Book Conflict Management and the Apostle Paul

Download or read book Conflict Management and the Apostle Paul written by Scot McKnight and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Churches often find themselves in the middle of conflict. These conflicts can exist between people within the church, between the leaders and congregation, or even between churches themselves. Leaders often turn to Scripture for guidance in resolving these conflicts. However, the Bible does not outline or even discuss conflict management. In fact, various biblical figures--from ancient Israelite kings to New Testament apostles--all uniquely approach conflict. Does the Bible have a "theory of conflict management"? In Conflict Management and the Apostle Paul, the authors explore how Paul approached conflicts with his close associates like Barnabas and Peter, and with his mission churches like those in Galatia and Corinth. Conflict Management and the Apostle Paul distinctively sketches how various theories of conflict management used today shed light on Paul's own approaches to conflict while also evaluating the conflicts themselves. The authors in this volume are pastors and church workers who themselves bring their own experiences with conflict into play as they seek wisdom from the New Testament.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This, then, is not just a book about conflict; it is also a book about caring. It is a book that explains why conflict develops, often among some of the finest people and in some of the best churches. What may be unique is that the book also suggests how conflict and caring interact. Caring is not only advocated, but described within various types of conflict. This is not an easy task. We often don't know of an appropriate expression of caring in a particular conflict.

Book Paul and Conflict Resolution

Download or read book Paul and Conflict Resolution written by Robinson Butarbutar and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a literary and historical exegesis of Paul's apostolic paradigm in 1 Corinthians 9. The author argues that chapter 9 is part and parcel of Paul's unified arguments of 1 Corinthians 8-10, which are written to mediate in a dispute over food offered to idols. The questions of how the dispute emerged, how Paul arranges his arguments in the three chapters, and what role 1 Corinthians 9 has in the overall discourse are addressed carefully in the book. Moreover, the question of why Paul and his coworkers did not receive financial support from his audience, which was contrary to the practice of the other missionaries and the normal workforce of the time, and of why he uses such a practice as an example to be imitated by those insisting on their right to eat food offered to idols, are dealt with judiciously. Based on his exegesis of 1 Corinthians 9, the author furthermore attempts to see the relevance of 1 Corinthians 9 for dispute resolution today, taking the conflict within his own church as an example.

Book Managing Conflict Creatively 30th Anniversary Edition

Download or read book Managing Conflict Creatively 30th Anniversary Edition written by Donald C. Palmer and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the Bible say about conflict resolution? Nobody likes conflict, especially when both parties are “part of the same team.” Unresolved conflict can lead to missionary attrition, but healthy conflict-resolution can be a wonderful growth opportunity, leading to problem-solving and team-building. In Managing Conflict Creatively, Dr. Palmer first introduces the dynamics of conflict and the common styles of conflict management. After providing a Biblical background, he then identifies types of conflict and how to develop conflict management skills, specifically in cross-cultural situations. Lose your fear of conflict as you walk through case studies, engage in discussion questions, and learn to: Identify the stages of conflict and steps of healthy problem solving Encourage healthy conflict resolution in its early stages Identify your personal conflict style and the characteristics of an effective moderator Overreact less amid conflict Consciously choose a conflict-resolution style tailored to each situation Disagree well and resolve conflicts and misunderstandings without harming your witness Manage conflict in positive ways that foster growth and collaboration This manual is intended to serve as a teaching tool and a study guide for cross-cultural conflict management courses in Bible colleges, mission organizations, and churches. Thirty years after its original publication, this practical, Bible-centered approach to the dynamics of conflict and conflict management in cross-cultural situations remains relevant, both abroad and in today’s hybrid cities.

Book The Agency of the Apostle

Download or read book The Agency of the Apostle written by Jeffrey A. Crafton and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this interdisciplinary study Paul's enigmatic rhetoric in 2 Corinthians is analysed and explained using dramatism, a modern critical theory developed by Kenneth Burke. Three portions of 2 Corinthians are isolated and examined as fitting responses to dintinct stages in Paul's changing relationship to the Corinthian Christians. In the Letter of Initial Response (2.14-7.4), Paul responds to the beginning of the conflict with an argument defined by the opposition between 'agency' and 'agent' conceptions of ministry. In the Letter of Attack (chs. 10-13), Paul replies to the apex of the crisis by playing the role of the foolish agent in order to gain a hearing and drive the Corinthians out of their orientation. In the Letter of Reconciliation (1.3-2.13 + 7.5-16), Paul rehearses the symbolic purification which has occurred in this conflict.
