Book Confessions of a Tea Leaf Reader

Download or read book Confessions of a Tea Leaf Reader written by Tanya Lester and published by I.C. Art. This book was released on 2010 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A light opened in Tanya Lester's third eye when a friend talked about searching for a tea leaf reader to entertain her guests at a tea party. "You know, I think this is the time for me to learn how to tea leaf read," Tanya said. She picked up an old book on tea leaf reading that she had bought years earlier in another Canadian city. Over the years, she had thought often about discarding it at one of her yard sales. It refused to leave her. Automatically, her arm always placed it back on her bookshelf. Opening that book changed forever the direction in which her life was going. This book is the story of how a form of energy healing called Reiki and Tanya's ancestral spirits-one of whom lived in the middle east during the twelfth century-helped her find her passion and bliss. It describes how she uses her intuition to interpret the pictures in the loose tea leaves of her clients' cups to guide them into their futures. Stories of love, death, murder, violence, family, financial success and failure, sickness and health, travel, relationships, work, poverty and wealth, the famous and infamous, and pleasure and excruciating pain are told as Tanya remembers some of the numerous readings that she has given to people from all walks of life. It is a spirited book from a woman filled with spiritual guidance and blessed as a channel for Higher Power. She has written it as if engaged in conversation with you, the reader. This book is a rare inside look into the life of a tea leaf reader, including information on how to do tea leaf readings. You will not want to put it down. Tanya Lester, BA, is a master tea leaf reader who has read thousands of tea cups and done hundreds of tea leaf reading workshops since 1996. She has done this work in places as diverse as Glasgow, Scotland; Boulder, Colorado; and in Canada, in Whitehorse, Yukon; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Vancouver, BC; in many communities on Vancouver Island, including Victoria; in the West and East Kootenay Mountains, including Nelson, Castlegar, and Fernie, BC; and on Pender Island; as well, of course, as on Salt Spring Island, BC, where she lives. She does her workshops at university and college continuing education centres, at recreational centres, and in homes. She has the heart and soul of a gypsy tea leaf reader. If you have somewhere, anywhere in the world, where you would like her to come and do readings, please contact her at [email protected], go to her website. Tanya Lester, BA, has published three other books: Dreams & Tricksters, Women Rights/Writes, and Friends I Never Knew. Her adult son, Luke, lives in Victoria, BC.

Book China Watcher

Download or read book China Watcher written by Richard Baum and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This audacious and illuminating memoir by Richard Baum, a senior China scholar and sometime policy advisor, reflects on forty years of learning about and interacting with the People’s Republic of China, from the height of Maoism during the author’s UC Berkeley student days in the volatile 1960s through globalization. Anecdotes from Baum’s professional life illustrate the alternately peculiar, frustrating, fascinating, and risky activity of China watching — the process by which outsiders gather and decipher official and unofficial information to figure out what’s really going on behind China’s veil of political secrecy and propaganda. Baum writes entertainingly, telling his narrative with witty stories about people, places, and eras. China Watcher will appeal to scholars and followers of international events who lived through the era of profound political and academic change described in the book, as well as to younger, post-Mao generations, who will enjoy its descriptions of the personalities and political forces that shaped the modern field of China studies.

Book Confessions Of A Faceless Man

Download or read book Confessions Of A Faceless Man written by Paul Howes and published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11-08 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2010 federal election campaign had more twists, conspiracies and betrayals than a ripping political thriller. Confessions of a Faceless Man is the day-by-day account of the campaign by one of Labor's 'faceless men'. Paul Howes, head of the Australian Workers' Union, was accused of assassinating Kevin Rudd and installing Gillard in the top job - the King is dead; long live the Queen. Howes writes openly about his role in the leadership coup and reveals his experience inside Labor's campaign. In an unashamedly partisan and amusing account, Confessions of a Faceless Man chronicles the highs and lows, the stuff-ups, the leaks and the nuts and bolts of a modern Labor election campaign. This is Howes' first book - an unvarnished, brutally honest, at times laugh-out-loud account of how Labor won 2010.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People in Merit, Wisconsin, always said Jimmy was . . . you know. But people said all sorts of stupid stuff. Nobody really knew anything. Nobody really knew Jimmy. I guess you could say I knew Jimmy as well as anyone (which was not very well). I knew what scared him. And I knew he had dreams—even if I didn't understand them. Even if he nearly ruined my life to pursue them. Jimmy's dead now, and I definitely know that better than anyone. I know about blood and bone and how bodies decompose. I know about shadows and stones and hatchets. I know what a last cry for help sounds like. I know what blood looks like on my own hands. What I don't know is if I can trust my own eyes. I don't know who threw the stone. Who swung the hatchet? Who are the shadows? What do the living owe the dead?

Book Reading the Global

Download or read book Reading the Global written by Sanjay Krishnan and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2007-07-24 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global is an instituted perspective, not just an empirical process. Adopted initially by the British in order to make sense of their polyglot territorial empire, the global perspective served to make heterogeneous spaces and nonwhite subjects "legible," and in effect produced the regions it sought merely to describe. The global was the dominant perspective from which the world was produced for representation and control. It also set the terms within which subjectivity and history came to be imagined by colonizers and modern anticolonial nationalists. In this book, Sanjay Krishnan demonstrates how ideas of the global took root in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century descriptions of Southeast Asia. Krishnan turns to the works of Adam Smith, Thomas De Quincey, Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir, and Joseph Conrad, four authors who discuss the Malay Archipelago during the rise and consolidation of the British Empire. These works offer some of the most explicit and sophisticated discussions of the world as a single, interconnected entity, inducting their readers into comprehensive and objective descriptions of the world. The perspective organizing these authors' conception of the global-the frame or code through which the world came into view-is indebted to the material and discursive possibilities set in motion by European conquest. The global, therefore, is not just a peculiar mode of thematization; it is aligned to a conception of historical development unique to European colonial capitalism. Krishnan troubles this dominant perspective. Drawing on the poststructuralist and postcolonial approaches of Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, and challenging the recent historiography of empire and economic histories of globalization, he elaborates a bold new approach to the humanities in the age of globalization.
