Book excerpt: The discipline of user experience (UX) design has matured into a confident practice and this edition reflects, and in some areas accelerates, that evolution. Technically this is the second edition of The UX Book, but so much of it is new, it is more like a sequel. One of the major positive trends in UX is the continued emphasis on design—a kind of design that highlights the designer's creative skills and insights and embodies a synthesis of technology with usability, usefulness, aesthetics, and meaningfulness to the user. In this edition a new conceptual top-down design framework is introduced to help readers with this evolution. This entire edition is oriented toward an agile UX lifecycle process, explained in the funnel model of agile UX, as a better match to the now de facto standard agile approach to software engineering. To reflect these trends, even the subtitle of the book is changed to "Agile UX design for a quality user experience. Designed as a how-to-do-it handbook and field guide for UX professionals and a textbook for aspiring students, the book is accompanied by in-class exercises and team projects. The approach is practical rather than formal or theoretical. The primary goal is still to imbue an understanding of what a good user experience is and how to achieve it. To better serve this, processes, methods, and techniques are introduced early to establish process-related concepts as context for discussion in later chapters. - Winner of a 2020 Textbook Excellence Award (College) (Texty) from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association - A comprehensive textbook for UX/HCI/Interaction Design students readymade for the classroom, complete with instructors' manual, dedicated web site, sample syllabus, examples, exercises, and lecture slides - Features HCI theory, process, practice, and a host of real world stories and contributions from industry luminaries to prepare students for working in the field - The only HCI textbook to cover agile methodology, design approaches, and a full, modern suite of classroom material (stemming from tried and tested classroom use by the authors)

Book excerpt: Get Into UX book is a career advice book written to help new and experienced designers get unstuck in their pursuits to get UX jobs. The UX field has been booming for years, and as a result, a landslide of new talent has been flooding the market. All of the newcomers want to learn user experience design or research as fast as possible and get paid professional positions. However, only a fraction of them breaks into the field. On the one hand, you have young designers struggling to find jobs, and on the other hand, managers who can’t find enough experienced talent. Often this is attributed to uninformed gurus, hasty bootcamps and other get-into-UX-quick schemes that overpromise, but never make anyone fully market-ready. Why do they not work? As a discipline, UX is too complex to graduate into overnight. It requires months and often years of commitment to do it justice. That doesn’t mean you cannot shorten this journey. This book is a foolproof guide to correct course and help UX researchers and designers like you focus on the right things to get the job you want. Every chapter is written to give you insights and practical tools that you need to: Set yourself apart from the majority of entry and junior-level applicants by genuinely understanding what UX is and what it isn't; It's time to distil user experience design into an effective workflow that adds clarity and pulls you out of the crowd of the unsure. Set up your UX career for long term success; learn the craft that is challenging, rewarding and futureproof. This means buckling up for the long term development but starting now. Overcome the self-sabotaging actions by focusing on the right things. Have you ever wondered why some UX designers get ahead quickly, and others don’t? Hint: it's rarely to do with external factors. Shorten your journey from beginner to pro by using field-proven strategies and specific tactics. You’ll learn how to go from awareness to 'can do' without getting stuck. Ace your UX portfolio, resumes, and interviews by showcasing your skills in the right way and for the right audiences. We'll unpack the essentials and the small yet critical detail to get your foot in the door. In this book you will find a few sections with the following progressive to your journey chapters: I: Understand what UX is and what it isn’t II: Plan your future in UX III: Gain a deep understanding of UX IV: Practice UX and collect the evidence along the way V: Demonstrate the evidence VI: Get the job VII: Build forward momentum About the author Vy (Vytautas) Alechnavicius is a design leader, seasoned and award-winning user experience and user research team manager, hiring manager and design educator to many. Over the past decade, Vy has been involved in UX driven projects from public services, healthcare, finance, transport, retail, and many other industries. Vy has established and grown small-to-large experience design and research teams, mentored and up-skilled the up-and-coming UX designers, and helped shape local and wider-reach design communities. Book Self Publishing In Overseas POD Markets

Download or read book Self Publishing In Overseas POD Markets written by Yeong Hwan Choi and published by epubli. This book was released on 2024-04-13 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often, Amazon comes to mind as a way of self-publishing e-books or paper books overseas. However, when I used international platforms such as Amazon KDP, tens of thousands of copies were posted a day. Likewise, Google Books and Apple Books were the same unless paid marketing was conducted. So I looked into various overseas self-publishing platforms. I started going into the semi-international platforms such as Kobo, Everand, Tolino, Barents & Novele, Overdrive, and SmashWords. And after visiting the Eurozone, South America, India, and Asia, where retailers are connected, I learned how to distribute them overseas. Overseas people use Google, an international search engine, but they do not use Naver. However, for Koreans, the sites such as Naver are public platforms. Likewise, the Eurozone, North America, India, and China each had local platforms distributed in local commercial districts. Even in the Eurozone, North America, and Oceania, it is easy to set up an account with Payonia and PayPal. I think reading this book can save us a lot of time because we have analyzed free/paid, distributed, platforms that are difficult to inspect depending on the content, and tax issues. It's time for us to earn foreign currency, too.

Book The UX Five Second Rules

Download or read book The UX Five Second Rules written by Paul Doncaster and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The five-second test is one of the most convenient rapid UX testing methods available, although its value can be compromised by ignoring the restrictions of the method. The Five-Second Rules uses detailed examples from a collection of more than 300 tests to describe the strengths and weaknesses of this rapid testing method. Readers will learn about the "five-second rules" for getting useful data, and will explore what types of design issues can be resolved by using the method. A five-second test (also known as "timeout test" and "exposure test") involves displaying a visual or informational design for five seconds, removing it from view, then asking what aspects were recalled most easily or vividly. The goal is to understand what stands out most about a design or product, and the impact on the viewer's perception of it. - Describes the origins of the method and its usefulness in modern UX design research and testing - Conveys the need to structure tests carefully so that time, effort, and money are not wasted, and compiled data is not misleading - Fosters an appreciation for the method's outcomes and how they can contribute to the success or failure of a proposed design
