La quantification s'appuie sur des appareils de mesure (jauges, capteurs) et sur la modélisation des structures (visant, notamment, à une évaluation des capacités porteuses). Les actions font appel à des disciplines scientifiques variées (chimie, résistance des matériaux, géotechnique...) et doivent tenir compte des innovations constantes dans ces domaines.
