Book Conceptual Foundations for Multidisciplinary Thinking

Download or read book Conceptual Foundations for Multidisciplinary Thinking written by Stephen Jay Kline and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our current intellectual system provides us with a far more complete and accurate understanding of nature and ourselves than was available in any previous society. This gain in understanding has arisen from two sources: the use of the 'scientific method', and the breaking up of our intellectual enterprise into increasingly narrower disciplines and research programs. However, we have failed to keep these narrow specialities connected to the intellectual enterprise as a whole. The author demonstrates that this causes a number of difficulties. We have no viewpoint from which we can understand the relationships between the disciplines and lack a forum for adjudicating situations where different disciplines give conflicting answers to the same problem. We seriously underestimate the differences in methodology and in the nature of principles in the various branches of science. This provocative and wide-ranging book provides a detailed analysis and possible solutions for dealing with this problem.

Book Sociology

Download or read book Sociology written by Stephen H. Aby and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 550 of the major reference sources in sociology, its subdisciplines, and some related disciplines are identified and described in this new edition of Aby's critically acclaimed book. Emphasis is on works in English published in the last decade-indexes, bibliographies, handbooks, databases, World Wide Web sites, dictionaries, and other print and electronic reference and information sources-but some classic sources in other languages or that precede this period are included. Virtually all sources in the book have been thoroughly examined and described by the compiler. The addition of approximately 250 new titles and electronic sources, as well as updates and the inclusion of new editions of previously cited titles, makes this a substantial revision of and complement to the first edition. A valuable resource for librarians, faculty, and undergraduate and graduate students, this book will also be useful to researchers.

Book Multidisciplinary Perspectives on the Psychology of Exclusion

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Perspectives on the Psychology of Exclusion written by Agnieszka Wilczyńska and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new volume considers one of the most pressing topics of the generation: the sense of social exclusion, rejection and loneliness experienced by many adolescents and young adults. It offers insights from psychological and biochemical research, explaining the role of the brain, mind and body in the development of a sense of belonging over the lifespan. Illustrated with examples of the consequences of exclusion drawn from the author’s clinical work, this important work surveys the latest research in the field and introduces an innovative framework for understanding the development of a sense of belonging. Wilczyńska considers the effects of social exclusion, exploring its consequences for mental health, particularly amongst young people, and reveals how transgenerational trauma imprinted at the early stages of human development impacts lifelong development. Including a foreword by Philip Zimbardo, Multidisciplinary Perspectives on the Psychology of Exclusion is essential reading for students and researchers of developmental psychology, social psychology and sociology. It will also be of interest to practitioners and policymakers working with children and young people to understand and mitigate the effects of social exclusion and loneliness.
