This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Britain does not have a written constitution. It has rather, over centuries, developed a set of miscellaneous conventions, rules, and norms that govern political behavior. By contrast, Bosnia’s constitution was written, quite literally, overnight in a military hanger in Dayton, USA, to conclude a devastating war. By most standards it does not work and is seen to have merely frozen a conflict and all development with it. What might these seemingly unrelated countries be able to teach each other? Britain, racked by recent crises from Brexit to national separatism, may be able to avert long-term political conflict by understanding the pitfalls of writing rigid constitutional rules without popular participation or the cultivation of good political culture. Bosnia, in turn, may be able to thaw its frozen conflict by subjecting parts of its written constitution to amendment, with civic involvement, on a fixed and regular basis; a ’revolving constitution’ to replicate some of that flexibility inherent in the British system. A book not just about Bosnia and Britain; a standard may be set for other plural, multi-ethnic polities to follow.
Download or read book The Constitutions of the Communist World written by William B. Simons and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The written contributions compiled in this book are based upon lectures held during a symposium on the administrative law implementation & enforcement of community law organized by the Directorate General Financial Control & the Dutch Law Association for the Study of Protection of Financial Interests of the EC. The topic is regarded from the perspective of both administrative practice & administrative law. While concentrating on the Dutch case the arguments put forward should also be of interest to the other EC countries since they also have to deal with both community law & national administrative law. Furthermore the book sheds light upon the development of community law in general. The importance of national administrative law for the putting into practice of community law is a topic which has received increasing attention from both the sides of administrative practice & legal science. At the same time it is clear that administrative law has acquired more & more community tasks & obligations. The latter development might point towards an European version of administrative law in the future.

It was a member of the League of Nations. Albania became independent on November 28, 1912, after centuries of Ottoman domination. Its existence was recognized internationally after the First Balkan War on July 28, 1913, and an international control commission drew up a constitution in 1914, providing for a monarchy with a National Assembly most of whose members were elected by the people. 4 Albania Although a neutral state, Albania became involved in the First World War, after which, in January 1920, the Albanian chiefs drew up a new constitution providing for a monarchy. In 1925, Albania was proclaimed a republic and a new constitution, based on the United States constitution, was promulgated. In 1928, the President became King and a new consti tution followed. On April 7, 1939, Italy occupied Albania and imposed a constitution providing that Albania was a monarchy under the House of Savoy. On April6, 1941, martial law was proclaimed throughout the country. After the Italian capitulation in 1943, Albania was occupied by Germany. The Albanian Communist Party was founded in November 1941, and the bases of the communist regime were laid at the second national confer ence in July 1943 of the Movement for National Liberation, created by the Party to unite and control all the forces opposing foreign occupation. This conference created Councils of National Liberation.
Download or read book Area Handbook for Albania written by William Giloane and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-25 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Area Handbook for Albania' seeks to present an overview of the various social, political, and economic aspects of the country as they appeared in 1970. The leaders of the Communist Party have gone to extremes to maintain an aura of secrecy about their nation and their efforts to govern it. Material on Albania is scanty and some that is available is not reliable but, using their own judgments on sources, the authors have striven for objectivity in this effort to depict Albanian society in 1970.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Constitution speaks in general terms of liberty and property, of the privileges and immunities of citizens, and of the equal protection of the laws--open-ended phrases that seem to invite readers to reflect in them their own visions and agendas. Yet, recognizing that the Constitution cannot be merely what its interpreters wish it to be, this volume's authors draw on literary and mathematical analogies to explore how the fundamental charter of American government should be construed today.
Download or read book The Constitution in Conflict written by Robert A. Burt and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a remarkably innovative reconstruction of constitutional history, Robert Burt traces the controversy over judicial supremacy back to the founding fathers. Also drawing extensively on Lincoln's conception of political equality, Burt argues convincingly that judicial supremacy and majority rule are both inconsistent with the egalitarian democratic ideal. The first fully articulated presentation of the Constitution as a communally interpreted document in which the Supreme Court plays an important but not predominant role, The Constitution in Conflict has dramatic implications for both the theory and the practice of constitutional law.

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Albania written by Robert Elsie and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2010-03-19 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albania is not well known by outsiders; it was deliberately closed to the outside world during the communist era. Now it has thankfully become free again, its borders are open and it can be visited, and it is increasingly integrating with the rest of Europe and beyond. Unfortunately, Albania has had its share of problems in the post-communist era; it's a land of destitution and despair, thanks in part to the Albanian mafia, which has turned the country into one of blood-feuds, kalashnikovs, and eternal crises. Yet, Albania is, in essence, a European nation like any other and will soon, it is to be hoped, advance and take its proper place in Europe and the world. The second edition of the Historical Dictionary of Albania relates the history of this little-known country through a detailed chronology, an introduction, a bibliography, appendixes, and over 700 cross-referenced dictionary entries on significant persons, places, and events; institutions and organizations; and political, economic, social, cultural, and religious facets.

Download or read book History of Law in Albania written by Argita Malltezi and published by Böhlau Wien. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first bibliography that focuses on the legal research conducted on Albanian history of law. It is also a tribute to the generations of researchers to whom we owe the decades-long research and collection of Albanian customary law, on both domestic and foreign legal systems, applicable in Albanian lands during the Roman, Byzantine and the Ottoman occupation, and later, on the transformations that occurred under the independent Albanian state and its different forms of regimes. Each publication included in this book comes with a short summary and directions on how to locate it, making it very practical for readers to find exactly what they need. Although originally it started with the aim of helping researchers of law and jurists, due to the nature of the publications it contains, this book also has valuable resources for researchers of various disciplines: from social anthropologists to philosophers, historians, and even the general public who wants to know more about the evolution of law throughout Albanian territories.
