Una herramienta clave y necesaria –aprobada en septiembre del año 2015 por los 193 Estados que componen la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas– que promueve una prosperidad económica compartida, el desarrollo social y la protección ambiental para todos los países. Cambiar el mundo explica por qué la Agenda 2030, y los diecisiete Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) asociados a ella, es la mejor respuesta a esos desafíos globales que afectan tanto a países desarrollados como en vías de desarrollo y cómo las empresas juegan un papel fundamental si asumen la función de liderar el cambio. Además, los autores presentan casos e iniciativas de empresas y organizaciones con valores como CaixaBank, Leroy Merlin, Repsol, BASF, Iberdrola o Fundación “la Caixa” que están en primera línea de acción ante una emergencia sanitaria como la actual y que han sabido incorporar a su estrategia los ODS más relevantes para ellas. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach

This volume highlights examples of circular economy practices in developing country contexts in relation to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), informal sector recycling and national policy approaches.
