Book Confessions and Testimony of a Christian Prisoner

Download or read book Confessions and Testimony of a Christian Prisoner written by Ray Amato and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-04-19 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unknowingly to me, the writing of this book commenced decades ago while traveling my thirty-five state territories as a tractor trailer driver. Listening to volumes of the Bible on cassette tapes, I often felt compelled to pull over and write on various issues as they occurred to me. Across the years, I improved, but not until I became a serious reader did I develop my present style through the influence of various prolific authors: GK Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, John MacArthur, and others. This book is a collection of theological essays, poetry, and short stories, some of which are true stories of my road trips and life experiences. In a backsliding state, however, some old bad habits revisited, landing me in prison. As I entered my first jail cell, it was vacant except for a beautiful leather-bound NKJ version of the Bible and a copy of a Strong's Concise Concordance of the Bible still sealed in cellophane wrap. That, my friends, I needn't say but I will anyway is an unheard of incident in 10 million vacant jail cells. So now I had just what I would need to polish my previous work, the time, pardon the pun, and the equipment. For my familiarity with the Bible was exhaustive, but only on tape so the concordance was what I would need to find my way around. This was to me a sign from God clearer than words. In addition to reading and writing, I lead Bible study in county jail, and eventually in state prison I shared my work from the pulpit at our chapel. It was then that I felt lead to compose this book; however, it was the Holy Spirit's help and energy who made it happen. I pray that it produces the ends to which it is sent multiplying the faithful among men in Christ Jesus. Remember to pray for the men and women who have lost their way.

Book excerpt: No one was more surprised than Andrew Klavan when, at the age of fifty, he found himself about to be baptized. The Great Good Thing tells the soul-searching story of a man born into an age of disbelief who had to abandon everything he thought he knew in order to find his way to the truth. Best known for his hard-boiled, white-knuckle thrillers and for the movies made from them--among them True Crime and Don’t Say a Word--bestselling author and Edgar Award-winner Klavan was born in a suburban Jewish enclave outside New York City. He left the faith of his childhood behind to live most of his life as an agnostic until he found himself mulling over the hard questions that so many other believers have asked: How can I be certain in my faith? What's the truth, and how can I know it's the truth? How can you think, live, and make choices and judgments day by day if you don't know for sure? In The Great Good Thing, Klavan shares that his troubled childhood caused him to live inside the stories in his head and grow up to become an alienated young writer whose disconnection and rage devolved into depression and suicidal breakdown. In those years, Klavan fought to ignore the insistent call of God, a call glimpsed in a childhood Christmas at the home of a beloved babysitter, in a transcendent moment at his daughter's birth, and in a snippet of a baseball game broadcast that moved him from the brink of suicide. But more than anything, the call of God existed in stories--the stories Klavan loved to read and the stories he loved to write. Join Klavan as he discovers the meaning of belief, the importance of asking tough questions, and the power of sharing your story.

In the end, Bo realizes that God’s love is a gift, not something he must earn. But there’s more to the story: Just before Bo enters prison, his wife, Gari, becomes incapacitated by a brain illness and enters her own prison of clinical depression. Readers will see how the couple struggled together as their world fell apart, yet ultimately grew closer to each other and God behind the bars of their trials. This story will not only inspire and encourage readers, it will show them how they, too, can find spiritual freedom in life’s “prisons” if they choose to see God’s hand in their lives.

Book Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus

Download or read book Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus written by Paul Roussel and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-11-06 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus explains the challenges that ex-offenders face as they reenter society. The central theme of the book highlights how a personal saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only path to successfully transition out of prison. Christian Aftercare Ministries (CAM) provides the spiritual and physical support as well as accountability to help men and women successfully reenter society. Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus describes the key steps that puts the ex-offender on a path to a positive Christian life after prison. CAM and its support network help and encourage clients to find a good job and safe housing, as well as connect with a Bible-believing church where they live. Attending Bible studies with supportive Christian leaders is also critical. A number of prison chaplains, local pastors, and laypeople volunteer both in prisons and on the outside to provide these opportunities. CAM's strategy is to have each client know and experience a strong Christian support structure surrounding them. Relying on Jesus and their faith is at the foundation of their success. Ex-offenders face many challenges on the outside. Falling into old habits and old relationships can sometimes put them right back in prison. Breaking out of that cycle through their faith in Jesus and the support of ministries like CAM is possible, as the many success stories highlighted in the book illustrate. CAM also desires young people to see that serving Jesus in prison ministry is one of the greatest blessings and to get involved in sharing the Gospel in prisons and jails and through aftercare ministries like CAM.

Book The Letter from Prison

Download or read book The Letter from Prison written by W. Clark Gilpin and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2024-06-24 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letters from prison testifying to deeply felt ethical principles have a long history, extending from antiquity to the present day. In the early modern era, the rise of printing houses helped turn these letters into a powerful form of political and religious resistance. W. Clark Gilpin’s fascinating book examines how letter writers in England—ranging from archbishops to Quaker women—consolidated the prison letter as a literary form. Drawing from a large collection of printed prison letters written from the reign of Henry VIII to the closing decades of the seventeenth century, Gilpin explores the genre's many facets within evolving contexts of reformation and revolution. The writers of these letters portrayed the prisoner of conscience as a distinct persona and the prison as a place of redemptive suffering where bearing witness had the power to change society. The Letter from Prison features a diverse cast of characters and a literary genre that combines drama and inspiration. It is sure to appeal to those interested in early modern England, prison literature, and cultural forms of resistance.
