Book Farmer s Handbook on Concrete Construction Classic Reprint

Download or read book Farmer s Handbook on Concrete Construction Classic Reprint written by Portland Cement Association and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farmer's Handbook on Concrete Construction The fact that concrete 1s a plastic material and is easily cast in any required shape makes it especially adapted to farm structures. If properly made it will last forever. Its durable qualities are such that it means the elimination of cost for repairs and renewals. It is a dense and impervious substance affording no harbor for rats, vermin, and other destructive agencies. With the exception of the Portland cement, the necessary materials are usually found upon the farm. For the reasons stated, concrete makes strong appeal to the farmer. The actual money saved in repairs and reconstruction will soon offset any excess cost over other materials. It is often the case, however, that concrete structures cost no more than buildings of other materials, and often less. The farmer can ordinarily do the work with the assistance of his farm hands, making it unnecessary to hire an expert carpenter or mason. Great economy is achieved in this way. Perhaps the greatest benefit to be derived from concrete con struction is the elimination of fire risk. This is of vital importance to the farmer, who is usually too far from a town to permit of any real protection from fire. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Use Cement for Concrete Construction for Town and Farm: Including Formulas, Drawing and Specific Instruction to Enable the Reader to Construct Farm and Town Equipment; An Ideal Book for Agricultural Schools The author desires to mention here that in addition 'to claiming some special knowledge [on the many and varied uses of concrete, he also was raised on a farm and operates one at the present time. For that reason, pursuit of the engineering profession has never made him lose sight of a farmer's view point and needs, and in his own farming practice he has had many opportunities to prove the economy of concrete first and last. Also, long association with the Portland Cement Associa tion in the preparation of its many informative booklets on concrete has favored him with access-to material which other wise would not have been available to make this book as com prehensive and practical as it is felt has been done through this fortunate connection. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Concrete Construction for Rural Communities During the Middle Ages the use of concrete was continued to some extent, but no great advance was made. In the eighteenth century it was discovered that the clay contained in certain limes conferred on them the property of setting, or hardening, under water, and the process of making natural cement was developed. In the last century the use of concrete was greatly stimulated by the invention of Portland cement, by the discovery of de posits of rock suitable for making natural cement, and by the development of machinery which made it possible to produce these cements cheaply. Book Concrete Construction on the Live Stock Farm

Download or read book Concrete Construction on the Live Stock Farm written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Concrete Construction on the Live-Stock Farm: Prepared Under the Direction of the Bureau of Animal Industry Some of the increased cost of living may be traced directly to the decreased producing power of the farm lands. This condition has been largely brought about by delivering the harvested crop direct to the market and returning nothing to the fields. The problem of restoring the soil to its former fertility, together with the advanced price of meats, makes it highly profitable for every farmer to raise a certain amount of live stock. The manure thus produced, prop erly cared for and distributed, returns to the cultivated land a large part of the fertility which the crop of grain removed. From the sale of his live stock the farmer realizes a direct profit on his grain consumed, and also, through the use of the manure, increases the fertility of his fields. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Concrete for the Farmer For many years the farmer's chief building material has been wood. At one time it was plentiful and therefore an economical material to use. Book Concrete on the Farm and in the Shop

Download or read book Concrete on the Farm and in the Shop written by Henry Colin Campbell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Concrete on the Farm and in the Shop: A Complete Practical Treatise on the Commonest Every-Day Uses of Concrete Within recent years there has been increas ing attention given to the use of concrete as a building material. Nowhere has this interest been relatively greater than on the farm. The appeal of concrete is due largely to the fact that care and faithful observance of fundamental principles enable a large portion of the actual labor to be performed by those who are relatively unskilled. The increasing cost of lumber has made concrete not only a formidable competitor but successful rival. Not only is this true but those who have once used concrete have come to a realization that in the concrete structure expensive upkeep is eliminated. There is no longer the continual an nual outlay for repairing, painting, straightening up, and rebuilding or patching the work to put it into condition equal to new, or to maintain it in serviceable condition. Book Farm Concrete Classic Reprint

Download or read book Farm Concrete Classic Reprint written by K. J. T. Ekblaw and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-25 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Concrete The importance of the correct use of concrete as a build ing material can scarcely be sufficiently emphasized, no matter into what particular type of structure the material enters. The cost of good concrete, in labor and materials, is practically no more than that of poor concrete. It is a fact, however, that a great amount of unsuccessful work in concrete results from the non-observance of simple fundamental rules. In the preparation of this manual on farm concrete, the writer has endeavored to treat this particular phase of the subject in a simple, non-technical, and at the same time, a reasonably comprehensive manner, so that a study of it will lead to a clear understanding of actual requirements for successful work.
