Book Connecting Curriculum Linking Learning

Download or read book Connecting Curriculum Linking Learning written by Deborah Fraser and published by Nzcer Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Teachers and principals know that students learn best when involved, challenged and inspired. An integrated curriculum offers teachers the tools to engage, extend and enthuse students. Yet today's curriculum seems to be narrowing and becoming restrictive. Assessment-driven teaching, reporting to standards and a pronounced emphasis on individual learning in numeracy and literacy now hold sway. Is it possible to balance standards with innovation? What scope is there for teachers and principals to use their initiative? And what of children's learning as they engage in a curriculum that matters to them? Here, an integrated curriculum - negotiated, issues driven, focused on relevant learning areas, with teachers scaffolding learning - offers exciting potential while still enabling the learning of important skills in literacy and numeracy. But there is a chasm in the literature on curriculum integration. Connecting Curriculum, Linking Learning bridges that chasm. Based on current New Zealand classroom research, this book provides vivid portraits of teachers' practice, and reveals the strengths and weaknesses of an integrated approach. Featuring drama as inquiry alongside other arts-inspired approaches to integration, Connecting Curriculum, Linking Learning reflects the ethos of the New Zealand curriculum"--Publisher's description.

Book Transnational Radicalism and the Connected Lives of Tom Mann and Robert Samuel Ross

Download or read book Transnational Radicalism and the Connected Lives of Tom Mann and Robert Samuel Ross written by Neville Kirk and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an original study of the connected lives of two important socialists, Tom Mann (1856-1941) and Robert Samuel 'Bob' Ross (1873-1931). Born in Britain, Mann travelled the globe as a tireless socialist organiser and propagandist who met Ross in the course of his political work in Australia. They then worked closely together as labour editors, educators, trade unionists and socialists in Australia and New Zealand between 1902 and 1913. Thereafter, they continued regularly to correspond with one another and other socialists in Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the Pacific Rim. Based upon extensive research into neglected primary and secondary sources in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and related places, this book explores the careers and lives of Mann and Ross as paired transnational radicals, as leaders who crossed national and other boundaries in order to promote their socialism. It situates them within the neglected English-speaking and even global radical worlds of the later nineteenth- and early twentieth-centuries, a period that constituted an early phase of globalisation. Breaking new ground in moving beyond the national focus which has dominated much of the relevant history, this book highlights both the importance of Mann's and Ross's transnational endeavours, attachments and identities and the ways in which these interacted with their national, sub-national and international spheres of activity, striking a chord with a wide variety of radicals seeking change in today's globalised world.

Book Nature and Wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand

Download or read book Nature and Wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand written by Catherine Knight and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We have never been more aware of the benefit of being out in [Nature], but how much quality time does the 'average' New Zealander spend enjoying the outdoors? While our national parks are places of spectacular wilderness, for many of us, these places are out of reach. This ... book argues for the restoration of 'neighbourhood nature' - places that all New Zealanders can freely access, irrespective of socioeconomic or other factors. New Zealand's experience of the coronavirus pandemic underscores how important these local oases of [Nature] are - and how vital they are to our wellbeing."--Back cover.
