Book Ecology of the Columbia Spotted Frog in Northeastern Oregon

Download or read book Ecology of the Columbia Spotted Frog in Northeastern Oregon written by Evelyn L. Bull and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Columbia spotted frog (Rana luteiventris) is one of several amphibians in the Western United States experiencing population declines. The breeding, postbreeding, and overwintering habitat and ecology of this species were investigated in 10 study sites in northeastern Oregon from 1997 through 2004. A variety of habitats with permanent water were used as breeding sites and as postbreeding habitat during the summer. Ice-covered ponds, warm springs, rivers, and seeps in forested habitats were used for overwintering. Diet consisted of a wide variety of mollusks and arthropods with beetles, ants, wasps, and flies composing more than 50 percent. Population size was as high as 135 females at one site, and ratios of males to females ranged from 1.0 to 2.8. The oldest male and female were 9.7 and 8.7 years old, respectively, based on skeletochronology. Males reached sexual maturity at 1 year 9 months after metamorphosis and most females at 2 years 9 months after metamorphosis. One female laid eggs in up to 3 consecutive years. Size (snout-vent length) was not a good indicator of age in frogs older than 2 years. Long-term monitoring is necessary to determine the effects of a variety of disturbance factors and chytrid fungus that could influence spotted frog populations in northeastern Oregon.

Book Conservation Agreement and Conservation Strategy for Columbia Spotted Frogs Rana Luteiventris in Nevada

Download or read book Conservation Agreement and Conservation Strategy for Columbia Spotted Frogs Rana Luteiventris in Nevada written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Conservation Agreement (Agreement) has been developed to assist in the implementation of conservation measures for Columbia spotted frogs (Rana luteiventris) in Nevada, as a collaborative and cooperative effort among resource agencies, governments, and landowners. The desired outcome is to ensure the long-term conservation of the Columbia spotted frog within its historical range and to contribute to development of statewide conservation efforts for this species. The parties to this Agreement believe that implementing the conservation measures herein defined will benefit the Columbia spotted frog and should reduce the likelihood for its listing under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (ESA)...A previous ten-year Conservation Agreement and Strategy was signed and implemented in 2003"--Page A-1.

Book Amphibian Ecology and Conservation

Statistical modelling, landscape ecology, and disease are covered for the first time in a techniques handbook.

Book Key to the Herpetofauna of the Continental United States and Canada

Download or read book Key to the Herpetofauna of the Continental United States and Canada written by Robert Powell and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2019-07-26 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This profusely illustrated comprehensive key for identifying amphibians and reptiles from the continental United States and Canada incorporates a wealth of scientific findings. Since the first edition was published in 1998 and the second in 2012, the number of currently recognized species of native amphibians and reptiles in the area covered by this key has increased from 545 to 634 to 685, and the number of established non-native species has increased from 39 to 58 to 67. The increase in native taxa reflects the dynamic nature of modern systematics and the use of new (especially molecular) techniques to elucidate relationships and redefine species boundaries. The increase in non-native species reflects the porosity of the North American borders when it comes to controlling animal imports. The key is easy to use and illustrated with outstanding line drawings that show details of color patterns and structures used for identification. To accommodate the additional taxa, the number of line drawings in this third edition has increased from 257 to 279 to 295. In addition, nine maps illustrate the distributions of species that have been recognized since the publication of maps in the most recent editions of the Peterson Field Guides to the reptiles and amphibians of eastern, central, and western North America. A large number of annotations detail current taxonomic ambiguities or disagreements and the literature cited has been expanded. Collectively these features enhance opportunities to teach and learn the classification and identification of amphibians and reptiles in the continental United States and Canada.

Book Conservation Agreement and Strategy Columbia Spotted Frog Rana Luteiventris Great Basin Population Nevada

Download or read book Conservation Agreement and Strategy Columbia Spotted Frog Rana Luteiventris Great Basin Population Nevada written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Conservation Agreement (Agreement) has been developed to expedite implementation of the conservation measures for the Columbia spotted frog (Rana luteiventris) in the Jarbidge - Independence and the Ruby Mount subpopulation areas, northeastern Nevada, as a collaborative and cooperative effort among resource agencies, governments, and land owners. The desired outcome is to ensure the long-term conservation of the northeastern Nevada (NENV) Columbia spotted frog within its historic range, and to contribute to development of statewide conservation efforts for the Great basin population of the species. The parties to this Agreement believe implementing the conservation measures herein defined will benefit NENV subpopulations of the Columbia spotted frog and could reduce the likelihood for its listing under the Endangered Species act of 1973, as amended - Page A-1.
