Book The Valuation of Outdoor Recreation in a Multiple use Forest

Download or read book The Valuation of Outdoor Recreation in a Multiple use Forest written by Kenneth C. Gibbs and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors describe a consistent and theoretically sound methodology for evaluating nonmarket uses of forest resources, particularly those associated with recreation. The analytical methodology is applied to a forest management unit. Present net worth of developed campgrounds and dispersed recreation activities on Oregon State Department of Forestry Lands in 1977 were estimated as $4.26 and $7.92 per visitor-day, respectively. Although these results are unique to the resource base analyzed, the application typifies the procedures employed, the type of data required, and the kinds of answers the technique can provide. The model can easily be adapted to different situations by changing assumptions and conditions.

Book The New Economics of Outdoor Recreation

Download or read book The New Economics of Outdoor Recreation written by Nick Hanley and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a series of analyses of the economics of outdoor recreation, this book covers real-world recreation management issues and applies economic understanding to these problems. The book is divided into three parts, each of which focuses on a specific environmental resource: mountains, forests and rivers and the sea. An array of valuation methods - including stated preference and revealed preference techniques - are then applied to various outdoor recreation activities which occur in these different settings. These include such diverse pursuits as rock climbing, skiing, fishing, hunting and whale watching. The authors clearly demonstrate how recreation modelling can offer a productive link between people (their preferences and behaviour) and the natural environment.
