrics and Gynecology in Low-Resource Settings provides practical guidelines for ensuring the delivery of quality OB/GYN care to women in resource-poor countries. Including contributions from leading clinicians and researchers in the field, this welcome overview fills an important gap in existing medical literature on women’s health care and will be an invaluable resource for doctors, clinicians, and medical students at all stages of their careers who work in the global health arena. The reproductive health risks that all women face are greatly exacerbated when health care facilities are inadequate, equipment and medications are in short supply, and well-trained medical staff are few and far away. Often in these settings, the sole doctor or medical professional on hand has expertise in some areas of women’s reproductive care but needs a refresher course in others. This informative guide features hands-on, step-by-step instruction for the most pertinent OB/GYN conditions—both acute and chronic—that health care workers in the field confront. The authors examine a wide range of topics, including: strategies to reduce maternal mortality and stillbirths; infectious and sexually transmitted diseases, including malaria and HIV; cervical cancer; contraception; prenatal, delivery, and newborn care; and complications arising from gender-based violence and female genital cutting. Published in a convenient format with a durable binding, this reference will be an essential companion to health care providers throughout the world.

Book Distribution of Resources in the Nigerian Health Care System

Download or read book Distribution of Resources in the Nigerian Health Care System written by Anthony Okechukwu Nnadi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, representing the doctoral dissertation of Rev. Fr. Anthony Okechukwu Nnadi examines the healthcare system in Nigeria in the light of the Catholic social teaching. He supports that the allocation of health care resources is not only a matter of organization, but is also an ethical problem. The debacles and failure of the Nigerian health system, result from many factors including lack of will to implement the right policies on the ground, corruption among the leaders, lack of justice, lack of respect for the dignity of each human person, mismanagement, and insufficient consideration and application of ethical principles in the administration of common good, especially in the distribution of health care and social resources. For the distribution of health care resources, this doctoral dissertation suggests that priority be given to the basic health care needs of Nigerian citizens especially those who have no means of satisfying these needs themselves. In this context, the research affirms that great attention needs to be paid to ensuring that the principle of human dignity is completely respected in each and every policy in this important area. This doctoral thesis is an ethical vision of social reality in Nigeria. It proposes the person-centred Catholic principles as a possible way forward in the distribution of health care resources in Nigeria. It does not imply substituting the economic, political and health care experts in offering technical solutions in their areas of competence. The author is convinced that healthcare allocation is also an ethical issue that needs to be governed by ethical principles. The key factors for choosing this theme are based on the author’s knowledge of the deplorable condition of the health care system in Nigeria and his desire to save human lives. Rev. Fr. Anthony Okechukwu Nnadi believes that we are all stewards of human life. This implies a moral obligation to protect the dignity of the human person, which is inseparable from protecting human life.

Book Evaluation and Management of High Risk Pregnancies Emerging Research and Opportunities

This book was released on 2020-07-10 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complications during and after pregnancy and birth result in hundreds of thousands of deaths each year and can lead to lifelong health problems. Even with these complications, however, early detection and prenatal care can further reduce risk to the mother and baby. However, inadequate medical services, shortage of medical resources, and lack of or misinformation can hinder a woman’s ability to successfully manage her pregnancy. This not only affects the health of the people immediately concerned and their families, but also has implications for global stability and the balance between population and resources. Evaluation and Management of High-Risk Pregnancies: Emerging Research and Opportunities is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on safeguarding mothers and babies through the availability of medical knowledge, cost-effective interventions, and the availability of widespread obstetric services. While highlighting topics such as labor complications, maternal mortality, and reproductive health, this publication explores exposure to sexually transmitted diseases as well as the methods of physical and mental healthcare. This book is ideally designed for obstetricians, gynecologists, world health organizations, policymakers, hospitals, health professionals, reproduction researchers, and physicians.
